Iran claims foiled assassination plot against Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi
Mohammad Hossein Ranjbaran, an advisor to Iran's Foreign Minister, announced that his country successfully thwarted a significant conspiracy, allegedly orchestrated by the 'Zionist entity,' to assassinate Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi in the capital, Tehran. He affirmed that the plot was foiled thanks to precise security measures implemented by Iranian intelligence operatives. Tasnim news agency reported that Ranjbaran posted on 'X' (formerly Twitter) that discussions about the Foreign Minister's visit to Geneva for negotiations with the European Troika had sparked widespread concern over the possibility of him being targeted by Israel, indicating the threat was both real and serious. He further added that Araqchi views himself not merely as a diplomatic official, but as a soldier serving his homeland, striving for martyrdom in the footsteps of Martyr Qassem Soleimani. Ranjbaran asserted that without the meticulous security precautions undertaken by 'unknown soldiers' (a common Iranian term for intelligence operatives), the conspiracy likely would have been executed in recent days, but it ultimately failed.

Araghchi talks on phone with European officials
Tehran - Saba: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi discussed the latest developments related to the Zionist entity's aggression against Iran during a joint phone call with the foreign ministers of the European Troika and the President of the European Commission. According to a report issued by the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs early Tuesday, according to the Iranian News Agency (IRNA), Araghchi referred in this phone call to the blatant aggression of the Zionist entity against Iran and its attacks on peaceful nuclear facilities, economic infrastructure, military bases, and residential areas. He emphasized the duty of every member state of the United Nations and the Security Council to confront this aggression and stop the crimes of the entity. The Iranian Foreign Minister described the Zionist aggression against Iran during the negotiations as an unprecedented blow to diplomacy and called on European countries to recognize the truth and condemn the aggression. Araghchi emphasized that Iran's legitimate defense against the aggression will continue vehemently, and that responsibility for the consequences of any expansion of the war lies with the Zionist regime, its supporters, and those who justify its actions. He emphasized, "There is no doubt that Israel, with the support, protection, and cooperation of the United States, launched this war against the Iranian people. Therefore, we consider the United States responsible for this situation and an accomplice in the crimes committed." Recalling Iran's seriousness in diplomacy, Araghchi also emphasized that Iran has never left the negotiating table, but our focus at this stage is, of course, on confronting the aggression effectively and decisively. IRNA reported that the foreign ministers of the three European countries—Germany, Britain, and France—and the EU foreign policy chief also expressed regret over the current situation during the phone call and offered their condolences for the deaths of people in Iran as a result of Israeli attacks. They emphasized the importance of using diplomacy to reduce tensions and declared their readiness to play a role in this regard. Whatsapp Telegram Email Print

Iran sends letter to SC in response to EU Troika allegations over nuclear commitments
New York - Saba: Iran responded in an urgent letter to the Security Council to what it described as the EU Troika's false allegations regarding its violation of Resolution 2231 and the nuclear agreement. Iran's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeed Iravani, said in his letter: "If the EU Troika (France, Germany, and Britain) truly wants a diplomatic solution, they must abandon their unrealistic approach and respect the sovereign rights of states within the framework of international law," according to the Iranian news agency IRNA. In a letter addressed to Caroline Rodriguez Barak, President of the Security Council, and António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, regarding the allegations and the joint letter from the European Troika, Iran's Permanent Representative to the United Nations stated: "I am sending this letter in response to the joint letter dated June 9, 2025, from the Permanent Representatives of France, Germany, and the United Kingdom, known as the 'Euro Troika,' regarding the implementation of Security Council Resolution 2231 (2015) and the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). This joint letter is, unfortunately, yet another example of the European Troika's attempt to evade responsibility and divert public attention from its documented and repeated record of violating its commitments, while simultaneously leveling baseless and politically motivated accusations against Iran." Iravani affirmed his country's "categorical rejection of the allegations made by the European Troika," noting that "these allegations, which ignore the underlying context, distort the reality of the current status of the JCPOA, the terms of Iran's nuclear program, and the responsibilities of the parties to the agreement." He added Iran's Permanent Representative to the United Nations stated that "the European Troika's allegations are not only baseless and misleading, but also legally groundless and politically biased," stressing that "its attempt to conflate the provisions of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) with Iran's obligations under the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement is a deceptive and dishonest move." Irawani also emphasized in his letter that "Iran's nuclear program is entirely peaceful, and all enrichment activities are conducted under strict IAEA oversight," warning that "any attempt or threat to activate the trigger mechanism will lead to serious negative consequences." He continued: "The European Troika's surrender to illegal US sanctions, its inaction after the US withdrawal from the JCPOA, its refusal to implement its commitments, its reimposition of lifted sanctions, and the imposition of new and illegal restrictive measures are all clear and ongoing examples of violations of the JCPOA and Resolution 2231." The Iranian representative explained that "if the European Troika fails to fulfill its obligations, it has no legal basis." Or morally to resort to the dispute settlement mechanism, let alone the threat of activating the automatic appeal of sanctions. Such a measure would be procedurally invalid, objectively flawed, and politically irresponsible. Last Tuesday, the Iranian Foreign Ministry affirmed that the IAEA report was "political and unjustified." Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said in statements that "the IAEA report on Iran's nuclear activities is contradictory and does not address the deviation of Iran's nuclear program," stressing that the report is "an attempt by the European Troika and America to justify referring the nuclear file to the Security Council." Baghaei noted that "Iran has repeatedly affirmed that it does not seek nuclear weapons and has the Supreme Leader's fatwa prohibiting them," warning that "if the IAEA Board of Governors issues a resolution against Iran, it will take a proportionate response." He noted that "France canceled a phone call between the Iranian Foreign Minister and his counterparts in the European Troika," stressing that "any proposal that does not guarantee the preservation of the nuclear fuel cycle in Iran and does not guarantee the lifting of sanctions will not be acceptable." US President Donald Trump announced that the sixth round of negotiations with Iran will take place on Thursday, while Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei announced Baghaei stated that the negotiations will be held next Sunday in the Omani capital, Muscat. The first round of negotiations between Iran and the United States regarding the Iranian nuclear program began on April 12 in the Omani capital, Muscat. The Omani embassy in Rome hosted the second round of negotiations on April 19, and the third round was held again in Muscat on April 26. On May 11, the fourth round of negotiations was held in the Omani capital, Muscat, and both the United States and Iran expressed optimism about the nuclear talks. On May 23, 2025, Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi announced the conclusion of the fifth round of Iranian-US negotiations in Rome, noting that some progress had been made but that it was inconclusive. The United States insists on negotiating with Iran to abandon its nuclear program, while Tehran asserts that it will not give up its right to enrich uranium and possess nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, denying any intention of acquiring nuclear weapons. Equal grounds: Iran stipulates terms for US talks
Shafaq News/ Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stressed that indirect negotiations with the United States necessitate a balanced environment for achieving effective outcomes. In an interview with an Iranian state-run newspaper, Araghchi made it clear that Iran would not engage in talks while the US continues its "maximum pressure" campaign. "Entering negotiations under pressure puts us at a disadvantage, and we will not achieve any gains," Araghchi said. "This is not a matter of stubbornness or principle, but a technical issue." He emphasized that the US must recognize the futility of its pressure strategy. Only once that is acknowledged would Iran consider sitting down for negotiations on equal terms, Araghchi stated. The Foreign Minister also revealed that Tehran is intensifying consultations with Russia, China, and the European Troika—France, Germany, and the UK—to garner broader support for the agreement. 'Iran has been actively designing and preparing for potential nuclear negotiations…any talks with the US would occur indirectly, mediated through a channel involving three European countries.' Additionally, he proposed a new solution to address ongoing issues with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), emphasizing the importance of adopting a flexible and fair negotiation strategy amid growing international pressures. Recently, President Donald Trump revealed that he sent a message to the Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, to make a nuclear deal that could make Trump avoid turning to military action. However, Khamenei rejected the call, labeling it as " bullying". A senior Emirati official has also arrived in Tehran earlier carrying a message from US President Donald Trump to the Iranian government. The letter's existence was acknowledged by Araghchi, but he stated it had not yet been received.
