Klarisse De Guzman returns to 'It's Showtime' stage

'Madlang People, OA!' This was how Klarisse De Guzman greeted the 'It's Showtime' audience on Saturday. The singer performed a full-blown production number to Christina Aguilera's 'Beautiful' and 'Fighter.' After her performance, host Vhong Navarro said Klarisse was 'napaka OA sa galing.' Jhong Hilario added, 'Grabe 'yung galing, ang OA.' Klarisse also reenacted her iconic, 'OA! Sorry ah,' from her confrontation with Dustin Yu on 'Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab Edition.' The singer said she is happy to be back on 'It's Showtime.' 'Sobrang saya, na-miss ko po 'tong Showtime,' she said. 'Sobrang na-miss kong kumanta after three months and one week, nakakanta na ulit ako.' She added, 'Nang ibang bansa po muna 'ko as kusinera. So ngayon, kakayod muna tayo para may pang sustento sa mga anak ko.' Klang also teased the ABS-CBN bosses to give her a cooking show. She thanked everybody who supported her, 'PBB,' and her duo partner Shuvee Etrata. 'Grabe, actually hindi po talaga namin in-expect na ganto. Nagulat po 'ko sa paglabas ko na ganto pala karami ang nanood ng 'PBB Collab,' she said. 'Maraming salamat po sa pagmamahal, hindi po ako makapaniwala. Feeling Gen Z na ulit ako kung kailan tumanda,' she added. 'Thank you sa lahat ng nagmahal kay Mowm.' Klarisse also shared that she wanted to join the reality show to present a new side of her. 'Hindi lang singer, minsan baliw din, kalog.' Vice Ganda and Kim Chiu commended Klang for being true to herself and coming out of the closet. Vice Ganda asked Klang, 'Happyng happy ka?' 'Yes kasi finally, hindi na takot. Wala na 'kong tinatago. Isa na 'kong bahaghari. I'm proud of that,' Klang replied. "Sobrang saya na di ko in-expect na matatanggap din 'yun ng tao. Actually, 'yun po 'yung worry ko sa labas.' Klarisse also has a message for her partner, who she said is her support system. 'Hi Trina, thank you dahil hindi mo 'ko iniwan kahit sa mga pagkakataong hindi kita mapagsigawan. And ito finally, masasabi ko na, I love you, Trina.' 'Love wins! Happy Pride, everyone,' she added. In 2021, Klang was a judge on the 'It's Showtime' segment, Tawag ng Tanghalan. Klarisse and Shuvee exited the "PBB" house last week after their duo received the lowest vote percentage of 31.50%. Along with the other evicted housemates, they reentered Bahay ni Kuya as duo challengers. —Nika Roque/JCB, GMA Integrated News

Julianna Peña 'plagued' by injuries for Kayla Harrison fight, went in with a 'severe handicap'

Julianna Peña has fallen from the UFC women's bantamweight throne for a second time. UFC 316 was a rough night at the office for Peña, who suffered a second-round kimura loss to Kayla Harrison. The bout was Peña's second scheduled title defense of her UFC career, kicking off her second title reign after she previously held the belt from December 2021 to July 2022. Advertisement Speaking publicly for the first time since her loss, Peña revealed on Tuesday's edition of "The Ariel Helwani Show" that she was far from her best self heading into the highly anticipated clash. "I've been doing this since 2008. I think I have dislocated, broken and torn every ligament in my body," Peña said. "I was plagued with several injuries leading up to that fight, and it was not a good camp for me in that sense because I knew I was going into the fight with a pretty severe handicap. "It crossed my mind [not to fight] but it wasn't bad enough to the point where I would have to not fight because I knew I was going to be able to push through, but I think it's a funny thing that my coaches probably didn't explain the severity of the situation to me. Otherwise, I probably would have thought more heavily on not competing." According to Peña, her injuries occurred late in her fight camp, starting in the second week of May when she broke her thumb "on a training partner." The thumb was so swollen that it made gripping difficult, she said, which she is still struggling with after the fight. After that, Peña claimed that toward the end of the month, she took a hard fall in the cage that resulted in a tear in her elbow and broke off several bone chips. The injury prevented her from fully extending her arm, she said, but she did her best to work on the hindrances before she left for fight week. Advertisement Peña, 35, said she's undergoing surgery on her elbow in July, along with another surgery she didn't reveal. But regardless of all the damage sustained, there aren't any regrets in toughing it out to face Harrison. "I don't regret competing," Peña said. "I put in too much time. I've taken away too much time from other people. From my daughter, from my coaches, from their families. So I don't regret competing, no. I just wish that I could have competed under better circumstances. "It doesn't matter because you're going to get locked inside that Octagon anyway. Knowing that I was going into the fight with that big of a handicap definitely sucked, but then lo and behold, that's actually the same arm that she isolated and was able to kimura, so I had no strength to be able to fight that — then hot-dog it, [the fight-ending submission happened] with five seconds left in the round. It's humiliating, it's embarrassing and it sucks. Oh well. Live to fight another day." Advertisement With the injuries piling up and the accomplishments already attached to her name, it begs the question of how much longer Peña wants to fight. After the loss, she indicated she hopes to jump immediately back into a title fight and challenge the winner of an expected Harrison vs. Amanda Nunes superfight. Peña expects her recovery timetable from the upcoming surgeries to be relatively short — around six months. After that, she'll see where she's at mentally. "I don't want to do anything else," Pena said. "Fighting has been so much a part of my life that it's been a week and a half and I'm sitting here like, 'What am I supposed to do now with the rest of my time?' Obviously I'm going to Disney World, I'm going on a vacation. So that's definitely one thing, but after that, I have a lot of things to consider, and they will all come after my surgery and my healing stage. Advertisement "I've proven that you can tear four out of five ligaments in your knee and still win and compete at the highest level. I've proven that I can tear my other knee and still come back and compete at the highest level. I've proven that I can dislocate my elbows and still come back at the highest level. So I've broken it all, I've torn it all. There's really not anything I think I couldn't come back from. This is just a part of the game. This is from years of wear and tear on my body, and I'll be able to come back and feel better — which is an exciting thing, because if I'm fighting with two arms, you girls better watch out." As soon as Peña vs. Harrison concluded, the table was set for Nunes' return. If Peña does get her wish once the dust is settled again at 135 pounds, she'd ideally prefer a trilogy fight against Nunes. Regarding who she thinks wins the matchup, she thinks her former rival still has enough in the tank to get it done. "Amanda and I were 1-1, and I still feel like there's some unfinished business there," Peña said. "Kayla, I would love to compete against [her] again with a camp where I'm not going in there like a bag of bones, trying to put them together with duct tape. So that would be best-case scenario, but I'll definitely be there cageside, watching them do their thing when they get ready to go, for sure. I'm curious. "I think that [Nunes] probably more than likely will [win], but I really don't care. I'm just there to eat my popcorn and watch the show."

Vijay Mallya says Deepika Padukone, Katrina Kaif were ‘right girls' for Kingfisher calendar: ‘We picked well'

In his first interview in years, former businessman Vijay Mallya spoke about his Kingfisher empire, including the famous annual calendar that saw numerous celebrities as models. On Raj Shamani's podcast, he spoke of how his calendar girls' careers skyrocketed after posing for him, bringing up why Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif were the right fit. (Also Read: 'Male Mira Kapoor': Housefull 5 director draws flak for comparing babies to dogs in Deepika Padukone-Vanga row) Mallya was asked in the interview what he thinks of the models who featured in the Kingfisher calendar having their careers skyrocket after. He replied, 'Well, because we chose the right girls. I mean, whether it was Deepika Padukone or Katrina Kaif, we had all the heroines and the stars on the calendar in their younger days.' When it was pointed out that these models weren't stars when they posed for him, they became famous later, he said, 'We picked well, we picked the right talent.' The Kingfisher calendar is photographer Atul Kasbekar's brainchild. From 2003 to 2021, he shot it annually with various Indian models worldwide. It was fashioned after the Pirelli calendar for Mallya's brand. He admitted that they decided to make the swimsuit editions instead of 'going all the way' due to 'social considerations of India'. An annual competition called the Kingfisher Calendar Model Hunt, now known as Kingfisher Supermodels, would be held to choose the models for it. Numerous celebrities, including Deepika, Katrina, Yana Gupta, Karishma Kothak, Bruna Abdullah, Nargis Fakhri, Esha Gupta, Lisa Hayden, Saiyami Kher, Sobhita Dhulipala, Nora Fatehi, Shubra Aiyappa, and others, were calendar girls for it. Deepika was last seen in Fighter, Kalki 2898 AD and Singham Again in 2024. On Friday, it was announced that she has been roped in to star in Atlee's sci-fi film with Allu Arjun. Katrina was last seen in Merry Christmas in 2024. She has yet to announce her upcoming projects.

Housefull 5 worldwide box office collection day 1: Akshay Kumar film beats Sooryavanshi opening at ₹40 crore

Housefull 5 worldwide box office collection day 1: Tarun Mansukhani's ensemble film Housefull 5, starring Akshay Kumar, Nargis Fakhri, Abhishek Bachchan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Riteish Deshmukh and Soundarya Sharma, was released in theatres this Friday. According to Sacnilk, the film collected ₹40 crore worldwide on its opening day. (Also Read: Housefull 5 box office collection day 1: Akshay Kumar gives his best opening since Sooryavanshi, film beats Fighter) The trade website reports that Housefull 5 brought in ₹24 crore net and ₹28.75 crore gross in India on Friday. The film's producers, Nadiawala Grandson, also claimed that the film made ₹24.35 crore net in India. With the ₹12 crore collection from overseas, the total of the film stands around ₹40.75 crore. Akshay had two more releases this year – Sky Force and Kesari Chapter 2. Kesari Chapter 2 had a ₹14 crore opening worldwide. Housefull 5's figures are also better than those of his 2021 Rohit Shetty film Sooryavanshi, which had made ₹39.50 crore on its opening day. For context, even within the franchise, Housefull 4 had a ₹30.50 crore opening worldwide, making these numbers impressive. Housefull 5 also stars Sanjay Dutt, Fardeen Khan, Shreyas Talpade, Nana Patekar, Jackie Shroff, Dino Morea, Chitrangada Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Chunky Pandey, Nikitin Dheer and Johnny Lever. It's the fifth instalment of the popular Housefull franchise. It is produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, Warda Nadiadwala and Firuzi Khan under the production banner Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment. The film is a comedy whodunit that follows events after billionaire Ranjeet Dobriyal is killed aboard a cruise ship he's throwing a party on by a masked killer. Three men named Jolly turn up to demand inheritance of his fortune, each claiming they are the rich man's son. Instead of being given the money they dreamt of, the three are looked at as suspects. The film has two different endings with different killers, depending on which theatre it's watched in.

Housefull 5 Final Advance Booking: Akshay Kumar starrer sells 90,000 tickets in national chains

The Akshay Kumar led Housefull 5 is just hours away from its release, and the advance booking for the comic caper is looking to close in the vicinity of 90,000 tickets. While PVRInox has sold 71,000 tickets, Cinepolis has sold about 19,000 tickets for the opening day as on Thursday at 11.59 PM. The film could open the first show on Friday morning with pre-sales of 1 lakh. To put things to context, Raid 2 had sold 86,000 tickets in the national chains by mid-night and opened the day with an advance of 93,000 tickets. The advance bookings should have been higher by at-least 25 percent for this Akshay Kumar, and this level of pre-sale leaves a lot for the film to make up with the walk-in audience. Housefull 5 has scored the third biggest advance of the year after Chhaava (2,25,000 tickets*) and Sikandar (1,43,000 tickets), though pre-sales in the north of 1.10 lakh would have looked sweeter. The biggest plus for Housefull 5 rests in the fact that the advance booking numbers are genuine and organic, without any external intervention – a bug that has taken over the industry hard in the post-covid era. Housefull is not usually an advance-heavy franchise and hence the hopes are pinned on the film to record stronger than usual walk-ins through the day, and then see a big surge in business on Saturday and Sunday. While the advance booking is about 5 percent better than Raid 2, the collections in advance would be about 25 percent better, as the makers have gone ahead with super blockbuster pricing as compared to popular slab adopted by Raid 2. MovieMax chain on the other hand has sold approx. 3600 tickets, placing itself ahead of films like Salaar (2700 tickets), Fighter (2850 tickets), and Shaitaan (3000 tickets) in the same range as Sikandar (3700 tickets). The film has sold about 4500 tickets in Miraj, as compared to 5000 tickets sold by Fighter. The scenario in non-national chains is a lot better than the national chains, which gives a hope of better performance in the single screens with spot bookings. The data of Rajhans is still awaited and we will update the article by 1 AM with the data too. Interestingly, 70 percent of the total sales all across the board have come for Housefull 5A, and just 30 percent is for Housefull 5B. All in all, its an average result for Housefull 5 in the advance booking, and the hope is on the film to deliver entertainment, leading to big spikes in the business on Saturday and Sunday. The film did gain some sort of momentum on Thursday, which keeps it in the race for a Rs 20 crore start in India, leading to holiday on Saturday and Sunday. The film should be targeting a weekend of at-least Rs 80 crore, and a good talk in the target audience will help it sail through over the weekend.
