With no new album or world tour, just their reunion shot them to the top of the K-Pop Idol group brand reputation rankings for June 2025, proving their global dominance once again. Following BTS is the 13-membered boy band SEVENTEEN, who released Happy Burstday to celebrate their 10th debut anniversary, and girl group BLACKPINK, who is making a comeback next month with new music. The latest data released by the Korean Business Research Institute analysed consumer participation, media coverage, interaction and community awareness indexes of various idol groups from May 19 to June 19, revealing the names that made it in the popularity chart. For three consecutive months, BTS has held onto their number one spot on the brand reputation ranking list. With a score of 6,968,708, they have shown a strong growth of 4.22 per cent from May. Right behind BTS is SEVENTEEN. They climbed back to the second place on the list with a brand reputation index of 5,993,949. This marks a huge 39.05 per cent growth from their last month's score, which was 4,310,647. All thanks to their group concerts and variety show appearances, which made such a jump possible in just a month. In third place is K-pop girl group BLACKPINK with a brand index score of 4,152,491. The girl group, after a break of almost two years, is all set to hit the road for their upcoming Deadline World Tour, which begins on July 5 in South Korea. BLINKs also have been anticipating new music from the group, and it looks like it might finally be happening. Following the top three, IVE and BIGBANG secured fourth and fifth place, with brand reputation indexes of 3,629,408 and 2,730,536, respectively. The rest of the five names on June's list are aespa, i-dle, Oh My Girl, TWICE, and Red Velvet. Notably, female groups are dominating this month's chart with only three male groups in the top 10. BTS' fans debate if Jungkook knew history before wearing Make Tokyo Great Again cap; K-pop star apologises for being ‘careless'

BTS' Jungkook had recently completed his military service and made his return to the stage after a long break. The K-pop star was rehearsing for J-Hope's HOPE ON THE STAGE concert in Goyang, a surprise act marking the group's 12th anniversary at FESTA 2025. However, then backstage pictures of the members started surfacing, and one shot of the Euphoria crooner quickly went viral. Jungkook was seen wearing a black cap with the phrase, 'Make Tokyo Great Again' printed on it. At first, it might've looked like another version of 'Make America Great Again,' but the wording triggered instant outrage among Korean netizens, given the history between the two nations. Jungkook has since apologised for wearing the cap, but fans are now divided, questioning whether he truly understood the weight of what he was wearing. As backlash grew, Jungkook didn't wait for his agency, HYBE, to step in and penned a long apology note on Weverse. He admitted to disappointing and hurting sentiments of fans over the cap and confessed he didn't fully understand the political and historical significance behind the phrase before wearing it 'carelessly'. 'I fully acknowledge my lack of awareness and care that has led to disappointment and hurt,' he wrote. Jungkook made it clear there was no excuse, regardless of the reason. ' It was my fault and I was careless. From now on, I will think deeply about every decision and act more carefully. I humbly accept all the criticism and concerns regarding my mistake.' Also read: BTS' Jungkook and Jimin discharged from military: Get shy seeing ARMYs, giggle and hide behind bouquets; first photos and videos go viral It is widely believed that in Japan, politicians like Tokyo Governor Koike Yuriko used this same phrase in the context of Japanese nationalism. At times, it's been linked to national pride, anti-Korean sentiments, and even historical denial tied to Japan's colonisation of Korea. Today, the country remains one of the biggest markets for K-pop, with almost every group flocking there where album sales hit the roof. But these two countries share a long, complicated, and painful past, especially Japan's rule over Korea from 1910 to 1945. And thus, making any reference to that period highly sensitive in Korea. Jungkook's quick apology instantly slowed down the backlash, with many praising him for taking full responsibility without trying to explain it away or shift blame. 'I respect Jungkook for handling it so maturely. The fact that he didn't even wait for a statement but addressed it himself, apologised, and shut it down before it could escalate,' one wrote. But some were still left deeply disappointed and questioned how he could be so unaware of such a sensitive issue. 'Not a single staff member stopped this?' one asked. 'I can't accept Jungkook's ignorance,' another said. 'I'm not even a fan, but if you just skim the phrase, it can sound as random as 'Paris in the Rain' or 'London Bagel Museum.' But I do think it's possible he really didn't know,' a third pointed out. 'I'm an ARMY, but I honestly believe Jungkook wore it without knowing. That said, even if he didn't know, it was still wrong and there's no excuse.' A fourth chimed in, 'The bigger debate is whether he wore it intentionally. But it's hard to believe anyone would publicly wear something like that if they were willing to risk everything they've built, It's a serious problem if a celebrity doesn't know this kind of stuff in today's climate.'

All 7 BTS Members Reunite After Military Service, ARMY Reacts with Joy

It finally happened: BTS is back. In a moment that brought tears, screams, and global trending hashtags, all seven members of the iconic K-pop group reunited in public for the first time in years, just one week before their official return. The reunion took place at j-hope's solo concert in Seoul, part of FESTA 2025, BTS's annual celebration with fans. ARMY around the world had been holding their breath for a full group moment, and this week delivered just that—with a sprinkle of magic, nostalgia, and surprise performances. J-Hope, who was discharged earlier this year, has been promoting his new solo material with a series of live shows in Korea. The concert was anything but ordinary. Fans spotted Jin, RM, V, Jimin, Jungkook, and—most notably—Suga among the crowd, dancing, waving, and singing along. It was the first time all seven BTS members were seen together in public since their military enlistments began in 2022. Suga's appearance was particularly emotional. Unlike the others, he served as a public service worker due to a prior injury and had maintained a low profile throughout his duty. His return to the public eye marks the final chapter in the group's military hiatus. From Uniforms to Microphones Jin was the first to be discharged in December 2023, quickly followed by J-Hope. Over the following months, V, RM, Jimin, and Jungkook completed their mandatory service, with Suga scheduled to wrap up his duties officially on Friday, June 20, 2025. That date marks a historic moment: all BTS members will be officially done with military service. Although HYBE and BigHit Music have not confirmed any specific comeback plans, the group's presence at FESTA 2025 has fueled speculation that a group project or world tour could be announced in the coming weeks. Until now, Jin and J-Hope are the only two confirmed to be working on individual promotions. But the moment that truly stunned fans was when Jungkook and Jin joined J-Hope on stage for a surprise mini performance. The energy in the venue was electric as the three stars embraced and performed a short medley of BTS classics and solo tracks. Fans screamed, cried, and chanted in unison—a sound not heard since BTS paused group activities in 2022. ARMY Reacts Social media exploded with hashtags like #BTSisBack, #SugaReturns, and #OT7Reunion, with fans posting videos of the members interacting from the stands and clips of the surprise performance. Many noted that the unity among the members felt stronger than ever. "I've waited three years for this moment. Seeing Suga with the boys again... I can't stop crying," wrote one fan on X (formerly Twitter). Another added, "The fact they all showed up for Hobi's concert tells you everything you need to know about their brotherhood." In recent months, some online critics questioned whether BTS would return as a full group following individual controversies, including debates over Suga's exemption from active military duty. But if this week proved anything, it's that BTS remains a tight-knit unit with unmatched star power—and ARMY has their backs, no matter what. @starbyz97 #bts#starbyz97#foryoupage ♬ original sound - favsoundds What's Next? While the official post-service comeback date is still under wraps, FESTA 2025 and this powerful reunion have made one thing clear: BTS is gearing up for a new era. With their 12th anniversary now behind them and military duties nearly complete, the stage is set for one of the most anticipated returns in music history. Stay tuned. The kings of K-pop are coming back. Originally published on Kpop Starz
