Delhi AQI improves to 140; CAQM lifts GRAP Stage-I restrictions across NCR
New Delhi: With Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) improving to 140 on 15 June, 2025, the Commission for Air Quality Management ( CAQM ) revoked Stage-I restrictions of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) across the National Capital Region (NCR) with immediate effect. According to the Central Pollution Control Board's (CPCB) daily bulletin, the AQI recorded for June 15 stands at 140, placing it in the 'Moderate' category. The Sub-Committee on GRAP of CAQM, which reviewed the air quality and meteorological forecasts from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), unanimously decided to withdraw Stage-I measures. 'Keeping in view this trend of improvement in the AQI of Delhi and also the forecasts by IMD/ IITM predicting the average air quality of Delhi to stay in 'Moderate' category in the coming days, the CAQM Sub-Committee on GRAP unanimously decided to revoke Stage-I of the extant schedule of GRAP in the entire NCR, with immediate effect,' CAQM said. GRAP Stage-I was enforced on June 7, 2025, in the entire NCR in view of deteriorating air quality. However, the panel noted that due to favourable meteorological conditions, Delhi's AQI has remained consistently in the moderate range, with forecasts suggesting similar trends in the coming days. All concerned agencies of State Governments and the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) have been instructed to ensure continued implementation of directions and advisories issued by CAQM, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), CPCB and the respective State Pollution Control Boards/DPCC. The Commission emphasised the importance of sustaining current air quality levels and avoiding any deterioration to the 'Poor' category. Agencies were also reminded to comply with all timelines outlined in CAQM's comprehensive air pollution control policy, particularly on dust mitigation and other sectoral actions. The Sub-Committee stated that it will continue to monitor the air quality in Delhi and surrounding areas and will review the situation based on future forecasts by IMD and IITM for any necessary action.

New Delhi [India], June 15 (ANI): As the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi was recorded at 140 on Sunday, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) revoked the already enforced Stage-I of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in the National Capital Region (NCR) with immediate effect. This comes as the national capital records an AQI of 140, which is still considered 'unhealthy for sensitive groups' but escapes the 'Poor' category. The Sub-Committee on GRAP, in its meeting today, further reviewed the air quality scenario in the region, as well as the forecasts by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the air quality index of Delhi. 'AQI of Delhi has shown consistent improvement due to favorable meteorological conditions and the AQI of Delhi has been recorded as 140 for June 15, 2025, (in 'Moderate' category). Further, the forecast by IMD/IITM also predicts AQI to mainly remain in 'Moderate' category in coming days,' the order issued by the CAQM read. Accordingly, the sub-committee decided to revoke its order, which invoked actions under Stage-I ('Poor' Air Quality) of the extant GRAP in the entire NCR, with immediate effect. 'All the agencies of the concerned State Govts./GNCTD in the NCR, in an effort to sustain the better AQI levels as being experienced currently and not to let the air quality slip to the 'Poor' category, however need to ensure that all statutory directions, advisories, orders etc. issued by the Commission are followed and implemented in right earnest, including the rules/ regulations/ guidelines issued by MoEFCC and the Central Pollution Control Board and related instructions/ guidelines issued by the respective State Govts./GNCTD and Pollution Control Boards/DPCC, across all contributing sectors,' the order read. Earlier on June 7, the CAQM enforced Stage I of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in Delhi-NCR with immediate effect in view of the rising pollution, as the AQI reached 209. An AQI rating is categorised as follows: 0-50 (good), 51-100 (satisfactory), 101-200 (moderate), 201-300 (poor), 301-400 (very poor), and 401-500 (severe). (ANI)

Delhiites breathed cleaner air after showers on early Sunday with the Air Quality Index (AQI) touching 140, prompting the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) Sub-Committee on Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) to revoke actions under Stage-I. 'Today, Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) of the day clocked 140 as per the daily AQI Bulletin provided by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB),' said Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change in a statement. While comprehensively reviewing the overall air quality parameters in the region and other aspects, the Sub-Committee said, 'AQI of Delhi has shown consistent improvement due to favourable meteorological conditions and the AQI of Delhi has been recorded as 140 for June 15 (in 'Moderate' category). Further, the forecast by IMD/IITM also predicts AQI to mainly remain in 'Moderate' category in coming days.' 'Therefore, keeping in view this trend of improvement in the AQI of Delhi and also the forecasts by IMD/ IITM predicting the average air quality of Delhi to stay in 'Moderate' category in the coming days (for which forecast is available), the CAQM Sub-Committee on GRAP unanimously decided to revoke Stage-I of the extant schedule of GRAP in the entire NCR, with immediate effect,' the statement said. It was also stressed that all the agencies of the state governments/GNCTD in the NCR, need to ensure that all statutory directions, advisories and orders issued by the Commission are followed and implemented in right earnest to prevent the air quality from slipping to the 'Poor' category. The sub-committee said that all the agencies concerned are also required to take note of various actions and the targeted timelines as envisaged in the comprehensive policy issued by the Commission to curb air pollution in the NCR and take appropriate actions accordingly in the field, particularly the dust mitigation measures, the statement said. 'The Sub-Committee, shall be keeping a close watch on the air quality scenario and review the situation from time to time for further appropriate decision depending upon the air quality in Delhi and forecast made available by IMD/ IITM,' it said.

3 agencies to work to curb road dust in Delhi-NCR, focus on paving, greening
In a significant step towards reducing dust pollution in the Delhi-NCR region, three key agencies will now work together under a structured framework for the redevelopment of urban Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the CSIR-Central Road Research Institute (CSIR-CRRI) and the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA), New Delhi, to jointly implement a Standard Framework aimed at curbing road dust agreement outlines a comprehensive redevelopment strategy that prioritises paving and greening of footpaths and sidewalks to address the persistent issue of dust pollution. As part of this collaboration, a Project Monitoring Cell (PMC) will be set up at CAQM, with both CSIR-CRRI and SPA providing technical and institutional support. The PMC will coordinate and oversee the phased rollout of the framework across NCR states, ensuring adherence to the detailed redevelopment initial phase of implementation will focus on nine major urban and industrial centres in the NCR: Delhi, Faridabad, Gurugram, Sonipat, Ghaziabad, Noida, Greater Noida, Bhiwadi and Neemrana. The framework will benefit from CSIR-CRRI's expertise in road engineering, standardisation and asset management, combined with SPA's proficiency in sustainable urban planning and green redevelopment model includes specific features such as designing road cross-sections based on road type and Right of Way (ROW) width, incorporating greening measures within the ROW to suppress dust, and deploying a Web-GIS-based Road Asset Management System (RAMS) to ensure efficient maintenance. It also advocates the use of innovative technologies in road construction and upkeep to further control dust and SPA will guide the PMC in manpower planning and provide technical supervision throughout the redevelopment process. A dedicated dashboard is also being developed to enable real-time, data-driven monitoring and assessment of progress across project move comes shortly after CAQM enforced Stage I of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP-I) in Delhi-NCR and neighbouring regions, following a deterioration in air quality. The decision was made after a meeting of the GRAP subcommittee last Saturday, which reviewed air quality trends, weather forecasts and the Air Quality Index (AQI) of Delhi. The introduction of GRAP-I marks the beginning of stricter anti-pollution measures during the smog-prone latest redevelopment initiative is expected to complement GRAP actions by addressing one of the major contributors to Delhi-NCR's air pollution: dust from unpaved roads and poorly maintained urban surfaces.
