Metallica's ‘Enter Sandman' Reaches An Incredible Longevity Milestone

Metallica's 'Enter Sandman' celebrates 700 weeks on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart, becoming ... More the band's longest-charting hit by far. LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - APRIL 12: (L-R) Robert Trujillo, James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, and Kirk Hammett of Metallica visit SiriusXM's 'The Howard Stern Show' at SiriusXM Studios on April 12, 2023 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo byfor SiriusXM) More than a decade ago, Billboard introduced the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart, and since then, Metallica has appeared on the tally fairly consistently. The beloved band has collected nearly two dozen smashes on the list, which measures the top-selling tracks in the hard rock style throughout the U.S. on platforms like iTunes and Amazon. Some of them have sometimes spent a year or more as bestsellers, and one title stands out as the group's most successful by far. 'Enter Sandman' has now racked up 700 weeks on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart. It's rare for any tune to earn hundreds of stays on any Billboard ranking – that kind of showing is usually reserved for albums – especially one focused entirely on pure purchases, which typically dwindle shortly after a track's initial promotional period. A handful of cuts in any genre manage to break that mold and become never-ending bestsellers — and 'Enter Sandman' is one of those lucky few. The tune is far and away Metallica's longest-running smash on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales list. No other track from the band has reached triple-digit frames yet. 'Nothing Else Matters' is close, though. As it returns this time around at No. 9, it earns its ninetieth stay on the tally. In time, it will surely become another 100-week winner, though by then, 'Enter Sandman' will likely have continued adding to its cumulative total. 'Enter Sandman' has been present on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales list for so long that it has spent more time on the roster than all of Metallica's other smashes combined. That roundup includes several tracks that lived on the list for months, such as 'One,' 'Master of Puppets,' 'Hardwired,' and several others. This week, Metallica nearly recaptures the throne on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales tally, as 'Enter Sandman' holds at No. 2. It's kept from ruling only by 'Fight Like a Girl,' the brand new collaboration between Evanescence and which debuts atop the ranking. No matter how fans consume hard rock music, Metallica's tune is a winner. 'Enter Sandman' also holds at its all-time high of No. 3 on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs tally this week.

Both 'Master of Puppets' and 'Lux Æterna' reached No. 2 in 2022, while 'Enter Sandman' stalled at No. 3 in 2021 despite its longevity as a chart mainstay. Notably, 'Enter Sandman' joins Disturbed's cover of Simon and Garfunkel's 'The Sound of Silence' (329 weeks) and 'Thunderstruck' by AC/DC (520 weeks) as the only other 100-plus-week inclusions in the Billboard chart's history. Metallica's Hit Single Reaches A New All-Time Peak, Decades After Its Release

Metallica's 'Enter Sandman' hits a new chart high, rising to No. 179 on the Billboard Global 200 — ... More decades after its release as a single. While the track was a hard rock smash at the time, nobody could have predicted how big or how long-lasting it would prove to be. The tune is still charting to this day, decades later, and is currently rising across a number of Billboard rankings in the U.S. – and around the world. The song even manages to climb to a new peak on a roster that wouldn't even be introduced until decades after Metallica first released one of its biggest singles. "Enter Sandman" finally reached the Billboard Global 200 for the first time just last week. The tally opened at No. 182 on the chart company's ranking of the most consumed songs worldwide. The list, which was introduced in 2020, blends both sales and streaming data to paint a picture of what humanity is listening to. This frame, the tune steps up three spaces to No. 179, which now stands as its loftiest placement yet. Metallica has only scored a pair of hits on the Billboard Global 200. In July 2022, "Master of Puppets" debuted and then went on to reach its all-time high of No. 20. It still stands not only as the group's highest-rising win, but also its longest-charting, as it has racked up four times as many stays on the global ranking as "Enter Sandman" has thus far. Looking at the U.S.-based charts, the Metallica smash climbs on two rankings focused solely on pure purchases. The track nearly returns to No. 1 on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart, as it vaults from No. 5 to No. 2. At the same time, it narrowly misses re-entering the top 10 on the Rock Digital Song Sales chart, landing at No. 11, up from No. 13. The cut is also a winner on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music, as "Enter Sandman" holds steady at No. 3 on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs chart, its all-time best showing.

Metallica's Smash Brings The Band To A Milestone For The First Time

Metallica's catalog is filled with the kind of rock smashes any band would be lucky to claim. The Grammy-winning group has produced more hits than most acts could ever dream of – especially in the hard rock space – but when it comes to pure purchases by American listeners, one title stands out above the rest. 'Enter Sandman' is a bestseller yet again in the United States. The track currently appears on a trio of Billboard rankings dedicated purely to sales, and this frame is especially notable for the tune. Metallica's timeless cut lifts one spot on the Rock Digital Song Sales chart, earning its one-hundredth stay on the list of the bestselling rock-only tracks in the country. The track is so massively popular that it has spent more time on the tally than Metallica's other 13 charting successes combined. The group's second-longest running entry is 'Master of Puppets,' which so far has managed just seven appearances on the list. While 'Enter Sandman' is easily Metallica's longest-charting release on the Rock Digital Song Sales roster, it doesn't stand as the band's highest-peaking. Both 'Master of Puppets' and 'Lux Æterna' peaked at No. 2 in 2022. 'Enter Sandman,' meanwhile, stalled at No. 3 in 2021 and has yet to surge any higher. Metallica is one of just three acts on the 15-spot Rock Digital Song Sales chart at the moment that claims a more-than-100-week winner. 'Enter Sandman' joins 'The Sound of Silence' by Disturbed (329 weeks) and 'Thunderstruck' by AC/DC, which this frame reaches 520 turns — exactly a decade — on the list. 'Enter Sandman' may be rising slightly on the Rock Digital Song Sales chart, but that's actually the American tally where it performs the worst. It appears at No. 3 on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs roster, and the tune also dips slightly to No. 5 on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales list.

Police Dispute That Jonathan Joss Was Victim of Hate Crime

The post Police Dispute That Jonathan Joss Was Victim of Hate Crime appeared first on Consequence. Police in San Antonio say they have found 'no evidence' to suggest King of the Hill voice actor Jonathan Joss was the victim of a hate crime. Joss was shot and killed on Sunday following a dispute with a neighbor. In a subsequent statement posted to Facebook, Joss' husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, claimed the shooting was a hate crime. He alleged that during their time living in the neighborhood, the couple had been 'harassed regularly by individuals who made it clear they did not accept our relationship' and had even received threats that their home would be set on fire. That home was, in fact, destroyed in a fire earlier this year. This past weekend, Joss and de Gonzales returned to San Antonio to check their mail when, according to de Gonzales, a neighbor began 'started yelling violent homophobic slurs at us' before opening fire and killing Joss. However, in a statement released Tuesday, the San Antonio Police Department said it has 'found no evidence to indicate that the [sic] Mr. Joss's murder was related to his sexual orientation. SAPD investigators handle these allegations very seriously and have thoroughly reviewed all available information. should any new evidence come to light, the suspect will be charged accordingly.' Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez was arrested and charged with Joss' murder. He reportedly admitted to police that he shot Joss, but a motive has not yet been established. The two apparently had a previous run-in in 2024, according to a police report. Several neighbors told that Joss frequently got into disputes with people in the neighborhood over issues involving his dogs, trash, property, and traffic. However, another neighbor told News 4 San Antonio that Joss and de Gonzales were regularly harassed by neighbors 'because they were gay.' According to San Antonio Express-News, police had been called to Joss' San Antonio home a total of 74 times since January — including 11 responses for disturbances, nine for shootings, six for fires, six mental health-related calls, and five welfare checks. There is also some discrepancy surrounding the cause of the fire that destroyed Joss' home. In a previous interview with the San Antonio Express-News, Joss himself stated that the blaze may have started after he lit a barbecue grill inside the house. 'I told them it was my fault,' he said at the time. 'Very easily, it could have started because of my stupidity.' Joss voiced John Redcorn on King of the Hill from seasons 2 to 13, and had recorded lines for the series' upcoming revival set to air on Hulu this summer. He also notably played Chief Ken Hotate on the NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation.
