The announcement comes ahead of the 50th anniversary of her passing, which is being commemorated throughout 2025 as the official Year of Umm Kulthum. The musical, set to premiere in September 2025, is being developed in collaboration with See Cinema Productions, with support from the Commercial International Bank (CIB) as the project's official sponsor. According to producers, the production will blend theatrical storytelling with modern technology, aiming to reintroduce Umm Kulthum's cultural significance to younger audiences while honouring her timeless influence. The project was unveiled during a press conference attended by producers Hany Naguib and Ahmed Fahmy, director Ahmed Fouad, and legal advisor Dr. Hossam Lotfy. Present were also the heirs of Umm Kulthum and legendary composers Mohamed Abdel Wahab, Baligh Hamdi, and Riad El Sonbaty—key collaborators in her iconic musical journey. While few details have been released about casting or format, the musical is expected to be one of several cultural initiatives rolled out as part of the national commemoration. The Year of Umm Kulthum includes concerts, exhibitions, and educational programmes designed to highlight her legacy as not just a singer, but a symbol of Arab identity and artistic excellence.

It will be the largest theatrical work dedicated to the legendary singer. The play will showcase key moments in Umm Kulthum's life and their impact on her, chronicling her journey from a village in Daqahliya to becoming the most celebrated singer in Egypt and the Arab World and achieving international acclaim. El Adl underscored the significance of this monumental work, noting that it is the first musical play to portray Umm Kulthum's life. He highlighted the incorporation of modern technology to engage younger audiences with her music and to broaden the reach of her timeless artistry. Umm Kulthum musical is directed by Ahmed Fouad and features music composed by Khaled Al Kammar and Ehab Abd Elwahed. It is produced by El Adl Group Studios and Sea Cinema Productions (producers Hani Naguib and Ahmed Fahmy). The Commercial International Bank has also been announced as the primary and official sponsor for this grand play, which is scheduled to premiere this September at the Mövenpick Hotel's Theater of the Egyptian Media Production City.
