‘Superman' Director James Gunn Admits ‘Funky' CG Shot ‘Kind of Got by Me,' Pulled It From the Movie
If you thought a preview shot of the Man of Steel flying in the teaser trailer for the upcoming 'Superman' film looked bad, worry not — James Gunn did too. The 'Superman' writer, director and DC Studios co-CEO shared in an interview with Entertainment Weekly published Thursday that an unfinished shot of Kal-El flying through an arctic landscape 'kind of got by' him in an early teaser. In fact, the shot bothered him so much, it will not appear in the final cut of the film. The shot in question, featured at the end of a 30-second teaser released Jan. 26, follows Superman from behind as he soars through the arctic — likely, either coming or going from his Fortress of Solitude. When Superman approaches a rocky structure, the camera switches angles to cover his face as he does a barrel roll. What follows is a shot of Superman flying straight at the camera — with actor David Corenswet's visage looking strangely static and warped. 'The part of him flying, it was a photograph of his face and him flying. It was a photograph of a drone flying in front of an actual background,' Gunn said. 'So all the pieces were real, but it was incorporated in kind of a funky way.' You can see for yourself in the teaser below. Gunn owned up to the mistake, saying he didn't look as closely at the TV spot as he would a full trailer. The shot faced broad criticism at the time of its release; however, it appears that, even then, Superman's flight had plenty of defenders. Gunn spoke to the difficulty of depicting a hero with such 'simplicity and elegance' as Superman. Gunn has directed flying superheroes before, including Star-Lord and Adam Warlock in his 'Guardians of the Galaxy' trilogy. However, he has never depicted flight on a character as graceful as the Man of Steel. Though Gunn removed this shot from 'Superman,' fans will have to wait until July 11 to see how the director handles the character's flight overall. SUPERMAN: New Details on the Abominable Snowmen Around the Fortress of Solitude — GeekTyrant
So, remember when that Superman toy leaked showing the Man of Steel a montrous Yeti? Some fans chalked it up to standard toyline nonsense, cool-looking figures with no real bearing on the movie. But it turns out... that snowy beast is very real. Thanks to a newly released children's tie-in book for Superman , we now have confirmation that the Abominable Snowman isn't just a one-off creature, it's part of a whole tribe of them. And they live in the icy region surrounding the Fortress of Solitude. Here's the exact quote from the book: 'Abominable Snowmen live in the cold region around Superman's home, the Fortress of Solitude. Despite their difference in size, Krypto loves to chase these big creatures!' Picture Superman soaring through the skies while his super-powered dog bolts across the frozen tundra, gleefully chasing massive shaggy cryptids. It's a weird and wonderful little detail that totally tracks with what we know of James Gunn's approach to this new DC Universe, leaning fully into the more fantastical, sci-fi-heavy corners of the lore. And if you're a longtime comic fan, the idea of strange creatures lurking around the Fortress isn't new. Superman's comic book sanctuary has always been more than just an arctic man-cave. It's been a museum, a memorial, and even a sort of interplanetary zoo. In the Silver and Bronze Age stories, Superman kept endangered alien beasts in containment, often rescued from dying worlds. The book doesn't say it outright, but you have to wonder, are these Abominable Snowmen descendants of that old zoo? Did something escape containment years ago... and multiply? Whatever the case, it looks like the Fortress of Solitude isn't quite so solitary anymore.

SUPERMAN Toy Leak Teases Wild Fortress of Solitude Surprise — GeekTyrant
Well, it looks like Superman's Fortress of Solitude is housing more than just robot servants, Krypto, and quiet reflection. Thanks to a newly revealed toy set, we've got a glimpse at another wild surprise from James Gunn's upcoming Superman movie. The toy in question shows off a creature that looks suspiciously like an Abominable Snowman. It's a towering, white-furred beast, and it does't look like a happy houseguest. Now, not every movie tie-in toy ends up representing something that actually shows up on screen, but a lot of the time it does. Fans of the comics might remember that Superman's Fortress once included a kind of intergalactic zoo, home to alien species, rare creatures, and endangered beings from destroyed planets. That may be coming to the movie. Could this monster be a misunderstood relic of another world? A guardian? Or just one more threat waiting for Lex Luthor and The Engineer when they inevitably storm the place? Gunn has been upfront in the past about pulling from comic book roots, especially the more fantastical storytelling. In an interview earlier this year, Gunn explained: "I would say it's an original story, but the tone and the look of the film, in many ways, is inspired by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely's All-Star Superman. But if I wrote my own story, then I could just rip off their look. 'No, I'm kidding. They're really great guys, and they're incredibly talented artists. And I read that comic book, and it really has this feeling of the big, old-school, science-fiction Silver Age comics. We have robots and monster babies and giant kaiju and all of that stuff." And if you're wondering how that balances with a character like Superman, Gunn adds: "But that is also grounded around these incredibly real relationships with a couple that has started dating a few months ago, and now they're really learning the ins and outs of each other. 'What's good about them? What's not so good about them? And what are their ideals like? We have Lois Lane, who's a pragmatist, and Superman is an idealist, and how does that work together? My wife and I are like that, actually." That mix of massive sci-fi spectacle and character-focused storytelling is the kind of formula that will setsthis Superman apart from any of the other film's we've seen. If this arctic beast does show up in the movie, It will be interesting to see how it will play into the story that Gunn set out to tell. If the Fortress of Solitude is housing snow monsters now, who knows what else is waiting behind those icy walls.
