Lions in Dublin 'extra special' for Irish
Lock Tadhg Beirne says taking on Argentina at the Aviva Stadium, while wearing the colours of the British and Irish Lions, will be another "special day" for the squad's Ireland 33-year-old is one of six Irish players who will be on show when the 2025 Lions squad takes the field for the first time against the Pumas on Friday (20:00 BST).Beirne, Bundee Aki and Finlay Bealham all start, while Tadhg Furlong, Ronan Kelleher and Mack Hansen have been named among Andy Farrell's replacements for what is the only game before the squad depart for their three-Test tour of Australia."For us Irish players it's extra special and means a lot to us," said Munster's Beirne."[Playing] where we've had a lot of special days, and then to add playing a game for the Lions to that long list of good days here, is pretty special." With 14 first-timers among the Lions side, for Beirne and his usual Ireland team-mates the week has felt both familiar and very different. "The lead-up to the game is going to feel very similar, doing all the same things that we would do in Irish camp, either going to the same coffee places or preparing for the game the same way."A lot of it is similar but different at the same time, because you're not used to being around the same players that you would be used to, and it makes it a lot more enjoyable."Beirne was part of the Ireland side that just edged Argentina 22-19 at the same venue in November."They really put it to us, and we probably just got over the line in the end," he added."It'll be no different come Friday, it'll be their World Cup final and that's the way we're going to treat it. It's a huge opportunity for us to set the tone for the tour."

Aussie trio set to roar for Lions in Argentina Test
The British and Irish Lions have thrust their three Australian stars into the team for their one-off Test against Argentina in Dublin that will launch their eagerly awaited tour Down Under. Scottish centre Sione Tuipulotu and Irish prop Finlay Bealham are both named in the starting lineup while Ireland wing Mack Hansen is among the replacements for Friday's contest, which will be the launchpad for the three-Test trip to take on the Wallabies. It's a real boost for the three Australian-born players that they have been given first crack at playing in red for the Test side, which will be captained by England's Mario Itoje. Itoje leads a starting XV that will feature English playmakers Marcus Smith at fullback, and Alex Mitchell and Fin Smith in the halves. Coach Andy Farrell has put his faith in Scottish skipper Tuipulotu in a centre partnership with Ireland's Bundee Aki after the Melburnian returned from being injured for much of this season. Canberra's Bealham has been pushed straight into the lineup after only being drafted in as a late addition to the squad last week because of Scot Zander Fagerson's injury withdrawal. Hansen, one of Farrell's favourites when he was coaching Ireland, will get his chance to show off his mercurial skills from off the bench. Hansen's compatriot Tadhg Furlong will be given the opportunity to prove his fitness after struggling with a calf injury that ruled him out of Leinster's United Rugby Championship final victory over the Bulls. "Congratulations to Maro Itoje ahead of leading out the Lions for the first time. It's a truly special moment and one that very few players ever get to experience," Farrell said. "Maro has led the group well during our time in Portugal and then Dublin this week. This is also our first opportunity to show what the 2025 Lions are about and what we want to stand for as a team." The three Australian players will be among 14 players in all making their Lions debut against the Pumas. Argentina have named a much-changed line-up with a first start for centre Justo Piccardo and three potential debutants off the bench. Coach Felipe Contepomi has taken the opportunity to blood several new players in the matchday 23, though the side will be led by an old hand in hooker Julian Montoya. Tomas Albornoz has been selected at flyhalf and forms the halfback pairing with Gonzalo Garcia, while Piccardo and Lucio Cinti are the centres. Tickets still available for Lions game against Argentina amid hefty pricing
Far from being the sell-out anticipated, tickets are still available for the British & Irish Lions ' warm-up non-Test against Argentina in the Aviva Stadium on Friday (kick-off 8pm, live on TG4 and Sky Sports). Most likely the hefty pricing of tickets and hotels are a contributory factor for what is the Lions first game in Ireland. In addition to premium-level tickets being returned, the cheapest remaining single tickets on Ticketmaster are priced at €148, while those seeking two tickets together will have to pay a minimum of €190 on Ticketmaster to be able to sit with a friend or family member. Last week, one colleague looking to stay in Dublin on Friday night could not find a hotel room for less than €550, for one night. A search on on Wednesday following the two team announcements, uncovered one hotel priced at €280 for a one-night stay on Friday night, with another at €473 and thereafter none for less than €720. READ MORE For his first game as the Lions' head coach, Andy Farrell has named a match day 23 captained by Maro Itoje and featuring 14 players in line to make their Lions debut as well as three Irish players in the starting XV in Finlay Bealham, Tadhg Beirne and Bundee Aki, and three replacements in Ronan Kelleher, Tadhg Furlong and Mack Hansen. Whether that will encourage some supporters to snap up the remaining tickets and make this historic fixture a sell-out remains to be seen.

In the latter list is Andy Farrell's son, Owen, who though vastly experienced and a three-time Lion has endured a tough season with Racing in France and didn't make the cut. Farrell could well get a late call up, with only Finn Russell, Fin Smith and Marcus Smith the dedicated fly halves. There's fireworks aplenty in the back division, with Duhan van der Merwe one of the great finishers, center Sione Tuipulotu back from injury and Russell a Scottish trio pulling strings.
