Chhattisgarh DSP's Wife Hosts Birthday Bash On Official Car, Gets FIR As Return Gift

Last Updated: The video flared public outrage and led to an FIR being registered against the car's driver. A video from Chhattisgarh's Balrampur district showing the wife of a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) celebrating her birthday on the bonnet of a vehicle with a blue beacon went viral on social media. The clip triggered public outrage and resulted in an FIR being filed against the car's driver. The FIR did not name the individual behind the wheel. The vehicle was reportedly driven by a woman who appeared to be part of the friend group present during the celebration. The viral video has stirred controversy in Chhattisgarh, showing the wife of a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) celebrating her birthday in a highly unsafe manner. The footage captures her sitting on the bonnet of an XUV 700, reportedly the DSP's vehicle, which is fitted with a blue beacon. यातायात नियमों में माचिस मारकर रुतबे का केक काटा जा रहा है — Gagandeep Singh (@GagandeepNews) June 13, 2025 Several other women believed to be friends are seen dangerously leaning out of the car's doors and sunroof. The incident reportedly took place near a hotel in Ambikapur and has raised serious concerns about the misuse of official symbols and a disregard for public safety. In the clip, the DSP's wife is seen cutting a birthday cake placed on the bonnet, while others cheer around her. According to the Times of India, the Congress party in Chhattisgarh quickly slammed the incident, calling it a clear example of irresponsible behaviour linked to those in positions of power. Following the viral spread of the video, the Saragwan police reportedly launched an investigation and confirmed that the incident took place near a hotel in Ambikapur, Chhattisgarh. As per the Times of India, an FIR was filed against the driver of the vehicle for breaching traffic laws under multiple sections of the Motor Vehicles Act, including Sections 177, 184, and 281. These sections carry different penalties: Section 177 involves a fine of Rs 500 for minor rule violations; Section 184 allows for either a Rs 1,000 fine or up to one year of jail time for reckless driving; and Section 281 provides for a fine of Rs 1,000 or up to six months in jail for endangering public safety. Meanwhile, the police have stated that appropriate action will be taken based on the nature of the violations captured in the video.
