Teyana Taylor praises Aaron Pierre's passion for her new album, ‘Escape Room'

Key Takeaways: Trending A deep dive into Will Smith's 'Just the Two of Us' and its lasting legacy 14 songs to add to your Father's Day playlist Ananda Lewis' sister shares that her dying wish was to see her son graduate: 'She did exactly that' Teyana Taylor's new project, Escape Room, blends music and film into a visual album experience. Aaron Pierre was 'hands-on' with the project, earning praise from Taylor for his passion and input. Taylor envisions her music being admired on stage like a Broadway musical. Teyana Taylor is full of the best surprises these days! After taking a five-year hiatus from music, she is back in go-mode and applying all the right pressure with her new single, 'Long Time.' The track's pulsating bass line melds into her raspy cooing of 'Should've been walked out this b**ch a long time' only for the beat to switch up, offering listeners a heart-wrenching vibe as she sings, 'Why won't you love me back to life?' The video, released on June 4, boasts two leading men: LaKeith Stanfield and the internet's latest obsession, Aaron Pierre. Taylor and the Rebel Ridge star sent fans into hysterics when they seemingly soft-launched their relationship on social media in celebration of his 31st birthday — but neither of them has explicitly given their close bond a title. Yet, as it turns out, their chemistry showcased in the visual is woven into the DNA of her upcoming album, Escape Room. The project is slated for release in August. In a new GQ feature published on Wednesday (June 11), the multihyphenate entertainer shared that Pierre played an integral role in supporting her during the creative journey. She dropped off her last LP, The Album, in 2020. Following its release, she parted ways with Def Jam Recordings. She has since resigned with the label. 'They came with a new team and a new plan. They made the proper choices to make sure they came back to me at their best,' said the infinitely talented creative. Speaking of the new body of work she crafted, Taylor said that Pierre 'd**n near EPed the album. He's so on top of it, and so involved, and so passionate in regards to the album.' The Mufasa: The Lion King actor is not just a sex symbol and on-screen gem; He also has an ear for music and appreciation for the little details. She shared, 'He would be like, 'Oh, yeah, that melody right there? That was fire.' I'm like, 'Thank you. I thought nobody was going to notice that,'' and gushed, 'He's a real big music head.' Furthermore, the Harlem-bred superstar shared, 'And just how hands-on he's been on this album with me has been really amazing to see. [Do] you ever sit back and be like, 'This person [doesn't] play about me'? I was like, 'Yeah, you need to be my leading man, because you understand every single song, every single emotion, [and] every single feeling, which [means] that on set, you're going to bring it.'' Taylor is already proving that she is an undeniable force on the big screen. Her movie roles include Tyler Perry's Madea's Big Happy Family and Straw, starring opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in One Battle After Another, and 2023's A Thousand and One, to name a few. Escape Room will join the year's catalogue of visual albums when it comes out later this summer, but Taylor is already imagining all the ways she wants fans to experience the world of her music. As told to GQ, she wants 'to eventually bring an album to Broadway.' But for now, 'I want my tours and my shows to feel like a musical on Broadway and not just a concert,' she said. With Escape Room, Taylor isn't just making a comeback; She's charting a new artistic experience. Blending music, film, and raw emotion, this project marks a new era of creative control. ‘Escape Room: Game Zero' A Book Review

Christopher Edge is one of those authors who offers slender novels packed full of ideas. It ought to be impossible to include the broad sweep of technology and science that he brings to his stories and get them under 200 pages. Even harder if you're aiming at a middle grade audience. Yet he has done it time and again. His latest novel, Escape Room: Game Zero, is a return to the world of a book that I reviewed in 2022, Escape Room . Whilst arguably not a direct sequel, it would still be better to read Game Zero after Escape Room. They share similar concepts that are more overt in Game Zero, and hidden in Escape Room. The rest of the review may spoil the first book, so if you don't want to know anything about it, stop reading now! Eden has followed the clues to a parking lot outside a huge warehouse. She is looking for the ultimate Escape Room experience. When the sky fills with birds, Eden finds herself transported into a new world. The World of 'The Escape;' a simulation filled with puzzles and challenges. Eden knows she's in a simulation. Soon, she meets Ted, who claims to be The Escape's first player. It's an open-world simulator created by his dad. Ted is testing it, wearing a VR helmet, sitting in his bedroom. Yet Eden is in the simulation. Ted doesn't believe she's anything other than an NPC, albeit a helpful one. How can this be? Together, the two try to solve the secrets of The Escape, while avoiding a terrifying monster called the 'Terra.' For Ted, being caught would simply mean game over, but what will happen to Eden if she dies inside the simulation? Once again, Christopher Edge has delivered an exciting and thought-provoking read. The concept of being trapped inside a computer game and being unsure of what will happen to you if you die is terrifying. The puzzles are intricate and well thought out, and while the twist is perhaps not as audacious as that in Escape Room, the end of the book will still get readers (young and old) thinking. As mentioned above, it's Edge's economy of words that sets him apart from similar authors and places him alongside Nosy Crow stablemate, Alastair Chisholm. Both writers pack so much into their books. Edge understands that attentions need to be grabbed and held. If you're going to write about a computer game, you need your story to be at least as compelling as Fortnite or Minecraft . Does Chisholm succeed? On balance, yes. For a start, my assertion is an oversimplification. My children love their screen time, but they also enjoy book time too. There is a time and place for both; gaming, after all, is just storytelling in a different form. In Game Zero , Edge manages to invoke the thrill of games. The excitement of playing them, with the added what-if frisson of the consequences of being pulled in to a digital environment. If you enjoy games and understand their structure, you'll enjoy the world Edge has created all the more. There's still much to enjoy here for non-gamers too but the gaming hook is a useful way to pull in children who perhaps might not pick up a book based on a different premise. Gamer or not, ruminaitons on the nature and capabilities of AI as well as thoughts on the depth of virtual worlds is sure to intrigue every reader. As a pair, the Escape Room books are fun adventure reads. Like many Christopher Edge books, they ask their readers to think a little deeper about reality and existence. It's invigorating stuff! If you would like to pick up a copy of Escape Room: Game Zero, you can do so here in the US (but not until February 2026) and here, in the UK – Available now! Teyana Taylor Makes the BET Awards Her ‘Escape Room' in Fiery Performance

After ending her five-year hiatus from music this month, Teyana Taylor took the stage at the BET Awards to perform her latest single 'Long Time' and a seemingly unreleased track on an artful and complex set. Her performance began in front of a backdrop of skyscrapers in flames. Wore red from head to toe as she glided across the stage to a new track where she sings, 'It's cold outside, but inside I'm on fire.' Then, actor Taraji P. Henson made a surprise appearance as a narrator, floating from near the ceiling in a floor-length white gown. Alluding to Taylor's forthcoming concept album Escape Room, Henson warned, 'Even love is something you must escape.' Next, Taylor performed 'Long Time' while floating herself, wearing a silver, robotic getup surrounded by long, loose cables. She commanded a troupe of over a dozen dancers on the ground while she danced in the air, and sparks flew from the ceiling. Of course, Taylor has had a long and sweeping career, from choreographing Beyoncé's 'Ring the Alarm' music video at just 16 years old, to signing with Pharrell's Star Trak imprint before a stint with Kanye West's G.O.O.D. music, too. She also has had a celebrated career as an actor, starring in the critically acclaimed film A Thousand and One in 2023 and with a turn next to Leonardo DiCaprio in One Battle After Another, coming soon. Last week, Taylor announced her fourth album, Escape Room, which is due out in August. It marks her first album in five years, following The Album from June 2020. Actors Aaron Pierre and Lakeith Stanfield star in the music video for the Escape Room single 'Long Time' that Taylor released last week. Jenna Bush And Halle Berry Present Teyana Taylor With Gold And Platinum Plaques

Source: Paul Archuleta / Getty Teyana Taylor was delivered the surprise of a lifetime during her appearance on Today With Jenna & Friends on Wednesday, June 4. While chatting to host Jenna Bush and celebrity guest co-host Halle Berry about her new album, Escape Room , Taylor displayed a look of shock when the duo informed her that two of her past albums, K.T.S.E. and The Album , had earned the RIAA's historic Gold award—a benchmark of success for artists in the music industry. 'This is like…okay. This is crazy,' Taylor said, as producers brought out the star's two gold plaques and a platinum award earned by the Harlemite. Holding Taylor's hand, Jenna told the multi-talented star she hoped the award would remind her of her incredible talent and reignite her passion for music. Back in 2020, the mother of two announced her retirement, saying she felt 'underappreciated' in the industry. 'You were about to retire, so I hope these two pieces of your art remind you of your incredible talent,' Jenna told the 34-year-old celeb. Shortly after her appearance, Taylor took to Instagram to share the sweet moment, thanking fans and God for perseverance. 'Father God, I thank you and I praise you in the name of Jesus,' she wrote. 'Thank You for showing patience with me, your kindness, grace & mercy every day. Your mercies never cease. Father God, please continue to instruct and teach me as I continue my faith walk. Thank you for keeping my head high to keep my crown from falling. I love you.' She added, 'Thank you for reminding me the wait is not punishment, it was preparation. Thank you to everyone involved with helping me bring these albums and songs to life, I am filled with much gratitude! WE PLATINUM & GOLD YALL.' The major award win comes as Taylor prepares to make her long-awaited return to music with Escape Room , her first album in five years since the critically acclaimed The Album in 2020. Set for release in August, the project marks the end of her musical hiatus and the beginning of a bold new era. As a taste of what's to come, Taylor dropped her new single 'Long Time' on June 4, accompanied by a smoldering music video featuring LaKeith Stanfield and her rumored boyfriend, Aaron Pierre. With raw vulnerability and fierce energy, Teyana transforms heartbreak into empowerment, delivering the biting refrain, 'Shoulda been walked out this bi—h a long time,' locking up Stanfield in a cage, before sharing a passionate kiss with Pierre in another scene. No official word yet on the feature lineup for the album, but based on the cinematic flair of her latest music video, it's clear Taylor is stepping into a bold new chapter—one that fuses her music with her passion for film. It's a fitting move for the multihyphenate, who is the star of Tyler Perry's new Netflix film, Straw , starring alongside Taraji P. Henson. We love to see the good sis stepping into this new chapter! Teyana Taylor's New Album Teaser Featuring Rumored Boo Aaron Pierre Has Internet Hot and Bothered!

Online chatter of Teyana Taylor and Aaron Pierre's potential romance hit a peak over the weekend thanks to a brand new teaser drop. And believe us when we tell you, it's almost too hot to handle! For a little bit of background, talks on the rumored relationship between the two sparked back March after the two posted pictures of them looking hella sexy. Even prior to that, the two were spotted seated together at an awards show looking a bit more than friendly. As a result, people began speculating on whether or not the two were really an item or if it was merely a sensual buildup to something bigger. Well, over the weekend, it seems people got their answer when Taylor dropped stellar visuals featuring Pierre and fellow actor LaKeith Stanfield in promotion for her forthcoming album, 'Escape Room.' In it, Taylor can be seen happily getting married to Stanfield's character and them experiencing marital bliss before things go awry. Enter Pierre (looking mighty fine) and things take a supremely sexy turn–specifically one that involves a shower. Fair warning, there's some great vibes here. You've been warned. Naturally, as the video began to circulate on social media, many were taken aback (positively and hilariously) at how good Taylor and Pierre look. 'An album where LaKeith and Aaron Pierre get to be the love interests I'm singing about. Oh, Teyana Taylor, you'll always be mother! This is manifestation,' wrote one user on X/Twitter. 'Oh look at me, I'm Teyana Taylor, I'm absolutely gorgeous, talented, killer body, gorgeous kids, fly af and I'm getting turned out by Aaron Pierre…,girl go to hell' said another. 'i keep coming back to this post bc what genuine fucking reason does aaron pierre have to be as fine as he is?? and he gets teyana too?? oh he is GREEDY,' one other user said. Added another, 'Teyana Taylor and Aaron Pierre want me DEAD.'
