DeMita, 35, became quite popular in the 2010s as the host of NBA 2KTV. That led to her building out a massive following on X, Instagram and YouTube. In June 2024, the BIG3 hired her to be a courtside commentator providing behind-the-scenes content. Advertisement "It's a little different than your traditional sideline reporter," DeMita said after being hired. "We're also going to make sure that there's a fun spin to it. I also do a lot of content on social media and with the media landscape changing as much as it has over the past few years, just knowing what the basketball audience and the BIG3 audience wants to see and what's going to excite them. What are some of the little questions that we can ask? What behind the scenes content can we give them that's interesting to them, gets them more invested in the players and coaches and the culture of the league?" Unfortunately for the former Old Dominion hooper, she won't be working with the BIG3 any longer. "And just like that the Big3 loses all of its few actual viewers," a second fan said. "Multitasking is no longer a required skill out here huh," a BIG3 fan wrote. "But Stephen A. Smith can play solitaire and then shit on players he wasn't even watching. What a joke," another fan commented. "What a mistake by the BIG3," a social media user declared. DeMita has not yet commented on her fallout with the BIG3. She did, however, post a lot of WNBA content on social media Thursday night. Advertisement BIG3 has not named a replacement for DeMita. Cardinals broadcaster Chip Caray reportedly won't be punished for accidentally saying anti-gay slur on air: 'Honest' mistake

The offending term came in the top of the fourth inning against the Cincinnati Reds, with Caray reading a promo for the Cardinals' Disability Pride Night. Caray appeared to immediately realize what he had done, as more than 30 seconds of silence followed while Cardinals starting pitcher Sonny Gray pitched to Spencer Steer. Caray eventually began speaking again as if nothing had happened. Advertisement FanDuel Sports Network Midwest reportedly declined comment to FOS, but the outlet reports the network considers the situation to be an "honest" mistake by the announcer. Caray, the son of broadcaster Skip Caray and grandson of Hall of Fame broadcaster Harry Caray, is in his third season as the Cardinals' play-by-play man and has regularly worked in MLB broadcasting since the 1990s, most notably for his father's old Atlanta Braves team and his grandfather's old Chicago Cubs team. While under different circumstances, there have been two incidents similar to Caray's flub of the past five years. Cincinnati Reds announcer Thom Brennaman, another son of a longtime broadcaster, entered sports infamy in 2020 when he was caught on a hot mic using an anti-gay slur regarding San Francisco. He profusely apologized in the second game of the doubleheader, becoming a meme in the process, before getting yanked off air. Advertisement The Reds suspended Brennaman after the game and he eventually resigned, after apologizing again. Brennaman spent the next four years as something of a broadcasting pariah before joining the CW as a college football announcer last year. In 2023, Oakland Athletics broadcaster Glen Kuiper appeared to flub the name of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in the worst possible way. Like Brennaman, Kuiper apologized on-air and was later suspended indefinitely. The A's fired Kuiper two weeks later after an internal review reportedly uncovered additional information, which played a factor in his termination. In his own statement, Kuiper said he "will always have a hard time understanding how one mistake in a 20-year broadcasting career is cause for termination." He has not worked as a broadcaster since then.

LeBron James could join Amazon Prime's NBA coverage after retirement
Right now, no one knows how many more years LeBron James will play in the NBA, other than possibly James himself. It seems a near-certainty that he will return for his 23rd season this fall, likely with the Los Angeles Lakers, but what lies beyond that is anyone's guess. He should have plenty of options available to him after his playing days are over for good. One ESPN producer said he hopes to hire the future Hall of Famer as an analyst for the network's coverage of NBA games. Per Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports, there is also the possibility of him joining Amazon Prime for its coverage of games after he appeared in a commercial promoting Prime Day. Via Front Office Sports: "Where there's smoke, there's fire between LeBron James and Amazon," McCarthy wrote. "The growing business relationship between the basketball superstar and the nation's largest retailer could lead to King James eventually joining Prime Video's upcoming coverage of the NBA, sources tell Front Office Sports." The league will begin a new media rights deal next season, and as part of it, Amazon Prime and NBC will start airing games, while Turner Sports' coverage of games will end after some four decades. Perhaps, in a way, James has already been auditioning for a role as an analyst. His "Mind the Game" podcast, which he currently co-hosts with two-time MVP Steve Nash, has received positive reviews for its in-depth analysis of basketball, and he has demonstrated his basketball intelligence and understanding of the game on the podcast.

Portland working to rekindle Fire brand for WNBA franchise
June 20 - The Portland Fire is set to burn bright in the WNBA again as the identity of the expansion team ready to debut in 2026 begins to take shape. According to Front Office Sports, multiple trademark applications have been filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office with the Portland Fire name. The Fire originally made their debut in the Rose City in 2000, but folded after the 2022 season despite strong support. Portland's WNBA entry went 37-59 in its three seasons with its best campaign resulting in a 16-16 record just before folding. "It was such a great franchise that was supported so well by the community," former Fire head coach Linda Hargrove told Front Office Sports. Hargrove was the only head coach the Fire had in their three seasons. The Golden State Valkyries are making their WNBA debut this season, while the Fire are set to return to the league, technically as an expansion team, alongside the new Toronto Tempo next season. That will give the league 15 teams, one shy of commissioner Cathy Engelbert's stated goal of 16 teams by 2028. --Field Level Media
