Primark opening first-ever 'Home' store in England this summer

The new Primark Home store will open in Manchester this summer and will feature an expanded range of homeware and lifestyle items This summer, Primark is set to delight fans of interior design with the unveiling of its first standalone Home store in England, located at Trafford Palazzo in Manchester. Following the successful launch of its inaugural Home store in Belfast earlier this year, the new two-storey outlet, spanning 11,900 sq ft, will be the first of its kind in England. Primark has said that the store will showcase the best of the retailer's interior range, all under one roof. While Primark has not yet confirmed a specific opening date, it assures customers that the doors will open this summer. A spokesperson shared: "Manchester shoppers can discover an expanded range of homeware and lifestyle essentials to give their homes the glow-up they deserve." ‌ The range includes high-quality staples such as cotton bedding and towels, soft furnishings, small furniture pieces, and unique ceramics. Keeping pace with the latest homeware trends, from teddy bear bedding and delicate bow decor to seafood-inspired tableware, Primark Home blends style, comfort and affordability to help shoppers transform their houses into homes. ‌ The new store will also feature Primark's recently launched Edit, described as a sophisticated collection of home products including stylish tableware, plush towels and luxury home fragrances. Additionally, it will house a dedicated Travel Shop, aimed at assisting customers in preparing for holidays throughout the year with a selection of chic and practical travel necessities, reports the Liverpool Echo. Paul Baldwin, Trading Director for Home at Primark, commented: "Our mission is simple: to make it easy for everyone to create a home they love, without breaking the bank. Customer reaction to our first Primark Home store in Belfast has been really positive, and we can't wait to bring this exciting new concept to Great Britain later this summer. "Homes have become more than just places to live, they're an extension of our personalities, so whether it's soft furnishings, statement tableware, or smart storage solutions you're after, our range has something for every style and budget." Mark Whittaker, Managing Director at Peel Retail and Leisure, expressed his enthusiasm: "The opening of Primark Home at Trafford Palazzo, in the heart of Trafford City, is an incredibly exciting moment for us. Not only because we are the first destination in Great Britain to do so, but the opening is going to be adding a leading concept to our already unique mixture of immersive shopping and leisure experiences. Primark Home will have something for everyone, and we look forward to the store opening in summer." Primark Home's debut at Trafford Palazzo marks its first venture in England. It is set to enhance the existing array of Primark stores throughout Greater Manchester, including those at Trafford Palazzo and Manchester Market Street, and extend to Oldham, Bury, and Wigan. ‌ Whilst the standalone Home store promises a fresh shopping experience, customers can still savour the extensive variety of Primark's full collections at its main Trafford Palazzo outlet, situated just a stone's throw away. This includes the newly launched Primark Café featuring Disney's Stitch, available for a limited period only. For those preferring to shop nearer to home, shoppers can use Primark's Click and Collect service, which is now accessible in all stores across the UK. After browsing the range of women's, men's, kids ', baby and home Click and Collect products on Primark's website, customers can then select their chosen store to be able to add them to their virtual basket. ‌ Once all items are added to your bag and checked out online, choose your preferred collection day for free and then collect from a dedicated collection point at your nominated store. As soon as your order is ready to collect, you'll be notified via email and text message, and you can make your way to your chosen store for collection. Microsoft to Add Lightweight Command-Line Text Editor 'Edit' to Windows 11

Microsoft is preparing to bring a new command-line text editor called Edit to Windows 11, which is made for users who want a simple and lightweight tool for editing text files. Edit is now available on GitHub for anyone to download, and Microsoft says it will soon be included by default in Windows 11 as the primary text editor for command-line environments such as PowerShell and Command Prompt, as reported by Windows Latest. But this does not mean Edit will replace Notepad; instead, it will be accessible directly from the Terminal by typing 'edit.' Edit is made to be an easy and efficient option, with a file size of just a couple of hundred KBs. It lets users perform basic text editing tasks, like opening and saving files, finding and replacing, word wrapping, and jumping to specific lines. It's ideal for users who want a minimal tool that works entirely within the Terminal, without the extra functions and size of more complex editors like Notepad or Word. Microsoft says Edit fills a gap for those who quickly view or change text files. To use Edit now, users can download it from GitHub or install it through the Winget package manager.

Microsoft Introduces Lightweight ‘Edit on Windows' CLI Text Editor at Build 2025

At its recently concluded Build 2025 conference, Microsoft introduced Edit on Windows, a new open-source command-line text editor built to streamline the developer experience. The tool will soon be available through the Windows Insider Program and is designed for quick and efficient file editing directly within the terminal. By simply typing 'edit' in the command prompt, developers can now launch the editor without needing to switch to another app. Much like traditional terminal editors such as vim, Edit on Windows allows users to open, edit, and manage files inside the command line — but with a modern, simplified twist. 'What motivated us to build Edit was the need for a default CLI text editor in 64-bit versions of Windows,' explained Christopher Nguyen, product manager of Windows Terminal. '32-bit versions of Windows ship with the MS-DOS Edit or, but 64-bit versions do not have a CLI editor installed inbox.' The new editor is designed to be intuitive and user-friendly. At under 250KB in size, Edit is lightweight and supports essential features like word wrapping, find and replace, match case, and regular expressions. All menu functions have key bindings, and developers can switch between multiple files using the Ctrl + P shortcut. Importantly, Microsoft sought to create a modeless experience to avoid the confusion associated with modal editors like vim. 'Because we wanted to avoid this for a built-in default editor, we decided that we wanted a modeless editor for Windows,' Nguyen said, referencing the famous developer meme: 'how do I exit vim?' Microsoft is also making changes beyond the text editor. The company announced that it is rebranding its Windows Dev Home to Advanced Windows Settings. 'Advanced Windows Settings allow developers to easily control and personalize their Windows experience,' said Windows chief Pavan Davuluri. Rather than launching as a separate app, these settings will now appear as part of the main Windows 11 settings interface. Notable features include enabling GitHub control details within File Explorer. Together, these updates reinforce Microsoft's ongoing commitment to improving the developer environment within Windows.

Microsoft open-sources a command-line text editor and more at Build

At its Build 2025 conference, Microsoft open-sourced a number of apps and tools, including a new command-line text editor for Windows called Edit. Open source software may not earn the company direct revenue, but it can serve as a form of market research — and a funnel to paid applications and services. By contributing to the open-source community, Microsoft gains valuable knowledge and product suggestions, as well as ideas for future directions. Edit, which will be installed by default on Windows via the Windows Insider Program beginning this summer, will allow developers to edit files directly in the command line by running the command "edit." The goal is to minimize unnecessary context switching and let developers stay in their current flows, says Microsoft. Elsewhere, Microsoft is open-sourcing GitHub Copilot in VS Code, its assistive coding extension for Visual Studio Code. Over the next few months, AI-powered capabilities from the GitHub Copilot extension will migrate to the VS Code open-source repository, says Microsoft. Lastly, Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL), the feature in Windows that allows users to run a Linux environment directly on their Windows system, will be open-sourced, says Microsoft. This will allow developers to access the source code and make any changes they may need for a particular use case.
