‘Solving old JEE Advanced papers helped in preparation for NEET'
Solving the old JEE Advanced papers and attending mock tests conducted by the college greatly helped in preparing for NEET, said Expert PU College students Nikhil Sonnad and K.G. Nidhi, who secured All India Ranking (AIR) of 17 and 84, respectively, in NEET 2025. Talking to reporters here, Ms. Nidhi, a native of Kodagu, said: 'I regularly interacted with my teachers and got my doubts clarified. I also interacted with my juniors, and it helped me revise the first-year PU portion.' Mr. Sonnad said he concentrated on basic concepts in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology. 'We solved many old JEE Advanced question papers,' he said. Shreyas M. Mahalingappa, with an AIR of 214, set a target to solve the maximum number of questions within a given time, which helped him perform well in NEET. Subramanya Udupa, the academic vice-principal of the college, said that they had students solve a large number of mock papers with a high level of difficulty. 'The scores that our students made are close to what they got in the mock tests,' said the chairman of the Expert Group of Institutions, Narendra L. Nayak. Ten students from the college scored ranks in the top 500, while 15 students scored in the top 1,000 and 24 students scored in the top 2,000. Seven students scored more than 625 marks, 19 students scored above 600, and 57 scored above 575 marks. In total, 233 students scored more than 500 marks. Almost all students who wrote NEET were qualified for admission to the MBBS course, he said. Of students who took NEET long-term coaching from the college, nine scored more than 525 marks, 18 scored above 500 and 54 scored above 450 marks, Mr. Nayak said.

Seven, including two girls, in top 100 NEET-UG scorers from Karnataka
BENGALURU: Seven students from Karnataka, including two girls, have made it to the top 100 ranks in the NEET-UG 2025 exam, securing 99.99 percentile. The results were released by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on Saturday. Among the top achievers are Nikhil Sonnad (AIR 17), Ruchir Gupta (AIR 22), Tejas Shailesh Ghotgalkar (AIR 38), Pranshu Jahagirdar (AIR 42), Harini Sriram (AIR 72), Diganth S (AIR 80), and Nidhi KG (AIR 84). Harini and Nidhi are among the top 20 female candidates in the country, while Nikhil and Ruchir are in the top 20 among male candidates. Nikhil Sonnad from Expert PU College, Mangaluru, also emerged as the state topper. Coming from a family of doctors, Nikhil, son of neurosurgeon Dr Siddappa Sonnad and ophthalmologist Dr Meenakshi, credited his success to consistent effort, strong fundamentals, and the support of his teachers and parents. 'I focused on building a foundation and solving problems from the start. That helped me apply concepts better,' said Nikhil, who hails from Vijayapura. 'I was confident of doing well, but never expected AIR 17.'

Four students from Karnataka secure top ranks in NEET
Bengaluru: Four students of the state have secured ranks within the top 50 in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) results (for admission to medical courses) were announced on Saturday. .Nikhil Sonnad from Expert PU College, Mangaluru, emerged as the state topper with All India Rank (AIR) 17. He scored 670 out of 720 (99.99%). .A native of Vijayapura, Nikhil had previously secured 98.3% in II PU and also bagged the 8th rank in BSc (Agriculture). He now aims to join the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), said, 'It was a surprise. I expected a good rank, but not AIR 17.'.'I never followed a rigid schedule. My approach was flexible. Physics was particularly tough this year, but I focused on understanding and carefully reading the questions,' he said. .Born into a family of medicos, Nikhil aspires to pursue cancer research and dreams of becoming a medical Gupta from Alpine Public School and Allen Career Institute, Bengaluru, secured AIR also aims for AIIMS Delhi and credits his parents and teachers for his success. His parents work in the IT sector, and his maternal grandparents have a medical Shailesh Ghotgalkar secured AIR 38. He said he studied from 7.30 am to 5.30 pm in college and continued studying at home in the evenings. Chess and badminton helped him relax during stressful times. .Of the 1,42,369 candidates who appeared for NEET 2025 from Karnataka, 83,582 have qualified. NEET-2025: Vijayapura boy tops Karnataka
Nikhil Sonnad, a native of Vijayapura who studied in Expert PU College, Mangaluru, emerged as the topper from Karnataka after the National Testing Agency (NTA) announced the NEET(UG)-2025 result on Saturday. He got All India Rank (AIR) 17 and scored 670 marks (99.99%) out of 720 in the NEET. He had secured 98.3% in II PU exams in the Science stream this year and is aiming to join the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi. He also secured 8th rank in (Agriculture) in CET-2025. Speaking to The Hindu, Nikhil said, 'I have never followed a fixed schedule in studying. I have always been flexible. This year, the NEET was tough. The physics questions were very difficult. But I read and understood carefully without getting nervous and answered them. I did not expect to get AIR-17. Instead, I thought I would get a good rank. So, I am happy to be the State topper.' Being born to doctor parents, Nikhil expressed his desire to pursue a career in cancer research and become a medical entrepreneur after his postgraduate degree. This year, four students from Karnataka made it to top 50 ranks at the All India level. Ruchir Gupta, a student of Alpine Public School, Bengaluru, has secured AIR-22, Tejas Shailesh Ghotgalkar has got AIR-38, and Pranshu Jahagirdar of Allen Career Institute, Bengaluru, has got AIR-42. According to an NTA release, of the 1,42,369 students from Karnataka who appeared, as many as 83,582 are eligible to take part in the counselling process this year. Compared to the previous year, the number of candidates qualified from Karnataka this year has declined. Last year, 88,887 had qualified. Under the Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PWBD-Male), Gautam Kumar from Karnataka emerged as the national topper with AIR-1,684. NEET was conducted in 13 languages, including Kannada, this year and 460 candidates registered to write in Kannada against last year's 1,065. The test was conducted on May 4 at 5,468 different centres in 552 cities across the country, including 14 outside India.

Private PU college students from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi shine in CET
Many students of the private pre-university (PU) colleges from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts fared well in the Common Entrance Test 2025 to qualify for admission to seven streams of professional courses in the State. Akshay M. Hegde, the top student in the agriculture stream at Alvas PU College of Moodbidri, was among the two students who figured in the top 10. A release by Alvas PU College said that while there were 12 students in the top 50 and 24 in the top 100, 52 students ranked within the top 200, 172 ranked within 500, and 506 ranked within 1000. Saish Shravan Pandit, who was ranked in the top 2 in the agriculture stream, was among the 15 students of the Expert PU College, Mangaluru, who were ranked within the top 10. There were 84 students ranked within 50 and 163 students ranked within 100, said a release by Expert PU College. The Excellent PU College Moodbidri's Shishir H. Shetty was ranked 4th in the engineering stream. The college stated in a press release that Mr. Shetty was among the 13 students who were ranked within the top 100. As many as 38 students were ranked within 500, the college stated. Sumanth Gowda, who was ranked fourth in the agriculture stream, topped among the 14 students of Creative PU College, Karkala, Udupi district, who were ranked within 100. Anurag R. Naik, who was ranked 236 in the veterinary science stream, topped among the 25 students of Shakthi PU College, Mangaluru, who were ranked within 8,900. There were 25 students ranked within 20,000, the college stated in a press release. In Vivekananda PU College, Puttur, K.L. Sahan, who was ranked 542 in the engineering stream, topped among the 21 students who were featured in the top 1,000 ranks.
