CM Orders Gadchiroli Airport Survey, Pushes For Timely Land Acquisition
Nagpur: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday ordered an immediate obstacle limitation surface (OLS) survey for the proposed Gadchiroli airport, directing the district collector to submit a detailed proposal. The instruction came during a high-level review meeting on land acquisition for major infrastructure projects, held in Mumbai. Fadnavis further instructed the runway at Akola Airport to be extended to 2,400m apart from envisioning a modern, large-scale terminal for the city. He emphasised the need for comprehensive planning for air connectivity in Kolhapur, Karad, Akola, Gadchiroli, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Stressing the need for strict adherence to timelines, Fadnavis said, "No project should stall due to land acquisition delays. All agencies must work in mission mode with quality and structured coordination." He cautioned that delays lead to steep cost escalations and insisted that each agency follow the pre-defined schedule meticulously. Fadnavis further instructed that the Virar-Alibaug corridor's Morbe-Karanja section, which passes through mangrove and forest zones, should begin its approval processes immediately, and that administrative clearances should proceed simultaneously to save time. He also asked the finance department to allocate Rs12,000 crore for land acquisition of the Shaktipeeth Expressway. Other directives included submission of a proposal to integrate the Wadhwan-Igatpuri expressway under the Sagarmala scheme, and completion of the Selu land acquisition in Parbhani district for the Jalna-Nanded expressway within 15 days. Fadnavis stresses need for timely land acquisition to keep key infra projects on track
Mumbai, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday directed officials to complete land acquisition for important infrastructure projects within the prescribed timelines to avoid delays in execution and cost escalation. Highlighting the scale of the work ahead, Fadnavis said ₹53,354 crore would be needed to acquire land for 11 ambitious state projects. The CM also directed the finance department to allocate ₹12,000 crore required in connection with land acquisition for the proposed Shaktipeeth Expressway, his office said in a statement. 'Delays in projects lead to major cost escalations. All agencies concerned have been assigned specific timelines, and strict adherence to these is necessary. The land acquisition process must be treated with seriousness and executed in mission mode,' the CM said. Earlier in the day, he chaired a high-level meeting to review the progress in land acquisition for several major projects, including the Nagpur-Goa Shaktipeeth Expressway and Pune Ring Road, said the statement. Fadnavis said the alignment of the proposed Shaktipeeth Expressway should be finalised using the Gati Shakti portal to minimise the impact on forest land. He also directed the finance department to allocate ₹12,000 crore required to acquire land for the expressway. He stressed the need to fast-track clearances concerning forested areas and mangrove patches between Morbe and Karanja for the proposed Virar-Alibaug corridor, while simultaneously proceeding with administrative processes to keep the project on track. He also called for submission of a proposal to include the Vadhavan-Igatpuri Expressway project under the Centre's Sagarmala scheme, and completion of land acquisition at Selu in Parbhani district for the Jalna-Nanded Expressway within 15 days, the statement said. Blueprints for the Bhandara-Gadchiroli, Nagpur-Chandrapur, and Nagpur-Gondia expressways should also be finalised through the Gati Shakti portal, he said. He also directed officials to complete land acquisition for the Wardha-Gadchiroli and Wardha-Nanded rail lines within the prescribed time. Fadnavis directed that the Obstacle Limitation Surface survey be completed for the proposed Gadchiroli airport. The runway at Akola airport should be extended to 2,400 metres to accommodate larger aircraft, and a modern and spacious terminal should be constructed there, he added.

India's largest auto cargo terminal inaugurated at Maruti Suzuki's Manesar plant
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Tuesday inaugurated the country's largest automobile Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal at Maruti Suzuki India Ltd.'s manufacturing facility in Manesar, Haryana. The terminal marks a major milestone under the government's Gati Shakti initiative aimed at boosting integrated and efficient logistics infrastructure. Connected to Patli railway station through a dedicated 10-km rail link, the terminal forms part of the 121.7-km-long Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor being developed by the Haryana Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (HRIDC). The project has been built at a total cost of ₹800 crore, with HRIDC contributing ₹684 crore and Maruti Suzuki funding the remainder. With a vehicle loading capacity of 4.5 lakh units per year, the Manesar terminal now holds the distinction of being India's highest-capacity automobile cargo terminal . Speaking at the launch, Minister Vaishnaw highlighted the transformation in Indian Railways over the past decade. 'Before 2014, the annual railway budget was around ₹25,000 crore. Today, it stands at ₹2.5 lakh crore,' he said, adding that over 1,200 general coaches were added in the last year alone. The minister announced plans to upgrade over 100 MEMU (Mainline Electric Multiple Unit) trains to 16–20 coaches to cater to rising short-distance passenger demand. A new MEMU manufacturing facility has also been commissioned in Kazipet, Andhra Pradesh. Vaishnaw shared Indian Railways' impressive performance in FY 2023–24, transporting 720 crore passengers and 1,617 million tonnes of freight—making India the second-largest freight rail network in the world. In a significant change for passengers, the minister announced that from July 1, Tatkal ticket bookings during the first 30 minutes of the window will be restricted to Aadhaar-authenticated and KYC-verified users. Other ongoing reforms include a pilot project in Bikaner Division where reservation charts are prepared 24 hours in advance, compared to the current four-hour window. Vaishnaw also spoke about expanding rail services, noting that three Amrit Bharat trains are operational, with six more to be launched soon. Production of 50 additional trains is underway. Focusing on Haryana's rail infrastructure development, he said the state's railway budget allocation has increased from ₹300 crore in 2014 to ₹3,416 crore in 2024. 'In the last 11 years, 823 km of new rail lines have been built and 100% of Haryana's railway network has been electrified,' he noted. Currently, infrastructure projects worth ₹11,800 crore are being executed in the state, including redevelopment of 34 stations and construction of 540 road overbridges and underpasses. India's largest automobile cargo terminal inaugurated at Maruti Suzuki's Manesar plant
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Tuesday inaugurated the country's largest automobile Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal at Maruti Suzuki India Ltd.'s plant in Manesar, Haryana . The terminal, developed under the Gati Shakti initiative, is connected to the Patli railway station through a dedicated 10-km rail link. The link is part of the 121.7 km-long Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor being built by the Haryana Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (HRIDC). The project cost ₹800 crore, with HRIDC contributing ₹684 crore and the remainder funded by Maruti Suzuki. The terminal has a loading capacity of 4.5 lakh vehicles per year, making it the highest among all automobile cargo terminals in India. Speaking at the event, Vaishnaw said the Indian Railways has undergone a major transformation in the past decade. 'Before 2014, the Railways' annual budget was around ₹25,000 crore. Today, it stands at ₹2.5 lakh crore. In the last one year alone, over 1,200 general coaches have been added,' he said. He announced that more than 100 MEMU trains will be upgraded to 16–20 coaches to meet rising demand from short-distance commuters. A new manufacturing facility for MEMU trains has also been set up in Kazipet, Andhra Pradesh. Need to reassess disaster mgmt systems: PK Mishra
NEW DELHI: PM's principal secretary PK Mishra Tuesday cautioned disaster management officials about growing challenges from extreme weather events and uncertainties, & asked states to recalibrate their institutions, and systems to handle such situations better and prevent loss of life and property. Speaking at the valedictory session of a two-day meeting of relief commissioners and national and state disaster response officials, Mishra said preparedness and awareness are crucial for tackling increasing uncertainty over natural disasters. "The hazard and vulnerability landscape is changing, so preparedness level of states has to be enhanced," he said. "States must focus on solutions that are low on costs but have a high impact, to mitigate disaster risks. For instance, urban flooding solutions need to keep in mind the local geographical and climatic conditions," he said. He stressed the need to involve communities to enhance the effectiveness of disaster response and reduce loss of lives and property. He urged officials to use data from Gati Shakti platform while making disaster management plans for states.
