2 Kapuso schools in Benguet receive 148 recycled chairs from GMA Kapuso Foundation sponsor
Two Kapuso schools in Benguet received a total of 148 recycled chairs from GMA Kapuso Foundation and Gardenia Bakeries Philippines through the Kapuso ng Kalikasan Project. According to "24 Oras" on Wednesday, the Kapuso schools that benefitted through the project are Dagadag Elementary School in Mankayan and Cotcot-Talabis Elementary School in Buguias. Per the report, the World Bank considered the Philippines a "sachet economy" due to Filipinos' wide use of plastic sachets. Citing data from 2019, the report said it is estimated that the Philippines consumes 163 million sachets every day. Through the Kapuso ng Kalikasan Project, single-use plastic waste was recycled into school chairs for the benefit of the students. "Itong single use plastic na ito, dinadala sa mga planta kung saan nililinis, tinutunaw, at ginagawang mga silya. Mas matibay na, mas nakatulong pa tayo sa ating mundo," said GMA Kapuso Foundation EVP & COO Rikki Escudero-Catibog. The Kapuso school in Dagadag Elementary School was built in 2024 and the recycled chairs come at a time when the school needs it the most, as more students are enrolling in the school. "Yearly na tumataaas 'yung enrollment mula noong 2022, sa 76 umabot sa 120. Itong upuan hindi po nadaragdagan," said Dagadag Elementary School teacher-in-charge Domondon Paydon En. Students from kindergarten to grade 3 were also given school supplies and bread through the project. A total of 148 recycled chairs were distributed to Dagadag Elementary School and Cotcot-Talabis Elementary School. GMA Kapuso Foundation is also set to distribute recycled chairs in the Kapuso schools being constructed in Rizal. Over 100 dads who work as trolley boys in Laguna receive gifts, medical services from GMA Kapuso Foundation
Over 100 fathers who work as trolley boys in Los Baños, Laguna received early gifts of essential medical services and support from GMA Kapuso Foundation. According to '24 Oras,' Friday, among those who make a livelihood by pedaling trolleys along train tracks is Jorge Dimaculangan, who has grown accustomed to the physical demands of the job so he could provide for his family. ''Pag naulan, dati maselan ang katawan ko eh. 'Pag ako ay nainitan, naambunan, hinahapo ako. Nung nagtagal nawala na rin, nasanay nang nasanay. Mga bata ko nga eh 'pag napasok, dito ko kinukuha ang pangbaon,' Jorge said. In celebration of Father's Day and observance of Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, GMA Kapuso Foundation provided free prostate-specific antigen tests, urinalysis, and medical consultations for the hardworking trolley boys. 100 dads in Negros Occidental get free medical services from GMA Kapuso Foundation ahead of Father's Day
A total of 100 fathers in Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental received free medical services from GMA Kapuso Foundation in observance of Father's Day and Prostate Cancer Awareness Month this June. According to "24 Oras" on Wednesday, among the beneficiaries of the initiative was Jasper Lapera, a pineapple farmer and a father of five kids. Jasper also raises pigs to supplement his income from farming, which only brings him P7,000 a year due to his modest plot of land. "May lima po akong anak at ang tatlo po dito ay nakapagtapos na. Sa ngayon meron pa akong dalawang anak na pinagsisikapan na makapagtapos ng kanilang pag-aaral," he said. GMA Kapuso Foundation offered free prostate-specific antigen tests, urinalysis, and medical consultations to 100 fathers in Don Salvador Benedicto with the help of the Doctors' Hospital Incorporated. "Males 40 years old and above should have their prostates screened for early detection so that the survival of prostate cancer patients [is] improved. This screening should be done yearly," said urologist Dr. Julian Salvador Vinco. Food and hygiene kits were also distributed to the beneficiaries. 3,000 students in Maguindanao del Norte receive school supplies from GMA Kapuso Foundation
Three thousand students in Maguindanao del Norte received school supplies from GMA Kapuso Foundation through its Unang Hakbang sa Kinabukasan project. According to a "24 Oras" report on Wednesday, among the beneficiaries of the project is Omaymah, a student from Datu Blah Sinsuat. Omaymah's parents Dadang and Maula Bandon accompany their child to school, as they have to cross a river to get there. "Sabi ko wala man kaming maibigay sa inyo na may pabaon, may pamana, kahit ito man lang pag-aaral masuportahan namin kayo. Tumatawid po kami kahit po malakas ang alon, malakas ang baha," said Dadang. Dadang works as a sweeper in a resort, while her husband Maula works as a fisherman and also sidelines as a carpenter. The couple is working extra hard because Omaymah is set to enter Grade 1. "Sa ngayon mahirap kasi kulang talaga ang isda, panahon ng walang isda. Mahirap ngayon tag-ulan malaki ang alon hindi ka makalaot," said Maula. Through the Unang Hakbang sa Kinabukasan project, GMA Kapuso Foundation was able to distribute complete school supplies to 3,000 kindergarten and Grade 1 students in Maguindanao del Norte. "Ito po ay napakalaking tulong po sa amin lalong-lalo na dito sa mga areas na hindi gaano kaswerte 'yung mga estudyante sa mga bagay, kaya malaking tulong po ang GMA Kapuso Foundation sa lugar," said First Lieutenant Sweet Faith F.
