Egypt praises Serbia's to the Palestinian cause: FM to Serbian PM - Foreign Affairs
Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty praised Thursday Serbia's supportive stance on the Palestinian cause, during a meeting with Serbian Prime Minister Duro Macut in Cairo, the Egyptian foreign ministry said. During the meeting, both sides discussed the latest regional developments, particularly the Israeli war on Gaza, where Abdelatty reviewed Egypt's efforts to restore the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas and alleviate the suffering of the Palestinians. He also addressed the military escalation between Israel and Iran, warning of the danger of the region sliding into a state of chaos, and underscoring the need to achieve de-escalation, a ceasefire, and return to negotiations. Economic relations During the meeting, the Egyptian FM commended the imminent entry into force of the Egypt-Serbia Free Trade Agreement, which would mark a qualitative leap in the volume of trade exchange and economic cooperation. The Egyptian top diplomat also praised Serbia's announcement of opening the Serbian Chamber of Commerce's first representative office in Cairo. Furthermore, Abdelatty underscored the importance of convening the 19th session of the Joint Economic Committee during the second half of 2025 and holding the Joint Business Council meetings regularly. He reviewed the potential for increasing mutual investments between both countries, primarily through the investment opportunities Egypt offers to Serbian companies. The Egyptian FM particularly highlighted the agreements linking Egypt to Arab and African countries and the benefits of Serbian business networks that enable Egyptian exports to the Western Balkans region. Mutual cooperation According to the Egyptian foreign ministry, Abdelatty further praised the progress witnessed in bilateral relations over the past years, affirming Egypt's interest in increasing the volume of incoming Serbian tourism. Given the recent growth in Serbia's renewable energy sector, he also expressed Egypt's willingness to cooperate with Serbia in renewable energy and energy diversification, especially in natural gas. Additionally, Abdelatty conveyed the Egyptian government's readiness to dispatch well-trained national labour to support various developmental and industrial sectors in Serbia. The Egyptian FM further welcomed the momentum witnessed in parliamentary cooperation between both countries, praising the establishment of the Egyptian-Serbian Parliamentary Friendship Group. He expressed appreciation for Serbia's support of Egypt's Khaled El-Anany candidacy for the post of Director-General of UNESCO. Follow us on: Facebook Instagram Whatsapp Short link:

Scotland's future according to politicians sounds bleak
From a lack of bold visions to talks of increasing misogyny, politicians weren't exactly awe-inspiring at an event on Scotland's future yesterday. Scotland 2050. An event you may think promises chat about flying cars and robots taking over our jobs. In earlier discussions there were certainly mentions of AI and technological change but the pull for Scottish political correspondents like me was politicians setting out their visions for Scotland in the future. This offered the likes of the First Minister and the Scottish Labour leader a chance to set out bold and ambitious plans. The need for politicians to do so is becoming all the more pressing. Recent studies such as the Youth Poll show that young people are losing faith in the political systems and are worried about their future. Yet, listening to politicians yesterday I was left more fearful and depressed about where we will be in 25 years. READ MORE: Why FM is suddenly talking about Scottish independence John Swinney looks to the past as he plans for the future The Herald's Unspun Live heads to the Edinburgh Fringe In conversation with Cherie Blair, Kate Forbes told us the "destructive nature" of social media "cannot be overstated". The deputy First Minister branded actor Rupert Everett's recent description of Nicola Sturgeon as a 'witch' as 'abhorrent' and 'totally misogynistic'. Ms Forbes went on to say that we have been talking about the issue of misogyny for the last six or seven years and 'it's only got worse in that time'. As commendable as it is for Ms Forbes to speak out against this, this reality may push more women, who fear the ever-growing threat of online abuse, away from public life. How we prevent this still remains uncertain with a preventative measure- the Online Safety Act - yet to be fully implemented. It's not as if political leaders are cloth-eared when it comes to paying heed to issues such as youth apathy. When Anas Sarwar began his keynote speech with talk of what sort of Scotland he wants to see for his 16 year-old son, he understood the assignment. The future is the younger generation. But then a myriad of questions followed. 'What does a prosperous, hopeful and thriving Scotland mean for the NHS, housing, workforce, skills, education etc?' he posed. 'Care to tell us, Mr Sarwar?', I thought. (Image: staff) Tickets for Unspun Live at the Edinburgh Fringe are available now — click here to book your place. Five minutes in, he spoke of using Scotland's 'maximum levers' to 'make it fit for future generations'. He's also said we need to 'do things differently' to achieve 'positive outcomes', as he mentioned cutting taxes. 'Tinkering around the edges is not going to work', he insisted. And I agreed but my brow furrowed as I tried to work out what his plans for a future Scotland were, away from abstract language... Setting out his vision, the First Minister spoke of the growing risks to democracy because of misinformation, more frequent conflicts, increasing inequalities and climate change. Although an impending reality it's not exactly the most stirring way to begin a speech on our future. 'The Scotland of 2050 will be shaped by a series of unpredictable forces', he warned as if leading an intergalactic space mission into the ominous unknown. For Mr Swinney, a prosperous future will ultimately be achieved through Scotland becoming an independent country and rejoining the EU. Yet with no clear strategy to achieve this, I cannot imagine his words are setting the heather alight amongst Indy supporters and others. After the speech, a former SNP MP told me the First Minister needs to be given space to set out his plans for a future Scotland. But with 11 months to go till voters head to the polls, politicians really need to unveil plans to inspire future generations soon. Although important to raise, nobody will be inspired by talk dominated by a 1984-esque dystopian world view full of Andrew Tate-bots that awaits us.

INSIDE MEDIA: Another set-back for Kyle and Jackie O in Melbourne
Welcome to our special coverage of the results of survey 3 radio ratings for 2025, which were released this morning. This survey covers survey dates March 9 to April 12, and April 27 to May 31. MELBOURNE THE STORY: While 3AW is expected to continue its dominance, The Christian O'Connell Show on Gold 104.3 will be hoping to retain its #1 status on the FM dial. ABC Breakfast had a controversial survey after host Bob Murphy made a joke about his co-host Sharnelle Vella previously working at a strip club. It led to an awkward apology that did the show no favours. Meanwhile, The Kyle And Jackie O show had a slight rise in the previous survey, they will be hoping to see some more green shoots in the market that has proven to be tougher than expected. THE RESULTS: It's another win for 3AW with a 12.5 per cent share (-1.6 per cent), ahead of GOLD 104.3 on 11.8 per cent (-0.7 per cent). In breakfast Ross and Russ continue to dominate on 3AW with an 18.1 per cent share (-0.7 per cent). The battle for #1 on the FM dial has taken another twist with Jase and Lauren regaining the top spot with 10.2 per cent (no change) ahead of Christian O'Connell on 9.7 per cent (-1.1 per cent). Despite the controversy, ABC breakfast has climbed to 7.6 per cent (+2 per cent) from the last survey, overtaking The Kyle And Jackie O Show which dropped to 5.1 per cent (-0.7 per cent). SYDNEY THE STORY: Like its sister station 3AW in Melbourne, 2GB dominated survey 2, despite line-up changes including Mark Levy replacing Ray Hadley. Kyle and Jackie O were number 1 on the FM dial and will be hoping to strengthen their share after a slight dip. THE RESULTS: 2GB (where I appear weekly) continues its dream run with a 13.6 per cent share of people 10+ (+0.8 per cent) with SmoothFM number 1 on FM at 12.4 per cent (+0.6 per cent). Ben Fordham is still a dominant force in breakfast securing 16.7 per cent of the market (+1.1 per cent), while The Kyle And Jackie O Show also had a small gain to take out the top spot on FM with a 12.5 per cent share (+0.2 per cent). Ray Hadley's replacement, Mark Levy, was steady on 15.5 per cent while new Drive host Clinton Maynard enjoyed a slight increase of +0.4 per cent for an 8.6 per cent share. The line-up changes at 2GB have not affected its ratings dominance in sin city. BRISBANE THE STORY: In something of a shock at breakfast, B105's Stav, Abbey, and Matt were ousted from the #1 spot by Ash, Luttsy & Nikki Osborne on NOVA who had a 13.6 per cent share of the audience. The team at B105 were forced to share second spot with Triple M Breakfast With Marto & Margaux. Both shows had 13.2 per cent share, but B105 had a drop of -0.9 per cent. Triple M took top honours overall while talkback station 4BC started to see some positive growth after coming off a very low base. THE RESULTS: Triple M has done it again, taking out the top spot with a 12.8 per cent audience share, despite a slight drop of -0.1 per cent. And it seems to be a rinse and repeat in Brisbane with Ash, Luttsy & Nikki Osborne on NOVA remaining at number 1 with a 13.1 per cent share (-0.5 per cent) just ever so slightly ahead of B105's Stav, Abbey, and Matt on 13.0 per cent (-0.2 per cent). 4BC (where I once worked) will be happy to have sustained the growth of last survey, or at least not significantly fall back. Breakfast remained steady on 5.2 per cent, Mornings was down -0.8 per cent, Afternoons was up slightly by 0.1 per cent and drive rose 2.2 per cent. That will give executives some breathing space and confidence. ADELAIDE THE STORY: Roo, Ditts, and Loz on Triple M reigned supreme last survey, despite a minor drop of -0.8 per cent share points. That result wasn't enough to stop MIX have claiming the #1 position overall with a 14 per cent share. THE RESULTS: MIX remains at the top of the pile on 14.4 per cent (+0.4 per cent), while NOVA on 11.9 per cent (-0.6 per cent) battles it out for second place with Triple M on 11.6 per cent (-0.6 per cent). We have a new winner in the breakfast slot with Jodie and Hayesy on NOVA hitting a 13.8 per cent share (+1.0 per cent), edging out Roo, Ditts, and Loz on Triple M who had a 13.6 per cent share (+0.4 per cent). PERTH THE STORY: NOVA's Nathan, Nat & Shaun continue to be a dominant force in breakfast with a 21.7 per cent share, way ahead of 96FM's Clairsy & Lisa in second place with a 13.3 per cent share. 6PR continues to defy traditional thinking in the Nights slot, with its show from Melbourne increasing audience share by 1.1 per cent. THE RESULTS: 96FM is Perth's new number 1 with a 17.1 per cent share (+1.9 per cent), swapping places with NOVA which dropped to 14.9 per cent (-2.1 per cent). In breakfast NOVA's Nathan, Nat & Shaun were unbeatable with a dominating 19.5 per cent share (-2.2 per cent).
