25 "Poor Person" Habits That Are Useful For Everybody

Recently, Reddit user FitCicada5037 took to the popular Ask Reddit page to ask, "What is a 'poor people' habit you'll never stop doing, no matter how rich you get?" and people had some seriously great answers. I want to see how relatable these are; so, here are some of the best: "Squeezing every last drop of toothpaste out of the tube." "The first step before any non-staple purchase is an argument from myself as to why it isn't necessary." "Leftover nuts and bolts (and other hardware/fasteners/tools) from new furniture kits, old broken appliances, etc. go to the garage so I can use them in 15 years." "Using grocery bags as trash bags." "Checking the clearance section at clothing stores first. Sometimes I find great things for really cheap. Also, wait for the highest possible percentage off on a going-out-of-business sale." "I'm never going to waste food if I can help it. The fact that people casually throw away half of a meal is crazy to me, especially when it's at a restaurant where they paid a $100+ bill." "Using every single last drop of any products and eating all my food. Lotion? I am cutting open the tube. Shrimp shells? soup time." "Checking the calendar for the two months with three paychecks! Though this only works if you're paid every other week." "Turning lights off when I leave the room." "Reusing containers, especially glass jars, for any kind of storage needs. Buttons, pens, coins, plant cuttings? They're all going in repurposed jars!" "I pick up any coins found on the ground. The penny jar is going strong." "I grew up with no money and now even though I have enough, I still really love eating my povvo meals: instant ramen with an egg, vegemite toast with that might just be childhood nostalgia." "Toast with butter, sugar, and cinnamon." "Buying meat when it goes on sale, portioning it into useful amounts, and then freezing it for later." "Putting a grocery bag in the bathroom trashcan as a liner." "Borrowing from the library." "Wearing shirts that still fit me, even several years later." "Making my own coffee." "Wearing a jumper instead of putting on the heating." "Current household income is over $200k, and we're still hand-washing our Ziploc bags clean." "Taking public transport." "Searching for a promo code before each online purchase." "Cutting my own grass. I enjoy it and it's therapeutic for me. I'll only stop when I physically can't." "Making my lunch for work. It's healthier, cheaper, and it must look good because I often get complimented, but it's seen as a poor person habit." And finally: "I'm never giving up peanut butter and jelly." So, what'd you think? Any habits of your own you want to share? Leave all your opinions and examples in the comments!
