Carlos Tevez scores FOUR Soccer Aid goals as Premier League pantomime villain is booed at Old Trafford years on from acrimonious Man United exit
Carlos Tevez scored four goals in 15 minutes — and was widely booed after all of them — during Sunday's Soccer Aid game at Old Trafford. The 41-year-old is no stranger to the Theatre of Dreams, having spent two seasons at Manchester United between 2007 and 2009. Tevez enjoyed great success with United, winning six trophies — including two Premier League titles and one UEFA Champions League. But he forfeited his status as a United fan favourite by transferring to rivals Manchester City in 2009. There were clearly many United supporters in the crowd on Sunday because Tevez was roundly booed when his name was read out over the speaker system prior to his introduction as a second-half substitute. England were leading Tevez's World XI 2-0 at this point. But then came a flood of goals, with each of the ex-Argentina forward's strikes roundly jeered. Former professionals Joe Hart and Edwin van der Sar had kept goal in the first 45 minutes, but they were replaced by celebrity stoppers Nicky Byrne and Paddy McGuinness at the interval. Comedian McGuinness was no match for the clinical finishing of Tevez, who scored 84 goals in 201 games during his Premier League career. Tevez's four goals drew the World XI level at 4-4 before celebrity Big Zuu netted a late winner. Wayne Rooney had earlier opened the scoring in front of the Stretford End, before ex-Lionesses star Toni Duggan doubled the home side's lead. Jermain Defoe then bagged a brace in a second half that belonged to Tevez.

Westlife star Nicky Byrne makes incredible Soccer Aid double save… then somehow avoids red card moments later
WESTLIFE star Nicky Byrne made a sensational double save to deny Jermain Defoe and Steven Bartlett at Soccer Aid. But just moments later the Irishman could have been sent off for a clear handball. 2 2 The Irishman, 46, came on for former Manchester United stopper Edwin van der Sar between the sticks at half-time. And the hitmaker was immediately called into action. England star Aaron Lennon rolled back the years to race down the right flank before squaring for former Tottenham team-mate Jermain Defoe. The legendary striker looked certain to score... only to be denied by Byrne's legs. Bartlett, 32, pounced on the rebound, but Byrne pounced up to deny the entrepreuneur. Barely a minute later, Defoe had another chance to score - sparking a moment of controversy. With Byrne having raced miles off his line, Defoe looked to flick the ball beyond the stopper. The Westlife star instinctively blocked the ball with his arm - sparking complaints from the England front man. Prem ref Rebecca Welch immediately blew her whistle, but only brandished a yellow card, much to Byrne's relief.

Man United should KEEP Antony, insists club legend - despite £86m flop revealing he hit 'rock bottom' at Old Trafford
Manchester United legend Edwin Van der Sar has called on the club to offer flop Antony another chance at life at Old Trafford. The 25-year-old struggled at United and failed to live up to the £86million fee the Red Devils paid Ajax for his services in 2022, providing just 12 goals and five assists in 96 games. He also endured a torrid time on a personal level and even revealed that he considered retirement while at the club. Antony is contracted until 2027 but was unable to fit in under either Erik ten Hag or Ruben Amorim and was duly sent out on loan in January. However, at Real Betis the Brazilian was rejuvenated, and went on to become one of the club's stars of the second half of the season. He scored 14 times in 26 games in just five months with Betis and earned rave reviews from fans and players alike as he earned a recall to the Brazil national team. Van der Sar, who won four Premier League titles and the Champions League in his six-year stint at Old Trafford, believes his former side should give the winger a second chance at proving himself. 'They're on the right track by signing a more experienced striker, maybe with another one on the way,' he told The Sun. 'The two players they signed in the winter break were good, so they should be fine if they give faith to the manager. 'Maybe [Alejandro] Garnacho's going to go, I would say bring Antony back, but I'm not sure if that's realistic.' Antony's performances at Betis even led club legend Joaquin to joke that he would kidnap the forward to keep him at the club. Despite Van der Sar's suggestion, a return to United appears unlikely for Antony. After returning to the Brazil squad, he admitted he 'hit rock' bottom at United. 'I started to doubt, even in myself,' he said. 'But, my family always told me to stay calm, because the process is painful and people must accept it. Today, I understand it better after everything I went through. I am grateful for that experience. 'I was hitting rock bottom without any hope, despite continuing to do my part for the club. Antony has been widely tipped to leave the club this summer, having joined in Ten Hag's first transfer window for £86m, and has so far failed to deliver on that price tag.

‘Bring him back' – Antony needs another chance at Man Utd under Ruben Amorim, says club legend
EDWIN VAN DER SAR wants Man Utd flop Antony to be given another chance at Manchester United next season under Ruben Amorim. The £86million signing from Ajax started brightly at Old Trafford before his form dropped off a cliff and he became a scapegoat for manager Erik Ten Hag's underwhelming stint in charge. 3 3 In his second season, he lost his place in the Man Utd side before being shipped out on loan to Real Betis where he starred in LaLiga and in a run to the Conference League final before being beaten by Chelsea. Betis bosses wanted to make the move permanent after he scored eight goals and got five assists under Manuel Pellegrini. That included playing a starring role against Real Madrid, with club legend Joaquin even joking that he would provide the car for Antony's kidnapping if need be to allow him to stay in Seville for another year. Antony also made it clear he would love to stay at Betis, insisting, "I love the club, the city, everything. The sunshine, the people, the food: it reminds me of Brazil. "And most importantly, I've found myself. I wasn't playing much [at United ]. I needed to be happy in myself.' Unfortunately for all involved, that move wasn't able to be made permanent given the transfer fee that Man Utd would demand for their expensive asset, which led to Antony saying a tearful goodbye to the Beticos. "From heaven to hell. The ball stopped going in, the joy faded, my world darkened, and I began to doubt myself, my talent, and my passion for the game. "That's when football gave me one last gift: Real Betis. From the first step into this club, I felt something different." Now the Brazilian's next step remains unclear, with rumours circling that Antony could be rescued from his Man Utd nightmare by ex-boss Erik Ten Hag at Bayer Leverkusen. But former United goalkeeper Edwin Van der Sar thinks that the winger has done enough to earn a second chance at the Red Devils. "Luckily, I'm not in a position anymore to dictate at a club which kind of players have to come, but they're on the right track by signing a more experienced striker, maybe with another one on the way. "The two players they signed in the winter break were good, so they should be fine if they give faith to the manager. "Maybe [Alejandro] Garnacho's going to go, I would say bring Antony back, but I'm not sure if that's realistic."
