Mirwaiz Farooq calls Israel a rogue state, threat to global peace
Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday condemned Israel's attack on Iran, saying the Jewish state has become a "rogue state and a huge threat to world peace". "Another distressing news that came this morning is the bombing of Iran by Israel in which many civilians, including women and children, have been killed. Besides, senior Iranian military personnel have also been assassinated. This is highly condemnable," he said addressing the Friday congregation at Jamia Masjid here. The Hurriyat Conference chairman said while "perpetuating genocide on hapless Palestinians and getting away with it", Israel is now putting the whole of Middle East in "peril". "It has become a rogue state and a huge threat to world peace," he added. The separatist leader said it is the moral duty of the UN and all world nations to put pressure on Israel to stop the "genocide and war in Gaza and prevent Israel from targeting other nations". "The people of Jammu and Kashmir stand with Palestinians and Iranians against Israeli aggression on them," he added. On not allowing Eid prayers at Eidgah and Jamia Masjid, and his house arrest on Eid day, the Mirwaiz said for the last seven years, "this action of the rulers has prevented the Muslims of Kashmir from their basic right to practise religious rites". "I want to ask the authorities, especially the LG sahab as he is the head... while he extends Eid greetings to people and talks about the spirit of Eid and Islam in a very reverent manner, why are the Muslims of Kashmir prevented from offering Eid prayers at Eidgah or even at the Jama Masjid? What is the reason? The authorities should spell out their fears and apprehensions if that is what prevents them or is it to punish Kashmiris?" he asked. The Hurriyat Conference chairman said the gathering at Jamia Masjid strongly condemns "these inhuman diktats". "The reality is that oppressive measures are very much in place and the so-called narrative of normalcy post abrogation of 370 is a myth. There is no political or administrative space available to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, it is shrinking by the day," he added. The separatist leader further said the elected government too has "failed" to stand up and safeguard the rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. "They cannot forever hide behind that they have limited authority and wait for nothing or all till statehood is restored. People rightfully have expectations of them to deliver," he added. Bakrid prayers held at Eidgah grounds
Rajamahendravaram: The Eidgah grounds in Rajamahendravaram witnessed a grand and traditional celebration of Bakrid (Eid-ul-Fitr) on Saturday, with thousands of Muslims offering special prayers in a spirit of devotion and unity. The congregational prayers were led by Royal Mosque Imam Abdul Hafeez Khan, who delivered special sermons and guided the community in collective supplication. The event was graced by several dignitaries, including Rajamahendravaram city MLA Adireddy Srinivas, State Setti Balija Corporation Chairman Kudupudi Sattibabu, and TDP leader Dondapati Satyam Babu, who conveyed warm Bakrid wishes to the Muslims. Prominent community representatives such as Eidgah Honorary President Amanullah Baig, President Syed Adil Arifuddin, Royal Mosque Trust Board President Sheikh Abdul Kareem, and trustees Danasha Vali, Md Moosa, Mujan Ibrahim, former District Waqf Board Chairman, Md Kareem Khan, Congress leader Abdullah Shareef, and TDP leaders Meera Shareef, Rafeeq Raja, Mujeeb, Ghafoor, Imran, Maulana Qutubuddin, Ali Mohiuddin, Khan, Mahbub, and others were in attendance. Eid celebrated with unity, devotion
1 2 Trichy: Across central and southern Tamil Nadu, people came together to mark Eid-al-Adha (Bakrid) with prayer, kindness, and a sense of community. From early morning, Muslims across Trichy and Madurai gathered to offer prayers, share meals, and help those in need — reflecting the spirit of sacrifice, gratitude, and togetherness that the festival stands for. More than 300 people assembled at the Eidgah grounds in Cantonment and Uzhavar Sandhai in Thennur to offer prayers around 7 am. Common prayers were also held at several mosques in areas such as Pallakarai and E. Pudur. Draped in a mosaic of hijabs — florals, pastels, deep tones — women stood shoulder to shoulder, offering heartfelt duas. From young girls mimicking elders to elderly women whispering quiet prayers, the scenes captured the emotional depth and spirit of Eid. As part of the festival, Qurbani, the sacred sacrifice of a goat, was performed. After the sacrifice, a portion of the meat is traditionally donated to the poor and needy. Families also invited friends and relatives to their homes to celebrate the occasion. The festival was marked by the exchange of sweets and delicacies, especially biryani, with neighbours and loved ones. "It's a tradition every year that our friend invites us for biryani at his place during the festival," said Sairam from Karumandapam. As Eid is a public holiday, Trichy hotels experienced a surge in demand for biryani, particularly through online food delivery platforms.

Eid celebrated with devotion across Braj region
Eid-al-Azha was celebrated with devotion and enthusiasm across the Braj region on Saturday. In Agra, the world heritage monument Taj Mahal was open free of charge for two hours in the morning—from 7 am to 9 am—to allow worshippers to offer namaz at the mosque within its premises. Security was stepped up to ensure smooth conduct of the celebrations. Police teams patrolled the lanes around Jama Masjid, with deputy commissioner of police (City) Sonam Kumar leading a round in the Old City area and inspecting the Taj Mahal premises for preparedness. A large number of namazis gathered at the Taj Mahal and stood in neat rows to offer prayers. Following tradition, the Archaeological Survey of India had ordered free entry for a two-hour window on Eid morning. Impressive gatherings were also witnessed at Jama Masjid and Eidgah, where tents were set up and a cleanliness drive was undertaken by the local body. Those attending exchanged Eid greetings after offering prayers. In Mathura, Muslims gathered at the Shahi Eidgah mosque amid tight security. Peaceful celebrations were reported from Etah, Kasganj, and Hathras in the Aligarh division. In Firozabad and Mainpuri, there was a good turnout of namazis. A large number of people offered namaz at Shah Jamal Eidgah in Aligarh, where city mufti Mohammad Hamid Khalid led the dua (prayers) for peace and harmony. Traffic restrictions were in place across Aligarh for the festival. No heavy vehicles were allowed to enter the city from 5 am onwards, and the city was divided into seven zones under a sector scheme to manage the day's proceedings smoothly.

Contribute now Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir authorities have barred congregational Eid prayers from taking place at the Eidgah grounds in Srinagar today (June 7) without specifying any reason in writing. The chairman of moderate Hurriyat Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was also reportedly put under house arrest. In a post on X, Mirwaiz, who is also the chief cleric of Kashmir, said that the Jamia Masjid, Kashmir's biggest mosque in the summer capital Srinagar, was also locked by the authorities where the Eid prayer was scheduled to be organised on Saturday morning. Mirwaiz said that the grand mosque was closed on the eve of Eid for the seventh consecutive year following the reading down of Article 370 when Jammu and Kashmir was bifurcated and demoted into two Union territories by the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP)-led Union government. 'In a Muslim-majority region, Muslims are deprived of their fundamental right to pray — even on their most important religious occasion celebrated across the world! What a shame on those who rule over us, and on those elected by the people who choose to remain silent as our rights are trampled over, again and again,' he said. Mirwaiz told The Wire that security forces barricaded the entry to his house on Saturday morning without any official intimation, 'They didn't allow me to come out to lead the Eid prayers. It is an attack on the basic religious right of the Muslims of Kashmir,' he said. No permission In a statement on Friday (June 6), Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid, the managing body of the historic mosque, said that the authorities didn't give permission for organising the Eid prayers at the Eidgah ground where thousands of people from different parts of Kashmir gathered to participate in the congregational prayers when J&K was a state. The managing body's statement said that it 'deeply regrets' the denial of permission for organising the prayer at the Eidgah ground which was planned 'in keeping with the longstanding Islamic tradition and the collective religious sentiment of the people'. The statement said that due to the refusal, the congregational prayers were going to be organised at Jamia Masjid on Saturday morning where Mirwaiz would deliver sermon 'on the philosophy and spirit of Eid and Qurbani (sacrifice)'. 'Auqaf urges all worshippers to attend the Eid prayers at Jama Masjid in large numbers and partake in the message of unity, sacrifice, and submission to the will of Allah (SWT) that Eid-ul-Adha embodies,' the statement said. However, the 14th century architectural marvel in Nowhatta locality of downtown Srinagar was closed on Saturday with police and paramilitary troopers turning away the worshippers who tried to gather for the Eid prayers while Mirwaiz was put under house-detention. This is not the first time that the authorities have locked Kashmir's largest mosque for worshippers on the eve of Eid without specifying any reason in writing. After J&K was bifurcated and split into two union territories, authorities have not allowed the Anjuman to organise congregational prayers at the mosque on sacred days of the Islamic calendar. On March 31, the mosque was locked by authorities on Eid-ul-Fitr while Mirwaiz was also put under house arrest. Authorities have also closed the mosque on the occasions of important islamic events including on Fridays, Shab-e-Qadr and Jummat-ul-Vida. J&K's security administration, which is under the Union home ministry, has unofficially cited the fears of law and order breakdown in the sensitive downtown locality which has been an epicentre of anti-India and pro-freedom protests to justify the ban of congregational prayers. Meanwhile, Eid prayers were held in the rest of the Union territory with thousands of people congregating in major shrines and mosques, including at the Asar-e-Sharief in Hazratbal of Srinagar, Khanqah-e-Moula in Budgam district's Chrari Sharief and other mosques and religious places on Saturday to mark the occasion. Following the reading down of Article 370 in 2019, the BJP-led Waqf board of J&K has taken over the management of most shrines and mosques in the Union territory, a decision which has been criticised by the Mirwaiz and other political parties.
