Arrest made after several businesses set alight in New Westminster, B.C.

Police have made an arrest in connection to a series of fires that occurred within businesses in New Westminster, B.C., last week. Officers were first called to a suspicious fire inside a store in the 600 block of 6th Street in the city's Uptown neighbourhood around 5 p.m. June 13, the New West Police Department said in a statement Wednesday. After arriving at the blaze with the New Westminster Fire and Rescue Service, they learned a second suspicious fire had been found at another business in the same block. Approximately four hours later, police were called to a third blaze in the 600 block of 7th Avenue. An arrest near the scene was made 'without incident,' police said. 'We'd like to thank the store staff for calling 9-1-1 so quickly,' said Sgt. Andrew Leaver in the statement. 'This allows us to start work right away, and in this case we were able to begin working with fire investigators and obtain a suspect description.' Police are still investigating the incident and anyone who has relevant information who has not yet spoken to police is asked to call 604-525-5411 and reference file number 2025-10022.

Edmonton police are looking for clues in connection with a suspicious death and house fire discovered early Sunday morning. Edmonton Fire Rescue Service firefighters responding to an early morning residential fire in the area of 120 Avenue and 77 Street found a deceased man inside and contacted the northwest division of the Edmonton Police Service at 2:47 a.m. Responding officers determined the death to be suspicious and the EPS homicide unit is investigating. A police 'do not cross' tape crossed the front of a small white frame house with blue trim at 12008 77 St. NW Sunday morning. The upper floor of the home appeared to have been gutted by fire and officers were at the site at 11 a.m. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday. 'Anyone with information about this suspicious death, or anyone with security or dash camera footage of the area around 77 Street and 120 Avenue at approximately 1:30 to 2 a.m. on June 1, is asked to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone,' said an EPS news release Sunday. Norfolk fire crews called to blaze near Caldecott golf club

A dozen fire crews spent nearly seven hours tackling a wildfire close to a golf Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to Sandy Lane in Belton, near Great Yarmouth at about 14:44 BST on Sunday after reports of a blaze on Belton appliances, water carriers and a control unit from across the county worked to bring the flames under control and were stood down at about 21:35. One crew returned to the scene on Monday morning to dampen the remaining hotspots. The incident took place near electricity pylons but no power cuts were reported.
