Behind the Story: Ballymena riots and the online forces at play

There have been calls for calm in Ballymena following two nights of riots that saw 32 PSNI officers injured. The unrest has come following protests on Monday night linked to an alleged sexual assault. Two teenagers have since appeared in court charged with attempted rape, while on the streets cars have been set on fire, houses have been targeted, and water cannons have been deployed. Many of those targeted have been migrants living in the area, and the police have described the rioters' actions as "racist thuggery". As all of this has unfolded in the town, online there were calls to action from well-known far-right figures. In the latest episode of Behind the Story, David and Fran are joined by RTÉ's Northern Correspondent Conor Macauley to go through what he has seen on the ground in Ballymena, and what the reaction has been. They are also joined by Senior Analyst for the Institute of Strategic Dialogue Ciarán O'Connor to hear about how far-right figures have turned their attention to Ballymena, and what kind of influence that has had.

Watch moment Molly Mae admits she ‘feels sick' watching back her Love Island audition with Tommy Fury

MOLLY-MAE Hague admitted she "felt sick" watching back her Love Island audition on the 10 year anniversary special. ITV2 aired a special episode this week as iconic couples and ex-Islanders looked back at some unforgettable moments. 6 6 During her latest YouTube vlog, Molly, who appeared on the dating show in 2019, said she was nervous for her audition tape to be shown after bosses informed her that it would. Molly, 26, tuned into On Love Island: A Decade of Love earlier this week and filmed her reaction to the moment she watched back her audition tape. The mum-of-one said: "I got an email a few weeks ago saying that they were doing a 10 years of Love Island programme to celebrate the 10th anniversary. They said that my audition tape was going to be show." Molly then said her manager Fran asked if they could see the audition tape, which was filmed seven years ago, before it's shown to the public. The influencer said: "I never got to see it, I even forgot it existed. "It's about to be on TV in a minute and I have literally zero idea what to expect, I've never seen it before and I'm just actually really scared as to what I'm going to say, what I'm going to look like or sound like. "Maybe they might not show mine, that would be really great." Molly continued: "They were like 'no, we can't give you a sneak peek, it's getting put up', and I was like, and that's that." The former reality star then filmed her horrified reaction as she watched her audition tape back. She gasped: "What am I wearing? Oh my gosh. I feel sick. "I'm wearing a black frilly blouse and I'm doing this with my tongue, as she proceeded to stick it out. "Oh, I've given myself the ick and I've only seen two seconds of it, I'm actually going to vomit." An awkward Molly burst out laughing as she cringed: "What does too much to handle actually mean? What am I talking about?" Tommy Fury, 26, joined Molly to watch the rest of the episode. He joked: "It's like nothing ever changed." Molly, who rekindled her romance with Tommy in May after splitting in August last year, said: "How funny is it that this is the first time you're back on the vlog and I'm watching a decade of Love Island." Tommy replied: "Genuinely, I miss that place. I do miss it because you had no worries, you had no phone. You had your own little click in there. You got on with people. And it was good." Molly said: "It was good. I mean, I wouldn't be in a rush to go back." During the same vlog, Molly admitted there's certain aspects of reuniting with Tommy that she's struggling to deal with in the spotlight. BACK ON TRACK The star said it's been strange adjusting to life publicly again with Tommy, and found herself struggling during a trip to Disneyland in Paris. 'Disneyland was just like… I don't want to say not enjoyable, because we had a lovely time,' she told the camera, adding: 'Disneyland was just, we went at the wrong time.' Explaining the family took the trip during the half-term holidays, Molly said she was joined by Tommy and Bambi, as well as a group of loved one. However, she found herself unable to enjoy the trip to its fullest after spotting other people at the park filming them and taking photos. While she tried to make light of the situation – saying she made sure she posed or stared at them so they realised later they had been caught out taking sneaky pictures – Molly said it was hard especially with their daughter around. 'At Disneyland, when I was with Bambi, it's quite hard to navigate that,' she said. 'When you have a toddler, you're out with your partner, and there's already a little bit of a new thing that you're back out together, and you're trying to navigate that, and then you can see people looking and staring and filming. 'It was my birthday as well, and it was just like… kind of tricky to figure out if we were having boundaries, or there weren't any boundaries.' 'I won't be in a rush to go back anywhere as busy and as public and as crazy as that, because we should have known better, really,' she declared. 'I think we feel it more now, because obviously going out together now, it is a bit.. not anxiety inducing, I don't know what the word for it is, it's just a bit like new territory. 'Because for people it's a bit like taboo, I don't know, but if people see us out, it's like 'oh, like let's film!' 'I don't know – I just think I maybe felt it a bit more this time,' she noted. After posting the vlog, Molly and Tommy whisked themselves away to a romantic "staycation" for the weekend. Holing up in the Cotswolds, Molly looked happy as she cuddled up next to Tommy during some downtime. 6 6 6

Behind the Story: Nursing home care issues, the Trump-Musk breakup

The RTÉ Investigates documentary into care at one of Ireland's leading nursing home providers revealed multiple examples of care failings. On Behind the Story, Fran and Katie discuss the staff shortages and unsafe practices found in the programme and the questions raised about how older people are cared for. Meanwhile, the bromance between US President Donald Trump and Elon Musk ended abruptly after the tech boss criticised the president's "big, beautiful" tax and spending bill. In a statement, the White House called it an "unfortunate episode from Elon, who is unhappy with the One Big Beautiful Bill because it does not include the policies he wanted". The Musk-Trump breakup sent Tesla's stock price plunging and could jeopardise US government contracts pledged to his companies. Adam Maguire joins the podcast to explain the money behind their relationship. You can listen to Katie and Fran's analysis on the situation on Behind the Story which is available on the RTÉ Radio Player.

Spain thrash France to storm into final of Nations League 2025; set to face Portugal

Spain beat France to claim a spot in the final of the Nations League 2025. The match seemed as a one-sided game in the first half turned into a nail-biting thriller while reaching its final stages. The winners will now face Portugal in the final match and the losing team will face Germany in the clash for third place. Spain looked unstoppable and took a commanding 2-0 lead in the first half of the match. The game began with France looking strong, keeping the ball, and trying to break through Spain's defense. By the 16th minute, France had completed 202 passes compared to Spain's 172. But Spain's goalkeeper, Unai Simon, was outstanding, making key saves, including stopping a shot from Doue in the 31st minute of the game and the scores were level at 0-0. In the 23rd minute, Spain took the lead with star player Lamine Yamal gave a pass to Oyarzabal in the box. Oyarzabal outsmarted the defenders and set up Nico Williams, who smashed the ball into the top of the net to register a goal. Two minutes after the first goal, in the 25th minute, Spain scored again. Mikel Merino and Oyarzabal passed the ball quickly to each other, freeing Merino inside the box. He then kicked the ball into the bottom corner of the net, making the score 2-0. France kept trying, with players like Dembele and Olise creating chances, but Spain's defense stayed solid with Unai Simon making stunning saves. A late goal by Huijsen was ruled out for offside in the 44th minute, keeping the score at 2-0 after the halftime whistle blew. The match resumed after half-time and the Spanish attack got more lethal. In the 50th minute, Yamal won a penalty after being fouled by Rabiot, who earned a yellow card. After a VAR check, Yamal converted the penalty in the 54th minute, making it 3-0. A minute later, Pedri added a fourth goal. Pedri played a quick one-two with Williams before he sent the ball past Maignan, solidifying Spain's dominance. France earned a penalty in the 58th minute when Porro fouled Mbappe. The French captain stepped up and scored in the 59th minute, putting the ball into the bottom left corner to make it 4-1. Spain kept control, and in the 67th minute, Yamal scored again. The young player slipped the ball past Maignan from a tough angle, making it 5-1 and sealing the win. In the 63rd minute, both teams made changes. France brought on Barcola, Gusto, and Cherki for Kalulu, Doue, and Olise, while Spain replaced Williams and Pedri with Ruiz and Olmo. France bounced back strongly and in the 79th minute, debutant Rayan Cherki ignited hopes with a stunning volley, assisted by Kylian Mbappe, taking the scores to 2-5. An unfortunate own goal by Spain's Dani Vivian in the 84th minute, added to the drama as Spain's dominating lead got lessened. France's persistence paid off in the 90+3rd minute when Randal Kolo Muani headed in a pinpoint cross from Cherki, making it 5-4. Despite their late surge, France couldn't find an equalizer. As the match entered five minutes of added time, France pushed desperately for a draw. A free kick in the 90+5th minute saw Spain's goalkeeper Unai Simon confidently claim the ball, thwarting France's final chance. The referee's whistle at 90+6th minute confirmed Spain's hard-fought victory, with the Spanish crowd erupting as their team held firm. Spain will now face Portugal in the final clash to be played at the Allianz Arena. Earlier, Cristiano Ronaldo's team defeated Germany 2-1 in the first semifinal of the tournament. The match will be a thrilling contest and it will be interesting to see both teams locking horns.
