At Bihar rally, Modi slams Lalu for ‘insulting Babasaheb' — ‘People of Bihar won't forgive'

Slamming Rashtriya Janata Dal patriarch Lalu Prasad Yadav for 'insulting Babasaheb', Prime Minister Narendra Modi claimed that the people of Bihar 'will never forgive the party and its leaders'. Modi, who was speaking at a public meeting in Siwan, was referring to the recent controversy involving RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav alleged 'insult' to a portrait of B R Ambedkar. The controversy erupted after a video from Lalu's birthday celebration went viral, showing a party supporter allegedly placing Dr Ambedkar's portrait near Lalu's feet, prompting the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) to write to Bihar's Chief Secretary and Director General of Police (DGP) about it Thursday. Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party and its allies have been trying to corner Lalu Prasad and the RJD over the row ahead of the Bihar assembly election. The election is due later this year. 'The Nitish government is responsible for bringing investments into Bihar,' he said at the public meeting. 'But the Congress and the RJD are against investment… We say 'Sabka saath, sabka vikas' but RJD believes in 'parivaar ka vikas',' he said, asking the public to 'vote out those who brought in jungle raj'. The National Democratic Alliance was working for inclusive development, he said. 'I recently met several country heads during my foreign visit, the entire world appreciating India for development,' he said. Significantly, this is his fourth visit to the poll-bound state since the beginning of this year and his third in the last three months. His last visit to the state in May involved a roadshow and the inauguration of a new airport at Bihta. He flagged off a state-of-the-art locomotive built at the Marhowrah Plant under the 'Make in India' initiative. Established in September 2018, the Diesel Locomotive Factory is a joint venture between GE Transportation (now part of Wabtec) and Indian Railways. The factory will export 150 Evolution Series ES43ACmi locomotives to Guinea. He also flagged off the Vande Bharat Express between Patliputra and Gorakhpur via Muzaffarpur and Bettiah Friday. At the rally, he also referred to his government's flagship 'Make in India' projects. 'Bihar will become the centre of 'Make in India' initiative,' he said, referring to the locomotive factory.
