After winning the last Formula E race in Jakarta in 2023, the DS Penske driver topped the first free practice race at the Jakarta International E-Prix Circuit on Friday. He was followed by TAG Heuer Porsche driver Antonio Felix Da Costa in second place and Edoardo Mortara of Mahindra Racing in third. Jakarta E-Prix 2025 FP1 highlights With his performance in FP1 on Friday, Maximilian Gunther has shown he is very much in the running for the title in Jakarta this year. Like Gunther, Edoardo Mortara also proved he is back to his winning ways, finishing third in FP1. He had clinched the third spot on the podium in the inaugural session of the Jakarta E-Prix in 2022 when he was driving for Venturi-Mercedes. Finishing second in FP1 is the first positive sign for Antonio Felix Da Costa, who is currently third in the Formula E Driver Standings and is yet to win a podium in Indonesia. This season's leading Formula E driver, Oliver Rowland, has also hinted at being one of the contenders for the winner's trophy by finishing fourth in the first free practice race on Friday. The Nissan driver hit a barrier while nearing the finish line but managed to get going again. He was followed by Andretti's Nico Mueller in fifth position. Jaguar TCS Racing driver Mitch Evans, who won the first Jakarta race in 2022 and bagged the third spot on the podium in 2023, finished sixth in FP1. His teammate Nick Cassidy followed him in seventh position. Cupra Kiro driver Dan Ticktum finished eighth, and his teammate David Beckmann finished tenth. Jean Eric Vergne of DS Penske, who won pole and secured second place on the podium in the inaugural Jakarta race in 2022, finished ninth in the practice session. Andretti's Jake Dennis, who had clinched second place in both races of the last edition, ended up in 13th position in the practice race. Envision Racing's Robin Frijns retired mid-race after scraping along the chicane for a decent distance before finally smashing into the barrier at Turn 7. Andretti's Jake Dennis celebrates 30th birthday on a yacht, reads out most interesting birthday card from Nico Mueller
Image credit: Jake Dennis/Instagram Formula E driver Jake Dennis celebrated his 30th birthday in style by throwing a yacht party with friends and family. The Andretti driver has been sharing several glimpses of his wild celebration aboard the luxurious yacht. On the occasion, his teammate Nico Mueller wrote him a birthday card — and it's his race-themed message that stood out among everything that happened around Dennis' birthday. Jake Dennis reads aloud Nico Mueller's card A video shared on Andretti's Instagram page shows Jake Dennis reading out the birthday message penned by his Andretti teammate Nico Mueller. The card read: 'Around lap around the sun and you are still somehow managing to stay in attack mode. Though at your age, it might just be the sugar rush from the birthday cake. I'd say you are aging like a good race strategy, unexpected, a bit chaotic, but somehow still working out in the end. But if you get any older, we might need to swap your visor for reading glasses.' 'Hope your day is full of pole position vibes, clean lines and zero penalty points for once. Don't worry if things start going down this year, just blame the software update. If it works for the car, it should work for you too. It's a pleasure sharing the garage with you even if your setup notes are questionable. Enjoy the ride mate and don't forget to lift and coast through your thirties,' it further read. He shared multiple videos and pictures on his Instagram Stories from the yacht party even before the birthday began. He was seen walking like a king — in a robe over an unbuttoned shirt and shorts — along with girls dressed as the king's attendants. It seems his family and friends had a great time celebrating his birthday on the yacht with food, drinks, a jacuzzi, and more. Lucas Di Grassi shares his plan for upcoming races: 'We will go full force in these last five stages of championship'
Image credit: Lucas Di Grassi/Instagram Lola Yamaha ABT driver Lucas Di Grassi has finally shared his experience of racing in Tokyo and Shanghai. He stood fifth in the Round 9 race in Tokyo, which was his best performance in the four races held in the two cities. Sharing a video on Instagram, Di Grassi has now spoken about taking part in the two double headers and how he scored 30 points this season while his teammate Zane Maloney is still evolving as a Formula E driver. Lucas Di Grassi on taking part in Formula E races in Tokyo and Shanghai Talking about the two double headers and the Round 8 race, in which he finished 17th, Lucas Di Grassi said in the video, 'Tokyo, the most congested circuit of the year, and Shanghai, the track that everyone knows from Formula 1, with a shortcut, a short version, but a high-speed track. And two interesting results. Tokyo, the first race was in the rain, they canceled qualifying, we ended up washing up at the back, because they used the result of Free Practice 2, anyway, they canceled qualifying, so we started at the back and stayed at the back, the way it was, you can't even see a meter in front. It was a very difficult thing.' Di Grassi also talked in detail about the Round 9 race in Tokyo in which he gained 5th position. He said, 'In race 2, we were very fast in the dry. In qualifying, I was the fastest in the group, even with the Lola Yamaha car that is still under development. So it was the best qualifying of the year in terms of results, P1 in the group, ahead of Nato, ahead of a group that has a well-developed car, so it was very good. In the race, we ended up fighting for the top 10 and ended up finishing in fifth place, getting 10 points in Tokyo. 'It was very important at Yamaha's home, with the Yamaha guys there. Yamaha is increasingly involved in the championship, increasingly involved in our team, putting a lot of resources, especially for the 4th generation, which is next year and the year after. So, it was a very important race,' he added. Lucas Di Grassi called the Shanghai race the opposite of Tokyo. He finished 18th in Round 10 and 9th in the Round 11 race in Shanghai. Lucas Di Grassi on his performance this season and his future plans Lucas Di Grassi is currently in the 16th position in the 2025 Formula E Driver Standings. He summed up his Formula E season with Lola Yamaha ABT so far and said, 'So we've already accumulated 30 points this year with the team. I scored all of the points. Zane Maloney is still learning and evolving. It's very fast, but it still needs to evolve in terms of Formula E experience. So, we have 30 points, six times, seven times more than I had last year with Mahindra. So, the team is evolving. Even though it's the first year, we're moving forward.' Di Grassi is all pepped up for the next five races. Talking about the Jakarta E-Prix and the following races in Berlin and London, he said, 'I have to say that we have been working hard. Next week there will be a test. The week after that, we will travel to Jakarta. So, we will go full force in these last five stages of the championship, trying to get another podium or at least score points, get a lot of points in these next stages. Thanks for the support.' There are five more races to be held, as three Grands Prix are lined up for this month and the next. Here's all about the action that will unfold over these two months before the current season comes to an end in July. Jakarta E-Prix The Jakarta E-Prix is a two-day event from June 20 to June 21. The Round 12 race will be held at the Jakarta International Circuit in Indonesia. The venue was missing from the calendar last year. The other race was won by Pascal Wehrlein of TAG Heuer Porsche. Berlin E-Prix Berlin is the only venue to have been a permanent fixture on the Formula E calendar since its inception. The 11th edition of the Berlin E-Prix will be a double header from July 11 to July 13. The Round 13 and Round 14 races will be held on July 12 and July 13, respectively. Both races will take place at the Tempelhof Airport Street Circuit. TAG Heuer Porsche driver Antonio Felix da Costa has been the most successful Formula E driver in Berlin, with three wins, including one last year. Nick Cassidy of Jaguar TCS Racing has also won twice and claimed one of the two races last year. London E-Prix The London double header will be the closing event of the 11th season. It will be held at the ExCeL London circuit from July 25 to July 27.
