Historian Bill Federer Says Month of June is Filled with Patriotism and Faith: Flag Day, Father's Day, and Juneteenth

The most patriotic day for America is July 4th when we celebrate the country's birthday commemorating the Founding Fathers' signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. But the month of June that precedes it is filled with three commemorative days also steeped in faith and patriotism, made possible because of what happened at the Second Continental Congress as America woke up to its power as a free Republic, and its even greater responsibility to bow down to Divine Providence. Flag Day, Father's Day, and Juneteenth. On this episode of Lighthouse Faith podcast, historian, best-selling author and speaker William Federer explains how all three of these special days exist only because of the authority the signers gave to the vital importance of faith in an Almighty God, and the value of the family. Hear how Father's Day began because of the worst coal mining explosion in the nation's history; how the American flag stands as a standard that should unite all Americans; and how Juneteenth celebrates the day the last slaves were told they were free from bondage. 'No Kings' protests against Trump show liberals' silliness

But a lot of people do enjoy them, and they can be a good way of bringing communities, large and small, together. Parades have dominated the headlines of late because President Donald Trump is holding one to celebrate the U.S. Army's 250th anniversary. The spectacle, which will feature tanks and soldiers, among other displays of our country's military might, will take place June 14 in our nation's capital. The date also happens to be Trump's 79th birthday. In a video previewing the parade, he invited Americans to attend the "unforgettable celebration," calling it - in Trump fashion - "one like you've never seen before." "For two and a half centuries, the men and women of America's Army have dominated our enemies and protected our freedom at home," the president said. "This parade salutes our soldiers' remarkable strength and unbeatable spirit. You won't want to miss it. Just don't miss this one. It's going to be good." Opinion: Hey, Democrats, LA riots make Americans like me glad Trump is president That all sounds quite patriotic to me, and it's in line with Trump's longstanding desire to properly mark the country's 250th birthday in 2026. In his first term, Trump fashioned the 1776 Commission to help prepare the celebration and remind Americans what the Founding Fathers envisioned when creating our republic. Democrats shout 'dictator' and plan ridiculous protests Democrats, however, are freaking out (what's new, right?). Sen. Adam Schiff of California, pompous progressive extraordinaire, called the planned event a "dictator-style military parade," putting Trump on par with global bad guys like Russia's Vladimir Putin, North Korea's late Kim Jong Il and China's Xi Jinping. For years, the left has tried to paint Trump as a Hitler-style strongman whose authoritarian instincts threaten democracy itself. Clearly, that argument has failed. Yet, they persist. Opinion: Can you be legally punished for misgendering someone? Colorado says yes. Liberals love nothing more than a rowdy protest, so that's what many are planning for the same day to show their outrage at the president. "No Kings Day" is one of the most prominent anti-parade "movements," with at least 1,800 events planned nationwide. It has received financial support from the likes of Walmart heiress Christy Walton and a host of progressive groups. "People from all walks of life support No Kings because our country was founded on the idea that presidents answer to the people - not to authoritarian overreach or violence," said Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers, a No Kings partner organization. That is rich coming from Weingarten, who helped orchestrate the devastating and needless school shutdowns during COVID-19 that harmed millions of children. The "No Kings" name is also ironic, considering Trump first got the idea to hold a big parade in 2017 when he attended France's Bastille Day celebration. The holiday marks a pivotal point in the French Revolution that overturned the monarchy and ushered in the country's democracy. Not to be outdone with the silliness, the Women's March (remember the pink "pussyhat" marchers from 2017?) is trying to revive itself by hosting circus-themed "Kick Out the Clowns" protests, purportedly more than 300 events countrywide. Activists will wear clown costumes to show their outrage at the Trump administration's "clown-show fascism." They have a "goal" of setting the record for the most circuses in one day. "We need to kick out the clowns, and end the greatest shitshow on earth," the Women's March website proclaims. I wish I were kidding ... but I'm not. Clowns aside, should we be worried about a military parade? Back briefly to Trump's parade. Should we be worried? Is it a symbol of the president's devious machinations? It's helpful to consider what's happened in the past. While military-style parades aren't common in the United States, they aren't unprecedented, either. USA TODAY has referred to them as "retro." Opinion: Democrats waste $20 million to learn why they lost men. Here's my free advice. "I see it like most things in American politics today," David Dulio, distinguished professor of political science at Michigan's Oakland University, told me via email. "Many observers would like to reduce this to something simple when, in fact, it's complex. Are military parades in the U.S. common? No. But are they unprecedented? Also no." The most recent such parade was in 1991, under President George H.W. Bush to commemorate the end of the Persian Gulf War. The inaugurations of former Presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower and John F. Kennedy also featured parades with military elements. It's true that our reality TV president has a flair for the dramatic. And it's obvious he holds himself in high esteem. It's also possible that Trump loves the country, too. Newsom Leans Into L.A. Unrest to Position Himself as Leader of Opposition

LOS ANGELES—Gavin Newsom is, once again, in the eye of a tempest. 'It is a profoundly important moment,' the California governor said in an interview Monday evening as protesters massed in the streets and U.S. Marines made their way to the state on the president's orders. It is also an important moment for Newsom, widely seen as a top potential Democratic presidential candidate, who has leaned into the conflict to position himself as the leader of the opposition. 'Seven hundred brave men and women are being used as pawns in Trump's war on the Constitution,' he told The Wall Street Journal of the Marine deployment, speaking from the Los Angeles County emergency operations center where he has been holed up helping coordinate the protest response. 'Our Founding Fathers didn't live and die for this.'

White House mocks Newsom address, accuses governor of hiring Harris', Biden's campaign manager

The White House took several jabs at California Gov. Gavin Newsom's address to the nation on Tuesday night as his state navigates massive immigration protests in Los Angeles. Newsom, a Democrat, said in the address that "Democracy is under assault" as he sparred with President Donald Trump over the administration's decision to dispatch thousands of National Guard troops and hundreds of Marines to address the riots. In response, White House assistant to the president and director of communications Steven Cheung accused Newsom of spending time creating the video rather than serving as governor. Likewise, Cheung took a swipe at the video's audio, claiming the production quality was akin to Newsom's leadership. "Gavin NewScum spent all this time--instead of doing his actual job-- preparing for a webinar just for the audio to not work," Cheung said in a post on X late Tuesday evening. "The production quality is just like his leadership quality-- sh***y." Additionally, Cheung suggested that Newsom had brought on former President Joe Biden and former Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign manager, who both repeatedly warned during the 2024 campaign cycle that a second Trump term would pose a "threat to democracy." "NewScum must've hired Kamala and Biden's loser campaign team because he saying this is a 'threat to democracy,'" Cheung said. A spokesperson for Newsom did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital. Other White House officials also weighed in on Newsom's address to defend the Trump administration's crackdown on immigration. "American voters elected President Donald Trump to carry out his agenda, which includes enforcing the immigration laws passed by their elected representatives," deputy assistant to the president and principal deputy communications director Alex Pfieffer said in a post on X on Tuesday. "California is trying to subvert democracy." Newsom said in the address that more than 200 people have been arrested in connection to the protests and labeled Trump's decision to deploy troops to Los Angeles a "brazen abuse of power." "This isn't just about protests here in Los Angeles," Newsom said in the video. "This is about all of us. This is about you. California may be first, but it clearly will not end here. Other states are next. Democracy is next. Democracy is under assault before our eyes." White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller also responded to one of Newsom's posts on X late Tuesday evening after the governor said the Founding Fathers did not "live and die to see this moment," and urged for peaceful protests. Meanwhile, Miller shared a photo of a shirtless man standing on a vehicle and waving a California flag in front of fumes with the comment: "According to Governor Newsom, this is what the Founders were fighting for." Trump has gone head-to-head with Newsom over the deployment of 4,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines to Los Angeles following protests sparked by ICE arrests in the city on Friday. While Trump has argued the National Guard troops are necessary to prevent destruction in Los Angeles, Newsom said most of the troops "are sitting, unused, in federal buildings without orders." Additionally, Newsom argued that the move violates state sovereignty because governors typically oversee National Guard troops. Trump invoked a law to place the troops under federal command in order to bypass Newsom. "This isn't about public safety," Newsom said in a post on X on Monday. "It's about stroking a dangerous President's ego."

Newsom Warns All of America: Dictator Trump Is Destroying Democracy

Democracy is 'under assault' under Donald Trump's leadership, according to California Governor Gavin Newsom. In a nearly nine-minute address to his state and to the nation Tuesday evening, Newsom warned that the president's choice to manhandle Los Angeles, without any input from the government or people of California, indicates a leader on the verge of authoritarianism. 'If some of us can be snatched off the streets without a warrant, based only on suspicion or skin color, then none of us are safe,' Newsom said. 'Authoritarian regimes begin by targeting people who are least able to defend themselves. But they do not stop there. 'Trump and his loyalists, they thrive on division because it allows them to take more power and exert even more control,' he continued. 'And by the way, Trump, he's not opposed to lawlessness and violence as long as it serves him. What more evidence do we need than January 6?' Thousands of locals flooded the streets of Los Angeles over the weekend in a stunning visual protest of the president's agenda. Protesters blocked off a major freeway, trashed Waymos (self-driving cars), and organized outside of City Hall and the Metropolitan Detention Center. In reaction, law enforcement officials shot rubber bullets and fired tear gas and flash bangs into crowds of civilians. The FBI added protesters suspected of throwing rocks at police cars to its Most Wanted list and ominously threatened to intervene in the anti-Trump display without guidance from California or the White House. California sued the federal government Monday to roll back Trump's deployment of 4,100 National Guard members that state authorities said had not been authorized or requested to handle the protests—an order that Newsom slammed Tuesday night as 'illegal' and a 'brazen abuse of power' that 'inflamed a combustible situation.' 'When Donald Trump sought blanket authority to commandeer the National Guard. he made that order apply to every state in this nation,' Newsom said. 'This is about all of us. This is about you. California may be first, but it clearly will not end here. Other states are next. Democracy is next.' In another decision that nobody responsible for overseeing peace in Los Angeles wanted, Trump additionally deployed 700 Marines to the City of Angels, an initiative that Defense officials revealed Tuesday would cost U.S. taxpayers $134 million. Trump also endorsed threats to arrest Newsom when the California governor began to hit back, telling reporters that he'd 'do it.' 'Democracy is under assault right before our eyes; this moment we have feared has arrived. He's taking a wrecking ball, a wrecking ball to our Founding Fathers' historic project: three coequal branches of independent government,' Newsom continued. 'The Founding Fathers didn't live and die to see this kind of moment,' Newsom said, urging Americans to 'stand up' to the Trump administration's aggressive control. 'I know many of you are feeling deep anxiety, stress, and fear,' he continued. 'But I want you to know that you are the antidote to that fear and that anxiety. What Donald Trump wants most is your fealty, your silence: to be complicit in this moment. Do not give in to him.'
