Firefighters tackle large fire at Letchworth industrial estate
Firefighters are tackling a large blaze at a building on an industrial estate. The emergency services were called to Birds Hill, Letchworth Garden City, Hertfordshire, at about 18:45 BST on fire engines and two aerial ladder platforms are at the scene. A fire service spokesperson has advised residents nearby to keep doors and windows road is closed between Pixmore Avenue and Norton Way and Hertfordshire Police has asked people to avoid the area. Lithium-ion battery blamed for small explosion in Fond du Lac home
FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WFRV) – A lithium-ion battery is being blamed for a small explosion inside a Fond du Lac residence late Wednesday night, prompting a reminder about battery safety from local fire officials. According to Fond du Lac Fire & Rescue, crews were dispatched shortly after 11:30 p.m. for a report of an explosion in the living room of a home. Upon arrival, firefighters determined that a lithium-ion battery had been charging in the living room and experienced a thermal runaway, leading to a small explosion. Boat catches fire at Manitowoc Marina; no injuries reported The fire was extinguished by the residents before crews arrived. Firefighters confirmed that the incident did not extend beyond the immediate area, though it did cause damage to the floor and wall. No injuries were reported. Lithium-ion batteries power a wide range of everyday devices, including smartphones, laptops, e-bikes, and power tools. As demand increases, fire officials warn of the growing presence of cheaply made or uncertified batteries and chargers that often fail to meet critical safety standards. Ahead of extreme heat in Wisconsin, WisDOT warns of pavement buckling conditions Fond du Lac Fire & Rescue offered the following battery safety tips: Use only batteries and chargers that are UL listed (e.g., UL 1642, UL 2054, UL 62133, UL 2271) Purchase products from reputable manufacturers and retailers Avoid mixing components such as third-party chargers with unverified batteries Regularly inspect batteries for signs of damage, swelling, or overheating Never charge batteries unattended or overnight The department thanked the community for its cooperation and urged continued caution when using and charging lithium-ion batteries. Four seriously injured in crash on Shropshire road
Four people were seriously injured when two cars crashed on a road in collision happened on the A458 at Wollaston just after midnight on Wednesday. Paramedics assessed six people, three from each women and a man from one of the cars were taken to hospital with serious injuries. Firefighters helped to release one of the women from that car, West Midlands Ambulance Service said.A woman in the other car also suffered potentially serious injuries. A teenage boy in that vehicle was not seriously hurt and the driver did not need treatment. The injured people were taken to the Royal Shrewsbury and Royal Stoke University hospitals. Crash closes Whitemud Drive east at 111 Street
Police and firefighters responded to a crash on Whitemud Drive on Tuesday, June 17, 2025. (Sean McClune/CTV News Edmonton) A serious crash closed part of Whitemud Drive Tuesday afternoon. Police issued a release at 2:18 p.m., saying the crash on Whitemud Drive eastbound at 111 Street was delaying traffic. (Sean McClune/CTV News Edmonton) At the crash site, a semi could be seen taped off and at least one other vehicle could be seen with damage to the left side. Eastbound traffic was being rerouted at 122 Street. Drivers were asked to avoid the area. Police have not released any details on the crash.
