Law Enforcement Torch Run to cause traffic delays in South Burlington
SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (ABC22/FOX44) – Drivers and other travelers in South Burlington will want to keep an eye out for traffic Thursday. Runners taking part in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Vermont will be escorted by police cruisers, which may cause delays, officials say. Williston Road and the areas between Spear Street plus Gregory Drive may feel the brunt of traffic. All delays are expected to last from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., according to a South Burlington Facebook post. Law enforcement community members will be carrying the Flame of Hope from the four corners of the state. The annual Special Olympics Vermont Summer Games will take place after the run, from June 6-7. Annual Special Olympics Torch Run begins in Connecticut
CONNECTICUT (WTNH) — It's that time of year again, the Special Olympics are kicking off in Connecticut. It promotes inclusion and acceptance for people of all abilities. The Summer Games kick off Wednesday with the annual law enforcement torch run. Law enforcement officers from all over the state will carry the 'Flame of Hope' across our cities and towns, spreading the message of Special Olympics CT. Pizza statue at Tweed welcomes passengers to New Haven The organization provides year-round sports training and competition opportunities for nearly 14,000 athletes of all ages with intellectual disabilities. Those athletes are joined by 'Unified Sports partners. It brings people together and every year before the summer games kick off, there's a torch run. There will also be runs on Thursday and Friday. Law enforcement officers participate, and some of the athletes themselves run with the torch. News 8's Laura Hutchinson, Alyssa Taglia and Gil Simmons all have run in support and our News 8 crew was at a few of the runs last year. The 'Final leg' of the run will take place during the summer games opening ceremony at Southern Connecticut State University, Friday at 6:30 p.m. We're told all are encouraged to cheer their local officers and athletes on! HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – The New England Collegiate Baseball League started the 2025 season on Tuesday. 'Flame of Hope' to stop in Hampden County ahead of Special Olympics summer games The Holyoke Valley Blue Sox hosted the Newport Gulls at Mackenzie Stadium in Holyoke Tuesday night. This game was the first for Endy Morales as the Blue Sox's newest head coach. It was a beautiful night for a ball game, with warm and dry conditions. 22News spoke with baseball fans who are hoping for a good start to the season! 'Opening day! With my friends!' chants Gary LaPrade of Easthampton. 'We love coming out for baseball, beautiful weather. How can you go wrong?' The Blue Sox's next home game is this Friday against the Keene Swamp Bats. Single-game tickets go for $7 each. 'Flame of Hope' to stop in Hampden County ahead of Special Olympics summer games
LUDLOW, Mass. (WWLP) – The 'Flame of Hope' is making its way across Massachusetts this week as part of the Special Olympics Massachusetts Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) Statewide Final Leg, with a special stop at the Hampden County Sheriff's Office. From Monday to Friday, law enforcement officers and Special Olympics athletes are carrying the symbolic torch throughout the Commonwealth to raise awareness and build excitement for the 2025 Special Olympics Massachusetts Summer Games, taking place June 6-8 at Harvard University. Springfield Police Department marks fifth anniversary of body-worn camera program Now in its third year, the Statewide Final Leg honors athletes from across Massachusetts and recognizes the law enforcement officers who support them. Known as the 'Guardians of the Flame,' officers participating in the run represent their counties and help carry the Special Olympics torch to the Summer Games' opening ceremonies. 'Supporting the Law Enforcement Torch Run and Special Olympics is more than a tradition for us—it's a privilege and a promise,' said Hampden County Sheriff Nick Cocchi. 'It's a promise to stand behind these incredible athletes and to champion a more inclusive and compassionate community. We're proud to carry the Flame of Hope and to show our commitment not just in words, but in action.' Employees of the Hampden County Sheriff's Office will gather outside the facility on Wednesday morning to welcome the Final Leg Team and show their support for the athletes and the values of inclusion and community that the Special Olympics represents. This year's Final Leg team includes 13 participants–10 from law enforcement agencies across the state and three Special Olympics athletes. Glastonbury 2025: CMAT, The Script and Kneecap to perform as full festival line-up and set times revealed
©Evening Standard Following the announcement of the initial wave of bands in early March, Glastonbury 2025 organisers have now revealed the full line-up of over 3,000 performers for the festival's several stages and venues. The renowned festival will return to Worthy Farm in Somerset from June 25 to 29. As well as both high-profile and up-and-coming performers, the festival will have not one, but two opening ceremonies on the Wednesday night. The traditional opening ceremony in the Green Fields' Sacred Space in the King's Meadow will see the Flame of Hope, uniting 15 sacred flames from around the world, honoured with a thousand voices singing a mantra for peace, followed by a fireworks display at 10.45pm. That same evening, the Pyramid Stage arena will see a circus show performed for the first time since 1990, including an aerial performance by Look To The Skies with highwire walkers, acrobats and more. The official Glastonbury 2025 app, powered by Vodafone, will also go live later this week, allowing festivalgoers to plan their personal line-up ahead of time.
