One Piece: Oda confirms the 5 most legendary pirates from the Old era
Now that One Piece has stepped into its Final Saga, creator Eiichiro Oda is finally starting to reveal the truth about those really, really bad pirates from way back—the ones who crisscrossed and pillaged the seas long before our fearless protagonist, Monkey D. Luffy, had even hatched. As great as those mythical figures were in shaping the world and laying the groundwork for all the drama taking place today, most notably in the unraveling Elbaf arc that is unfolding before our eyes right now, For viewers who may be unfamiliar with One Piece, these aren't just tough bad guys—they're the huge, mythical, legendary giants of the pirate age. Whether you've been watching anime for decades, or you're just ready to figure out why everyone seems to be raving about this greatest-of-all-time series, here's your guide to the illustrious top-five most infamous scallywags of the Golden Age, as recently corroborated by Oda himself. 1. Gol D. Roger – The true pirate king A t the top of the list is Gol D. Roger, the man that fully conquered the Grand Line and was the very first Pirate King. Like Gol D. Roger, he possessed the mythical treasure, One Piece, and ignited the Great Pirate Era with his dying declaration. In pure strength, he had no equal in his prime and even at the peak of his days on the ocean, he was crewmates with two of the strongest men you could ever imagine in Rayleigh and Gaban. Oh Joy Boy… I'm so jealous you got to be born in that era. – Gol D. Roger. Roger's influence can be felt even to this day, and no pirate in all of history has inspired so much romance, peril, and intrigue as he. 2. Whitebeard – The world's strongest man Edward Newgate, better known to most by his moniker of Whitebeard, was Roger's equal in battle, and was The Strongest Man in the World. He had previously sailed under Rocks D. Xebec before forming his own crew and then achieving ascendance as a Yonko (one of the four pirate emperors). The world feared Whitebeard's might and revered his crew. His passing on Marineford marked the true end of an era. His impact, mostly via his Tremor-Tremor Fruit ability that could literally cause islands to explode. 3. Rocks D. Xebec – The hidden monster Rocks D. Xebec was one of the coolest, most dangerous, most stylish tutorial stage crushingest, neatest, deadliest pirates to ever live. His vision didn't end at ruling the waves. His crews were later inspirations for legends on the sea like Kaido, Big Mom, and Whitebeard. So strong even, that it took Roger and Garp side by side to beat him at God Valley. In spite of the fact that he himself has largely disappeared into obscurity, Rocks was at one time Roger's greatest rival and arguably the most dangerous pirate who ever lived. 4. Silvers Rayleigh – The dark king and right hand of Roger Silvers Rayleigh was the first mate to Roger. Even in retirement though, his power is as shocking as it is real. Much like Zoro, he trained Luffy during the time skip and is one of the extremely few characters in all of One Piece that can go toe-to-toe with an Admiral and keep them at a standstill. As late as May of this year, series creator Eiichiro Oda confirmed that Rayleigh was one of the three strongest crew members of Roger's crew, only behind the Pirate King himself. 5. Scopper Gaban – Roger's left hand and a silent legend Though his name is less widely recognized than Rayleigh's, Scopper Gaban was just as much a top-notch member of Roger's crew. Alongside Rayleigh, the three were known as the Wings of the Pirate King — a title that perfectly depicts their overwhelming strength and loyalty. As misused as Gaban has been in the show up to this point, Oda all but solidified his status as a legend by the confirmation. Fans are betting on him taking up a key position in the next acts of the Final Saga, as we called for in 10 Cut Content Elements That Would Make The Final Saga Even Better. Bonus Mention: Joy Boy – The pirate who came before everyone Joy Boy Perhaps the most fabled figure mentioned by the great pirates of the past, Joy Boy is a possible candidate and alt. His personal story becomes linked very deeply to the larger mysteries of the Void Century and the One Piece treasure itself. Fast forward to today and as the story approaches its climax, fans are finally learning how Joy Boy's legacy relates to Luffy's own destiny. One Piece legends still shape the present One Piece is credited as one of the greatest character driven stories of all time. These five mythical pirates from the Golden Age are in a realm of their own. Whether it be Roger's ideology, Whitebeard's power or Rocks' insanity, all of them contributed significantly to the creation of the pirate world as we know it today. Readers will need to hold out until One Piece Chapter 1152, releasing on June 25, 2023 if the schedule stays as is, to find out. Even at this point, fans are super pumped to find out more about the history. One thing's for certain though, even in passing, these legends continue to be an influence on the Final Saga and the Straw Hats' future.

One Piece: Oda reveals the real reason Gol D. Roger never fought Imu
One Piece entered its Final Saga earlier this year, and fans have watched the greatest mysteries of the world unfold before them. After more than twenty years of hijinks galore, the narrative has moved on to the enigmatic leader of the World Government, Imu, and the long-concealed history of the Void Century. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now One question that's been gnawing at fans for ages is the reason Gol D. Roger, the Pirate King himself, didn't take a stand against Imu once he found out the truth. According to creator Eiichiro Oda, there's more than just an arbitrary need to have a classic final boss — and this is why Roger never fought Imu. In short, it's all about timing, prophecy and destiny. Spoilers ahead for recent chapters of the One Piece manga. Roger found the truth about the world 25 years ago Gol D. Roger and his fabled crew of the Roger Pirates made it to the last and final island, Laugh Tale, more than 25 years ago in story time. It's similar, in fact, to the journey of Gol D. Roger and his crew who sailed in search of and found the One Piece treasure. More interestingly, they learned the true history of the world. This included everything from the nature of the Void Century, the enigmatic nature of the 'D' clan, and the truth behind the Ancient Weapons. Roger dissolved his crew and surrendered himself to the World Government. One year later, he was executed, marking the beginning of the Great Pirate Era. So why did Roger not take all of this knowledge and apply it to the world? Oda confirms: Roger was too early to fight Imu As poorly retconned by Oda, the reason Roger didn't engage Imu was because the world was not prepared. When Roger got to Laugh Tale, one of the two 'sovereigns' required to bring down the Celestial Dragons hadn't even been born — Princess Shirahoshi, the Ancient Weapon Poseidon. 'We were too early! Someone will come and surpass us. I'm sure of it.' – Gol D. Roger Roger was the first to understand that he wasn't the chosen one to lead the final fight. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now That role was destined for another — for a person who could ascend when the moment called for it. Roger couldn't become Joy Boy or Nika Roger respected Joy Boy, this enigmatic figure from the past, and in fact laughed upon discovery of the prophecy. Roger understood that he himself couldn't have become Joy Boy. Not only was he too early, the legendary Devil Fruit connected to Joy Boy — the Gomu Gomu no Mi — hadn't chosen him. Instead, that fruit waited long centuries for someone like Monkey D. Luffy to inherit its power and awaken as Nika, the Warrior of Liberation. Roger was also dying from a disease Yet another even bigger reason Roger didn't go to war against Imu was his terminal illness. By the time he discovered the One Piece, Roger possessed just a few years to live. Even had he fought with all his might, he wouldn't have lived long enough to win the war. Instead of letting fate pass him by, Roger decided to inspire the next generation of pirates — trusting that one day someone would be strong enough to defeat Imu and free the world from tyranny. A new era has begun — And Imu's time is running out Now, 25 years later, Luffy is indeed doing just that, treading the same path created by Roger himself. Unlike Roger, Luffy is indeed not too early — he is the one of the prophecy. Shirahoshi is very much alive, the Ancient Weapons are beginning to make their presence felt and the Great War has just begun. Now that the Final Saga is well underway and secrets surrounding Imu are finally beginning to come to light, fans are more anxious than ever to see this epic confrontation. One Piece chapter 1151 release date and time One Piece Chapter 1151 will be officially available on June 8, 2025, but fans can read it for free on Manga Plus. In Japan, the new chapter is released at 12 AM JST on Monday, but most international readers (US and UK included) will be able to read it on the evening of Sunday, June 8. Roger's legacy lives on Roger probably didn't have to battle Imu, but his choice to wait for the right one revolutionized the world forever. Now, it's Luffy's turn to take on the World Government, learn the truth of the world, and maybe even become the next Joy Boy. The Final War is coming — and this time, Imu won't escape the storm.

One Piece creator teases return of major villain in Elbaf arc
Spoiler Alert: This article contains spoilers for One Piece 's Elbaf Arc and Chapter 1150 . Today, as One Piece begins its Final Saga, the stakes have never been higher. This new Elbaf Arc is chock-full of daunting antagonists, unfathomable abilities, and a world teetering on the brink of destruction. Now, fans are buzzing about the development, but even more so about the twist. Eiichiro Oda might be teasing the return of Big Mom, one of the series' most notorious and deadly villains, previously thought deceased during battle. One Piece is a cultural phenomenon — a Japanese manga/anime co-created by Eiichiro Oda that has been serialized since the late 90s. It centers around Monkey D. Luffy and his pirate crew as they sail across a fantastical world of islands and seas, searching for the ultimate treasure known as the One Piece. Over its 25+ year run, it has become one of the largest and most impactful series in pop culture. Oda has always been against character revivals Yet Oda has gained a notorious reputation for steering clear from the anime trope of resurrecting dead characters. In previous interviews, he explained that bringing characters back to life lacks a natural cause and purpose and usually undermines the narrative. His most famous rule of all is no unforgettable characters – if a character is so popular that it would be a tragedy to lose them, they shouldn't have been killed off in the first act. 'I've always hated revivals since I was a kid. It makes me question the story,' Oda once said. 'I write One Piece for the 15-year-old version of myself.' As much as he avoids revivals, Oda is equally as cautious with character deaths. He leaves characters' fates ambiguous—an undetected storytelling trick that preserves the possibility of fan faves returning, without ever bending the rules of his own world. Elbaf arc hints at Big Mom's shocking comeback One of the largest teases in the current Elbaf arc is the potential return of Charlotte Linlin, more commonly known as Big Mom. As she lost in Wano to Law and Kid, she never died on screen. Now, here in Elbaf, her name and likeness are surfacing in nefarious ways. Killingham's Kirin ability conjures up children's nightmares, include a horrible mother figure—one that fans say resembles Big Mom exactly. Additionally, the titans of Elbaf have referenced her several times, suggesting that her tale is just beginning—even if it was recently concluded. Almost as unbelievable, one of those Blackbeard pirates was just quoted as saying the following on the talk show of your choice: 'We're facing the pirates who killed your mom.' — A possible reference to Pudding and Big Mom. Could Imu bring Big Mom back? Our shadowy global overlord Imu has already demonstrated that he or she possesses the devil fruit skills to raise people from the dead as mindless abominations. If Oda does decide to break his own rule, perhaps Elbaf would be the ideal arc to bring Big Mom back — either as a resuscitated villain or living dead horror under Imu's control. Considering that Elbaf is currently looking like the darkest, most serious arc of the entire series, Big Mom returning would have to be a huge turning point within the Final Saga. When is the next One Piece chapter coming out? One Piece Chapter 1151 will most likely be officially released on June 8, 2025, for the majority of the international readership. In Japan, the chapter release is at 12 AM JST on Monday, but readers in the US and UK will be able to read it as early as Sunday, June 8 on official platforms such as Manga Plus. Oda has always played the long game, planting seeds that take years to grow. With the end of One Piece in sight, no twist is too wild, and no villain too dead to return. Whether Big Mom comes back as a revived queen of terror or a cursed tool of Imu, one thing is certain—the Final Saga is only getting more intense from here. One Piece: Oda confirms Luffy needs a new power-up stronger than Gear 5 and conqueror's haki
The Final Saga kicks into gear, the Straw Hat captain will have to contend with his most formidable opponent yet—Imu, a god-like king even more powerful than Kaido. One Piece's world is on the brink of its largest climax yet. After more than 25 years of piracy, the saga is entering its Final Saga after all this time, and creator Eiichiro Oda is doing all he can to ensure fans know what's really at stake. In another significant spoiler, Oda admitted that even with the immense powers of Luffy's Gear 5 and his advanced Haki, he will require an even more unrealized potential to beat the order's ultimate villain Imu. One Piece is an internationally beloved, record-breaking manga and anime franchise about the adventures of Luffy, a boy whose body has turned into rubber and who dreams of becoming King of the Pirates. To stay competitive with villains that have come before him, Luffy has been given new powerful transformations and fighting styles, becoming more powerful in every story arc. In this Final Saga, even his strongest forms might not be enough. Luffy reached Yonko-level in wano, but that's still not enough During the Wano Country arc, Luffy was able to take full advantage of Gear 5 once his Devil Fruit had awoken. This transformation provided him with almost cartoon-like liberties in combat, enabling him to contort, extend, and otherwise manipulate the field of play to suit his preferences. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Encontre voos low-cost Voos | Anúncios de Pesquisa Saiba Mais Undo On top of this, he developed the ability to coat his strikes in Conqueror's Haki, a special kind of spiritual energy only the most powerful characters can master. 'This is my peak! This is Gear 5!' — Monkey D. Luffy During the Wano arc of One Piece, he uses these powers to defeat Kaido, the world's strongest creature. With that victory, Luffy became a Yonko himself. He is one of the four empire-building pirates calling the shots in the New World. Now, a much larger menace has come: Imu, the true lord of the world. Imu's power is beyond anything we've seen before When it comes to the main villain of One Piece, I do believe that Imu is almost unlike any other villain fans have gotten in this series. Imu's first major appearance came during the Wano arc earlier this year, in which he's revealed to control the World Government from the shadows and has lived for centuries, perhaps even since the Void Century. In Chapter 1149, fans were treated to a first-hand account of Imu releasing unimaginable powers, all the while manipulating a creature called Gunko. Not only is Imu physically powerful, they possess Conqueror's Haki, can (as we've discussed here) grant others immortality, and might even share powers with the Five Elders—who have all become powerful yokai thanks to dark abilities. 'Allow Mu to show thee the dominance of a God!' — Imu Additionally, it's implied that Imu's powers go beyond the physical and influence the soul, rendering them virtually immune to defeat by outside force. Even Joy Boy, a mythical hero credited with being even stronger than current Luffy, might not have been able to defeat Imu in the past. Gear 5 and haki aren't enough to win the final war If Luffy's ever going to achieve victory, he'll require a lot more than just Gear 5 and Conqueror's Haki. Based on these theories and recent developments as well as Oda's foreshadowing, it seems like Luffy will need to learn or discover new techniques that can affect the soul in order to harm or defeat Imu. This might mean: Mastering Gear 5 deeper, unlocking potential With Mastering Gear 5 deeper, tapping into various new abilities. Better still would be perfecting all three varieties of Haki, namely Observation, Armament, and Conqueror's. Discovering these soul-based attacks might be the key in defeating the immortals Receiving counsel from influential mentors, such as the enigmatic Scopper Gaban who should finally return to help train Luffy Where to read and watch One Piece The new One Piece chapter is serving all that hype as well right now in the Final Saga. Read the Manga Free and legal on Manga Plus and Watch the English Dub Available on Crunchyroll, Netflix, and Funimation Luffy's journey thus far has seen him overcome every limit, yet with One Piece's recently-announced Final Saga promises to be his greatest test to date. One Piece creator may change the ending—Here's what fans need to know
It's now the highest selling anime and manga series of all time. Developed by Japanese artist Eiichiro Oda, the series centers on Monkey D. Luffy, a boy whose body has been magically transformed into brown rubber who wishes to earn the title of Pirate King by finding the world's greatest treasure—the One Piece. The ground-breaking manga One Piece is speeding towards its concluding chapters—but in a jaw-dropping turn of events, creator Eiichiro Oda has announced he may entirely alter the story's ending. With Luffy making his way toward the fabled One Piece and the Final Saga underway, Oda's audacious claim has sent fans into a frenzy. One Piece is ending soon—And the story is more intense than ever As of now, One Piece is in its Final Saga, with the most recent chapters set in the Elbaf arc. This arc is packed with huge changes. Luffy is about to finally claim the title of Pirate King, and the final antagonist of the world government, Imu, has at last been revealed. With three of the four Road Poneglyphs already in hand, Luffy is only one step away from reaching the final island, Laugh Tale, where the legendary treasure he seeks awaits. With the arrival of the Elbaf Mural and very recently, the Poneglyphs, we've had confirmation that Oda is indeed setting the stage for One Piece's grand finale. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Unbelievable: Calculator Shows The Value Of Your House Instantly (Take a Look) Instant Home Value Search Now Undo On one big hotel wall, for example, were the colorful scrawled words, 'The mysteries of the world—I'll draw them all.' Fans feel that time is coming very soon. Oda doesn't want fans to predict the ending Oda has a reputation for being fond of plot twists and shocks. It's only recently that he came clean on the fact that he doesn't like it when fans guess correctly on big plot points. Per an interview on Japanese radio, Oda really hates how close some fan theories have come and it's costing him dearly in plans he can't use. In fact, as he's claimed on more than one occasion that if anyone correctly guesses the show's ending, he will change it completely. That certainly doesn't exclude fan theories on Reddit, YouTube essays, or Twitter discourse. This caused some of the big theory sites in Japan to preemptively erase their One Piece theories. This has caused even well known content creators to refocus the way they need to present their ideas. Oda has had the ending planned for years Eiichiro Oda actually came up with One Piece's ending when he was in college, according to a 2018 interview. That means he's been assured of how the story will end since long before the first chapter was ever published. He's shown the complete ending to a select few, including his full-time staff, his editors, and to Goro Taniguchi, director of One Piece Film: Red. Oda has made it clear that if fans get it, he won't stop rewriting it. This is alarming. Would altering such a fundamental, historical plan make the final act a toothless one? At least, that's what a lot of fans are hoping for. When will One Piece chapter 1150 be released? One Piece Chapter 1150 drops on Sunday, June 1, 2025 (Saturday night for US readers). In Japan, it will be available starting at midnight JST on Monday, June 2. Unlike many comics, you'll have a hard time avoiding One Piece legally — you can read it for free on official platforms like Manga Plus or the Shonen Jump app. What this means for One Piece fans around the world With One Piece now officially in its final stretch, the pressure is greater than ever. Luffy nearing the One Piece that's been alluded to for 25 years, Imu officially entering the battlefield, and fans finding out the most sordid secrets of the world. Now, there's a new surprise—the ending itself hasn't been written in stone now after all. While Oda's decision here will upset many, it goes to show just how highly he prizes shock, how much he treasures creativity, and just how badly he wants to keep his audience on their toes. Whether you've been with Luffy since the start or are new to the series, now is an amazing time to get aboard. The Pirate King's legacy is being rewritten—one page at a time.
