Revanth ready to invite Naidu for talks on Telangana-Andhra water disputes

HYDERABAD: Asserting that his government does not rake up controversies but strives to address all issues, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Friday said that he was ready to invite his Andhra Pradesh counterpart N Chandrababu Naidu to initiate a dialogue on interstate water disputes, including the proposed Godavari-Banakacherla project, subject to Cabinet decision. During an informal chat with reporters in Delhi, the chief minister said that he would hold a Cabinet meeting on June 23 to discuss the possibilities of initiating a dialogue with Andhra Pradesh to protect the water rights of Telangana. He made it clear that his government prefers to maintain healthy relations with sibling state of Andhra Pradesh as it does with Karnataka. The CM also noted that Telangana's approval is a must in case there are any changes in the Polavaram project. He, however, said that the Andhra Pradesh state led by N Chandrababu Naidu should also support Telangana's irrigation project, stating that all the projects proposed on Godavari projects to utilise 968 tmc are still pending with the Centre. Objecting to the Centre acting just on the 'feasibility report', the CM said that it is unjustifiable to seek permission for the Godavari-Banakacherla (G-B) project without approvals from the Technical Committee, Committee of Group of Officers, and Apex Council, and that too without taking Telangana into confidence.

Revanth has less knowledge, more venom, alleges BRS MLA Harish Rao

HYDERABAD: A day after the state government held an all-party meeting on the Andhra Pradesh government's Godavari-Banakacherla project, BRS MLA T Harish Rao alleged that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy lacked knowledge on irrigation. Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, Harish said: 'Revanth Reddy has less knowledge and more venom when it comes to Telangana water projects.' 'Lies flowed like water at the meeting,' he said and added that the meeting tried to blame BRS president and former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for AP's proposed Godavari-Banakacherla (G-B) project. Stating that the all-party meeting was turned into a 'political platform', the former irrigation minister said that the chief minister 'neither knows the basics of the irrigation sector nor has any knowledge of the basins of various rivers'. 'Revanth Reddy was seen asking the officials in which river basins Devadula and Banakacherla were located. It shows his lack of knowledge. Even schoolchildren know that Devadula was constructed across the Godavari,' he added. Harish alleged that the way Revanth spoke at the meeting indicated that he was giving a green signal to the G-B project. 'That's why the CM said that they would be satisfied with 1,000 tmcft in Godavari and 500 tmcft in Krishna,' he alleged.

Centre to call Telangana, Andhra CMs' meet on Godavari-Banakacherla project: Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil

HYDERABAD: Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil assured a Telangana delegation led by CM A Revanth Reddy that a meeting of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Chief Ministers would soon be held to discuss the proposed Godavari-Banakacherla project. The Union Minister assured that justice would be done to Telangana irrigation projects. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, along with Telangana Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy, called on CR Patil in Delhi on Thursday and had a one-hour detailed discussion over the AP's G-B project. Speaking to reporters later, Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the State government would also take a legal recourse against the AP's project, if necessary. Uttam Kumar contended that the Centre was according permissions only to AP projects, whereas several projects of Telangana were pending. He sought funds from the Centre for Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation and other projects of Telangana.

Telangana to convene all-party meeting on June 18 over controversial Godavari-Banakacherla project

HYDERABAD: The Telangana government has announced a crucial meeting to be held on June 18, 2025 at the Secretariat, inviting all Members of Parliament (both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha) to discuss the proposed Godavari-Banakacherla (G-B) project put forward by the Andhra Pradesh government. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will attend the meeting. Union Ministers G. Kishan Reddy, who also serves as the BJP state president, and Bandi Sanjay Kumar have also been extended invitations to contribute their views. In a statement issued on Tuesday, Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said Andhra Pradesh had submitted its proposal for the G-B project to the Ministries of Jal Shakti and Finance. 'According to a preliminary study, the project appears to violate both the Godavari Water Dispute Tribunal (GWDT) award of 1980 and the provisions of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act (APRA), 2014. The project, if implemented, would adversely impact the water rights of Telangana,' he reiterated. The Minister further recalled that he had written to the Union Ministers of Finance and Jal Shakti on January 22, 2025, outlining Telangana's objections. Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil, in his response dated May 28, 2025, assured that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the G-B link scheme had not yet been submitted to the Central government. He added that once received, the project would be reviewed in accordance with existing tribunal awards, inter-state agreements, and APRA provisions.

Centre hasn't taken any decision yet on Godavari-Banakacherla: Kishan

HYDERABAD: Insisting that the Centre has not taken any decision on the Godavari-Banakacherla (G-B) project proposed by the Andhra Pradesh government, Union Minister G Kishan Reddy on Monday said that the Pre-Feasibility Report submitted to the Ministry of Jal Shakti is under examination. Addressing a press conference at the BJP state office, Kishan confirmed that the Telangana government has raised several issues and objections to the project, which he said were being looked into. 'The Central Water Commission (CWC) will study these concerns and submit a report, based on which the Centre will make a decision. As of now, nothing has been finalised,' Kishan said. CM should take up G-B matter with Centre & AP, advises Kishan The BJP state president noted that water-related projects must adhere to established rules, regulations and MoUs. The Centre also seeks inputs from riparian states concerned before granting approvals. Criticising political leaders for targeting the BJP and Centre over the issue, the Union minister urged both the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments to hold discussions. He appealed to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to write to the Centre and to his Andhra Pradesh counterpart to resolve the matter. 'Revanth must take the initiative to raise Telangana's objections with the MoJS. The BJP is committed to protecting the rights of all states and their people on water issues,' he said. 'BRS approach to health unhealthy' Kishan accused the previous BRS government of failing to submit the required pro forma on infrastructure and facilities for medical colleges to the Union government. 'They didn't send even the basic information needed to secure support. We are now working with the Ministry of Health to find a way forward for the students,' he said. The Union minister also appealed to Maoists to give up arms and participate in democratic processes, saying the nation would welcome them into the mainstream. He recalled that the BJP had filed a petition in the high court seeking a CBI probe into the phone-tapping case. 'The Congress government is now silent despite demanding a CBI inquiry when it was in the Opposition,' he added.
