Running... well, it's one of those things in life that brings tremendous benefits to your body, yet not everyone enjoys doing it. Of course, some enthusiasts simply love to run. Even more astonishing is that many people participate in marathons and spend countless hours training for these events. Whether you're a seasoned runner or someone who runs just to train your cardiovascular system, boost your metabolism, and burn a few calories, getting a running smartwatch is actually a pretty smart move. In addition to the usual features like heart rate monitoring and stress tracking, these wearables also include tools designed to help you run more effectively $131 off (33%) The 46mm Garmin Forerunner 255 Music in white is now priced at just under $270, with a $131 discount. Buy at Amazon For instance, the Garmin Forerunner 255 Music can keep track of your running intensity, making it easier to fine-tune your performance and adjust your training when needed. In addition, it has a Body Battery feature that monitors your energy levels throughout the day, helping you decide when to train hard and when to rest and recover. It also comes with Garmin's Coach functionality, providing you with personalized training plans. A running smartwatch must also be reliable, which is why this bad boy may not come with a touchscreen but offers up to 14 days of battery life in smartwatch mode on a single charge. And with it being the Music edition, it lets you store up to 500 songs from Spotify and Amazon Music. So, just pair your favorite headphones, and you're all here's the kicker! A third-party seller on Amazon has the White version of the 46mm model marked down by 33%, bringing the cost to just under $270. That means you'll save $131, which is a fantastic deal considering the watch's usual price of about $400. We don't know how long this offer will last, though. Garmin Announces the Forerunner 570 and 970 Running Smartwatches: Should You Upgrade?

Serious runners looking to upgrade their smartwatch now have two new Garmin Forerunner options in the form of the 570 and 970. Forerunner is Garmin's line of running and triathlon training watches. The new versions pack the brightest display from Garmin yet, plus add new training tools, recovery insights and connected features. Garmin is competing in a field that includes the Apple Watch and Apple Watch Ultra, which is Apple's adventurer-aimed version of its regular smartwatch. Garmin is perhaps best known for its in-car GPS systems, but has branched out into smartwatches aimed at athletes. CNET maintains a roundup of the best Garmin deals around. We also have a recent roundup of Apple watch rumors. New Forerunners feature a variety of colors The Forerunner 570 comes in two sizes and numerous colors. Garmin 570 is the cheaper of the two The 570 is available in both 42mm and 47mm cases, and each size has two exclusive color options in addition to the slate gray aluminum and black band options. The 970 ships in only a 47mm case, meaning you can only go big or go 570. Available in three colors that look good but are slightly less fun than its smaller sibling's options, the 970 is for the serious athlete that just won't quit or those who just want the best that Garmin has to offer. New for both watches is a brighter 1.4-inch AMOLED display, with optional always-on mode. Opting for this will likely reduce battery life, but given that the 570 has an 11-day battery life, and the 970 can squeak out 15 days, you likely won't be reaching for a charger nearly as much as with other smartwatches. Both watches feature the Garmin Triathlon Coach trainer, offering adaptive daily plans of personalized workouts based on your performance and health metrics. Users can create multisport workouts from the Garmin Connect app and send them to the watch to track stats when you switch to another sport during training. 970 extras: Flashlight, titanium bezel The Forerunner 970 includes a set of expected exclusive features, including a scratch-resistant sapphire lens and titanium bezel. The 970 also ships with a built-in LED flashlight, and offers on-screen controls to dial down the brightness. Additional features include running tolerance, step-speed loss, and support for ECG measurements in the app, though the latters' availability varies by region. Pricing and availability Both the Forerunner 570 and 970 will be available to order starting May 21. Both the Forerunner 570 42mm and the Forerunner 570 47mm are priced at $550, while the Forerunner 970 costs $750.

Garmin officially rolls out the feature-packed Forerunner 570 smartwatch at a reasonable price

Unveiled alongside the higher-end and costlier Forerunner 970, this athlete and triathlete-friendly mid-ranger of sorts is priced at $549.99, which doesn't exactly qualify the 570 as an ultra-affordable timepiece, but it certainly beats the $749.99 MSRP of the more premium aforementioned model. 42mm and 47mm case sizes; 1.2-inch AMOLED touchscreen with 390 x 390 pixel resolution (42mm variant); 1.4-inch AMOLED display with 454 x 454 pixel resolution (47mm size); 42.4 x 42.4 x 12.9mm dimensions (42mm variant); 47 x 47 x 12.9mm dimensions (47mm size); 42 grams weight (42mm variant); 50 grams weight (47mm size); Up to 10 days of battery life (42mm variant); Up to 11 days of battery life (47mm size); Aluminum bezel; Corning Gorilla Glass 3 lens; Silicone strap; Multi-band GPS and SatIQ technology; 8GB internal storage; 5 ATM water resistance; Built-in speaker and microphone; Heart rate monitor; Heart rate variability; Blood oxygen sensor; Sleep score and insights; Nap detection; Body Battery energy monitor; All-day stress tracking; Skin temperature; Garmin Pay; Barometric altimeter, compass, gyroscope, ambient light sensor; Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity; Morning Report and Evening Report; Garmin Coach, Garmin Running Coach, Garmin Cycling Coach, Garmin Triathlon Coach; Multisport workouts; Incident detection; VO2 Max, Training Load, Training Effect; Running Dynamics, Running Power, Grade-Adjusted Pace, Race Predictor; Android and iPhone support. At first glance, the Garmin Forerunner 570 covers all the health monitoring and sports tracking bases... and then some. Also at first glance, not much appears to differentiate the Forerunner 970 from its cheaper "cousin." At a closer look, however, you'll probably notice that the lengthy list of features and capabilities above lacks a potentially life-saving ECG sensor. And an occasionally handy built-in LED flashlight. The 570's build is also a little less impressive, with an aluminum instead of a rugged titanium bezel and Gorilla Glass 3 display protection rather than sapphire. Still, this is by no means a fragile or ugly wearable, and the two case sizes actually give the Forerunner 570 an important flexibility advantage over the 970. Leaving all comparisons aside, we're definitely looking at a remarkably feature-packed running smartwatch capable of keeping an eye on every little aspect of your marathon preparation (as well as the marathon itself) while rocking what Garmin calls its "brightest display yet"... without elaborating on the brightness figures. Aaaand we're back to comparing the new product with an existing one... designed for a different target audience. But be honest, this is one of the first questions you ask yourselves whenever Garmin, Samsung, Google, or OnePlus add a new device to the Apple-dominated industry. Today's answer (as so many times in the past) is complicated, with that 11-day battery life promise, for instance, making the Garmin Forerunner 570 look like not just an Apple Watch killer, but one of the best smartwatches you can buy right now period. Granted, the Forerunner 970 can guarantee even longer running times between charges, but 11 days (or 10 days on the smaller model) is nothing to sneeze at either. Another detail many prospective Forerunner 570 buyers will probably appreciate is the variety and atypical flashiness of the colors the new Garmin mid-ranger is available in. We're not just talking bland slate gray/black combinations, but also raspberry-and-mango or amp yellow-translucent whitestone-and-turquoise models. That's a pretty unusual splash of style for a fitness-focused Garmin smartwatch, and together with all the powerful health monitoring tools, stellar battery life, and beautiful AMOLED display, it could well make the Forerunner 570 a formidable opponent for the Apple Watch Series 10, not to mention the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra.

Best Garmin Watches 2025: Top picks for every adventurer

Best for: Grappling with the whole sport gamut. Including grappling… The Garmin Forerunner comes in, at last count, over 80 different iterations, catering to all comers from the low-level user with shallow pockets in their Lycra leggings, right up to those with no need for pockets at all because they keep all cash digitalised and ready to be accessed over Garmin Pay. And it's in this latter camp that the latest Forerunner, the 965, lingers, waiting to be let off the leash. At a relatively small 35.4mm (1.4-inches) in size, the 965 features a clear, bright AMOLED display with a 454 x 454-pixel count, a whopping 32GB of memory, and a big ol' battery that'll see you good to go for up to 23 days, dependent on usage, obviously. Built from titanium for strength and lightness, Corning Gorilla Glass DX takes good care of the display, while the bundled silicone strap will fit all but the most elephantine of wrist sizes (135-205mm) and the colour options run from the subtle to the, well, not so. Inside, meanwhile, is an exercise-obsessed Aladdin's Cave of cutting-edge tech, including an absolute array of sensors for pinpoint GPS tracking and monitoring of your heart rate, respiration rate, stress and blood oxygen saturation, alongside a barometric altimeter, gyroscope, compass, thermometer, accelerometer and ambient light sensor. These all work in glorious union to unerringly measure your metrics and track every step, swing, stroke of any of the seemingly endless number of sports it can cover, whether that's a triathlon, indoor rowing, cycling, swimming, motocross, ice skating, martial arts, or cricket. In fact, the only sport it appears not to work with is Octopush, but I may have simply missed that in the option settings. Naturally, all the usual suspects relevant to all those exercise options are present and correct, too, such as step counter, calories burned, swim speed, distance travelled, reps achieved, etc., tracking and recording every inch you travel on your journey to Olympian-like status. With various safety features also in place, such as Incident Detection and Group Live Track available to keep an eye on you in case anything goes Pete Tong while you're out pushing your boundaries in the wild, you can run, ride and race secure in the knowledge that a snapped ankle or bad fall won't see you simply become another victim of Britain's bear population. And as this is king of the Forerunners, it also comes rammed to the rafters with day-today dynamics, like Bluetooth for connectivity with your Android or iOS smartphone, thereby allowing for notifications, text response, call rejection (Android only), calendar access, smartphone/memory-based music control, Vibe camera remote, and more besides. A truly great watch for those keen to achieve their own greatness, the Forerunner 965 is all things to all athletes.
