Ford issues six recalls for half a million cars in one day... including one that can TRAP you inside vehicle
Ford is asking drivers to return to the dealership mechanic. Again. The Detroit automaker issued six recalls on Monday, according to a bulletin from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It's the latest in a yearslong stream of recalls for the car company. Overall, 534,755 vehicles — including some of America's best-selling models — are impacted by the recalls. The largest recall involves 304,662 Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator SUVs built between 2020 and 2025. The six and seven passenger SUVs may have a faulty part in the second row, possibly resulting in seats 'unlatching, folding, or sliding unexpectedly while driving.' Ford is also recalling 197,432 Mustang Mach-E models sold between 2021 and 2025 after investigators found a problem with the 12V battery. If the accessory battery runs low, it risks 'trapping someone who is unable to use the inside door release handles.' Another 276 Mach-Es risk rolling away after the driver puts the car in park. Another 27,768 four-door Bronco SUVs were recalled for a potentially faulty child safety lock. An additional 2,272 Broncos might have an issue with airbags deploying, and 2,345 F-Series trucks risk brake failure. Ford has issued 78 recalls so far this year, far more than any other automaker. The next five most-recalled brands — Chrysler, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, General Motors, and Honda — have just 67 recalls combined. This year's Ford recalls span a range of issues, including powertrain fixes, technical reboots, seatbelt realignments, and backup camera adjustments. Not all recalled vehicles will require new parts. In many cases, only a small portion of the affected models actually contain faulty components. A Ford spokesperson didn't immediately respond to questions about the recall list. But this is part of a long-running issue for Ford. The carmaker led the industry in recalls in 2022 and 2023 before dropping to third place in 2024. In a 2024 earnings call, Ford CEO Jim Farley said the company spent $4.8 billion annually on recalls. The top boss unveiled a 'build and hold' model for several US-built models. Ford's CEO, Jim Farley, said his company paid top-dollar on recalls last year - now, Ford has issued even more safety bulletins The Ford Explorer was also recalled because the second row risks 'unlatching, folding, or sliding unexpectedly' After the products finished rolling through Ford assembly plants, the car company held trucks in giant parking lots, allowing engineers to assess their build quality. Farley said the new process helped the company avoid 12 safety and technical recalls. It also temporarily cut into profits. 'Our earnings may be a little lumpy,' he said during an April 2024 earnings call. 'What we're going to see long term is fewer recalls and lower warranty costs because of this new process.' On Reddit, drivers are less than convinced by Ford's recall changes. 'I can only assume a significant portion of the NHTSA is dedicated to Ford specifically,' one motorist said on the platform. 'Like having a lawyer on retainer.'

Faulty Seat Switch Triggers Recall of Ford Explorers, Aviators
Ford's recall record in recent years has been extensive, with safety campaigns covering everything from engines and electronic glitches to improperly secured parts. Earlier this month, the automaker issued a recall for nearly 500,000 older-generation Ford Explorers due to an issue with the exterior trim that could cause it to come loose. While seemingly innocuous, the loose body panel could pose a potential hazard to other road users, which warranted a voluntary recall from the Blue Oval. Now, there's another recall notice, and this time it affects more than 300,000 units of two of Ford's most important SUVs: the 2020–2025 Ford Explorer and its luxury sibling, the Lincoln Aviator, manufactured between October 19, 2018, and November 4, 2024. At the center of this new safety issue is something that seems minor at first – second-row seat switch bezels – but the consequences could be serious. According to the recall document published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) this week, the voluntary safety recall stems from a defect of the second-row seat easy-entry switch bezel. The document says that the trim around the switch may have been installed incorrectly, creating interference that can cause the button to stick in the down position. If that happens, the seat may unexpectedly fold or slide forward, even while the vehicle is moving. Needless to say, that kind of unprompted movement poses an obvious safety risk, especially to passengers seated in the second row. A seat that folds or shifts without warning during driving could result in injury, and in the event of a crash, the consequences could be compounded. While Ford has acknowledged nearly 100 reports of the issue across affected models, the automaker says there have been no known accidents or injuries tied to the defect so far. Ford will begin notifying dealers and affected customers later this month. Owners of affected Explorer and Aviator vehicles will be advised to visit a dealer for a free inspection of the switch bezel. If it's damaged or improperly installed, it will be replaced. Dealers will also test and confirm proper function of the switch to ensure the issue is fully resolved. The repair process will be carried out at no cost. To check if your Explorer or Aviator is affected, Ford's VIN lookup tool is already live. Copyright 2025 The Arena Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

Laser tag hits sporting target for participants
Marty Drummond is laser ready for the Laser Tag New Zealand Invitationals 2025 tournament at Megazone Invercargill this week. PHOTO: NINA TAPU Not all sports are created equal. Running around a dark indoor maze, shooting laser beams from a plastic gun may not be everybody's game but a Southland laser tag player hopes people will change their minds towards the sport. But, indeed, is it even a sport? That is all in the eye of the beholder perhaps, but for Invercargill man Marty Drummond laser tag has all the hallmarks of a sport. Mr Drummond is competing in the Laser Tag New Zealand Invitationals held at Megazone Invercargill. The event starts today and and finishes on Saturday. He said there was more to the game than just running around with plastic guns shooting lasers at each other. "There's definitely a lot more to [it] than what you might think, It's a 100% physical sport. You've got bases to defend, bases to attack. "Good communication and being able to work well in a team are important skills that you need." The game consists of teams running around a dark indoor maze, shooting lasers at illuminated packs and guns other players are holding. Laser Sports New Zealand Incorporated is hosting the event, which is in its ninth year. The tournament has attracted 13 teams and 24 players from across the country. Committee member and Explorer team player Rachel Scott said laser tag had all the same elements as other sports. "It requires . . . teamwork [and] you have to work on specific skills, like shooting." Ms Scott said. "You've got your different strategies, which other games have as well." Participants in the invitational tournament have the chance to represent New Zealand at next year's Australasian and world laser tag tournaments.
