Condo car fire: 11 foreigners suffer breathing problems
KUALA LUMPUR: Eleven foreign men encountered breathing difficulties after thick smoke engulfed the basement car park of a condominium in Wangsa Maju here this morning following a vehicle fire. A spokesperson for the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Operations Centre (PGOKL) stated today that they received a distress call at 9.45 am before a team from the Wangsa Maju Fire and Rescue Station was deployed to the scene. The spokesperson said the engine of a Nissan Teana was 30 per cent burnt, causing the basement to be filled with smoke. All victims were rushed to Kuala Lumpur Hospital. 'Eleven firefighters were involved in the operation to douse the fire. The PGOKL Fire Investigation Unit was also dispatched to the scene to determine the cause of the incident,' the spokesperson added.

Car fire in Wangsa Maju sends 11 to hospital
KUALA LUMPUR: Eleven foreign men suffered breathing difficulties after a car caught fire in the basement of Riana Green East Condominium, Wangsa Maju today. Fire and Rescue department operations commander Nasaruddin Haron said they received an emergency call at 9.45am. "Following the call, a team from the Wangsa Maju Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the scene with 11 personnel, along with one Fire Rescue Tender and one Emergency Medical Rescue Services vehicle," he said. He said the fire began in the engine compartment of a Nissan Teana, damaging about 30 per cent of the vehicle and filling the basement with smoke. Six victims were taken to Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) by a Civil Defence Force ambulance. Two more were transported via the department's EMRS vehicle, while the rest were sent using HKL ambulances. The department has sent an investigation team to determine the cause of the fire. Five escape death as car catches fire in Balik Pulau
BALIK PULAU: Quick thinking by five friends saved their lives when the Toyota Camry they were travelling in suddenly emitted smoke and caught fire along Jalan Tun Sardon here today Seri Balik Pulau Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Mohamad Nizar Ibrahim said the group, consisting of one man and four women in their 50s, managed to escape unhurt in the 1.10 pm incident. 'The driver noticed a burning smell while driving but continued on until he saw smoke coming from the engine. He immediately told his four friends to get out of the car 'Moments after they exited, flames erupted from under the hood, and the vehicle was quickly engulfed in fire, destroying more than 90 per cent of it,' he said when contacted today. Firefighters brought the blaze under control and fully extinguished it by 1.36 pm. He added that an overhaul was carried out to eliminate any remaining hazards, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Man electrocuted while plucking mangoes with metal rod
PAPAR: A 42-year-old man died when he was electrocuted after climbing a tree to pluck mangoes in Kampung Bambangan here on Sunday (June 8). Papar Fire and Rescue Station Chief Rozlan Osman said that following an emergency call via MERS999 at about 3:01pm, he dispatched a brigade of eight firefighters to the scene within seven minutes. "The victim is believed to have climbed the tree and used an iron rod to poke at the mangoes, before the rod came into contact with a nearby electric cable, causing the man to be electrocuted and rendered unconscious on the tree. "The firemen then proceeded to lower the victim using a ladder and rescue rope after the electricity supply was cut off by Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB)," he said when contacted Sunday. The victim was confirmed dead at the scene by a medical officer before being handed over to police for further action. The rescue operation concluded at 4:29pm. - Bernama

Lorry crashes into stall, mosque fence in Sungai Buloh, man killed
KUALA LUMPUR: A man was killed, believed to have been hit by a lorry in an accident in front of the Bandar Baru Mosque in Sungai Buloh, Selangor, this afternoon. Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Assistant Director of Operations, Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar, said the department received an emergency call about the incident at 1.36 pm and a team from the Sungai Buloh Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the location. He said the accident involved a Nissan UD that crashed into a hawker stall and the fence of a mosque after hitting a motorcycle. 'A 30-year-old man was found pinned under the lorry, and he was confirmed dead by a medical team at the scene,' he said. The body was then handed over to the police for further action.
