Police continue their crackdown in 2 areas of Bolton to reduce number of crashes

The crackdown on anti-social driving in two accident hotspots continued today. Bolton police have in recent months been focusing on the Deane area, where there have been a number of serious crashes. And they urged residents who have concerns in other areas to get in touch. Today, officers with the Rumworth and Hulton Neighbourhood Team today focused on Deane Road and Hulton Lane. (Image: GMP Bolton) A spokesman for the neighbourhood team said: "Officers have targeted hotspots for Anti-Social Driving this morning that had been highlighted by local residents. "Motorists were monitored on both Deane Road and Hulton Lane, where numerous vehicles were stopped and a total of seven Traffic Offence Reports were issued for various driving offences. "If residents have other area of note, please could they be raised with your local neighbourhood team for future planning." Deane and Daubhill as a whole, are the focus of a police operation to reduce road traffic collisions. Six speed cameras have been installed in several "hotspots" in Bolton including Hulton Lane. According to the authorities, like a typical speed camera, these speed cameras report information including the registration of a vehicle and the speed of a vehicle if it is over the legal limit. However, unlike a typical speed camera, these speed cameras report the information to Greater Manchester Police (GMP) for the purposes of education not for the purposes of enforcement. Recently, The Bolton News reported how police are targeting Bolton drivers who believe they can get away with speeding - with a specific focus on Deane Road. Officers believe that some drivers, despite facing appropriate punishments think that they will not be caught. Now those drivers can expect a letter through the post or a knock on the door to make them understand the potential serious, and in cases fatal, consequences of speeding. The move is part of a police operation to reduce casualties on Bolton's roads, particularly Deane Road, by targeting and reducing repeat speeders in the area. And Operation Classify has so far achieved a '75 per cent reduction' in speeding. Using information from speed cameras to identify specific information about speeding vehicles in the area, contact was made in person or by a bespoke letter to the registered keepers to warn them of the dangers of speeding.
