Ford F-150 Raptor vs Ram 1500 RHO: Super Truck Shootout

Both of these trucks have (or had) monstrous supercharged V8 versions, but we're taking a close look at the turbocharged 6-cylinder powertrains. One outguns the other. We live in a time where ridiculously powerful off-road pickup trucks are faster than many sports cars from a decade ago. These trucks are built to withstand serious abuse on almost any terrain and demand more, while also being driven daily and coddling the occupants in high-tech comfort. At the very top of the heap, the Ford F-150 Raptor (which started the recent trend) and Ram 1500 RHO (a more refined/less powerful Ram TRX) jockey for top billing. The Ford F-150 Raptor R is a different animal, and still leads the herd – but it's not as comfortable as the F-150 Raptor with the twin-turbo V6. It competes against the Ram RHO, which also has a twin-turbo I6, and they're so closely matched that it's difficult to judge each vehicle based on features; it has to be down to the brass tacks: performance. I've taken both trucks off-road, and I've driven both as commuters, and one edges out the other. 2025 Ford F-150 Raptor – $78,540 MSRP Ford F-150 Raptor Like the Raptor R, I am also excluding the Raptor 37 option, which not only comes with larger 37-inch tires but also has upgraded underpinnings, making it a substantially more expensive vehicle. I'm spotlighting the 'base model' F-150 Raptor, which comes with 35-inch BFG KO2 tires and a 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6, which makes 450 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque. Paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission, all F-150 Raptors are 4x4s, can tow up to 8,200 lbs, and have a maximum payload of 1,400 lbs. EPA estimated numbers for the Raptor V6 show 14 mpg city and 18 mpg highway. Internally, the Raptor has seen some welcome upgrades promoting better tech, more comfort, and good ergonomics. The F-150 Raptor features a 12-inch digital instrument screen and a 12-inch touchscreen with the SYNC 4 infotainment system, which is a huge upgrade over the previous model, but it can be a bit finicky from time to time. While it has standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, it kicked me off the system a few times. 2024 Ford F-150 Raptor Autoblog Newsletter Autoblog brings you car news; expert reviews and exciting pictures and video. Driving the 2025 Ford F-150 Raptor on and off-road Ford managed to build a pickup that feels precise in just about any environment it drives on or through. It has an augmented engine note, which isn't obnoxious, and it amplifies the driving excitement for many. Power is quick on tap, but there is a bit of a lag. It's most notable when you're pushing on/off throttle during slow-going off-road obstacles; otherwise, it's always on full boil, and the thing flies. The F-150 Raptor comes with seven selectable drive modes: Normal, Sport, Tow/Haul, Slippery, Off-Road, Baja, and Rock Crawl. The Raptor's standard suspension consists of Fox Racing sport-tuned shock absorbers with Live Valve Technology. Upgraded suspension systems are available and standard on higher trims. Ford retains the front coil and rear leaf spring setup, but the ride never feels compromised. Ford F-150 Raptor Roush SVT Thanks to many aluminum body components, the Raptor's approximate 5,700-lb weight is fairly impressive. It's light on its toes on and off-road. In fact, its easy-to-toss-about nature is one of its greatest attributes. Compared to many beefy trucks, the base model F-150 Raptor dances. Still, one of my biggest gripes is its artificial-feeling steering setup; it doesn't feel that connected to me. Yes, it's not perfect, but no one can deny how amazing it is on any terrain. 2024 Ford F-150 Raptor 2025 Ram 1500 RHO – $69,995 MSRP 2025 Ram 1500 RHO The Ram 1500 RHO is more than a TRX without a HEMI V8. Ram did its homework and made major improvements in its suspension, driving dynamics, and tech. The end result is a better truck in almost every measurable way. It still has an 8-speed automatic transmission, and 4×4 comes standard, but it also comes with a new twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six that makes 540 hp and 521 lb-ft of torque. Yes, those numbers are higher than the Raptor's, but much lower than the TRX's. Still, this is a more efficient powertrain that's lighter and easier to drive as a daily. The RHO has an 8,380 max towing rating and a 1,520 max payload rating. It's EPA-rated at 14 mpg city and 16 mpg highway. Ram's RHO comes standard with a 14.5-inch touchscreen display and a 12-inch digital cluster display, while a 10.25-inch front passenger touchscreen is available as an option. Seating, cockpit design, and overall ergonomics are a step ahead of the Ford, although some find the controls to be cluttered. Material quality is the best in class, and you get a lot of tech for the buck. Still, I found controlling the audio (yes, it has wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto) to be a pain, especially jumping between XM and my iPhone. 2025 Ram 1500 RHO — Source: Ram Driving the Ram 1500 RHO on and off-road With coil-springs and air suspension backed up by Bilstein BlackHawk e2 adaptive performance dampers, it's hard to find fault in Ram's choice here. It is not only much better than the TRX it's based on, but it also outguns just about everyone as an all-around suspension system. There are nine drive modes: Mud/Sand, Rock, Baja, Valet, Auto, Tow, Snow, Sport, and Custom. While the RHO is significantly heavier (between 6,200 – 6,700 lbs) than the base Raptor, it feels slightly less tossable and thirstier than the Raptor. With that being said, it is planted and very easy to control on every terrain, thanks to better steering. 2025 Ram 1500 RHO While both trucks are as wide as Heavy Duty trucks, the Ram's girth seemed easier for me to visualize when I drove through the drive-through bank teller. The cameras, sightlines, and outward vision all seemed slightly better than the Raptor's. High-speed cornering in both is ill-advised on concrete, but the Ram 1500 RHO seems slightly more planted, while the Raptor has less bulk to shift. I found that the RHO feels far less ponderous off-road than the old TRX, and it makes for a better vehicle for climbing, shooting dunes, and blasting trails. It's so easy to make it go where you want with confidence. On the street, that feeling of easy-to-control mass makes for a fun commuter. With that being said, the turbo has more noticeable lag, and its engine sound, along with its dreadful exhaust note, sounds industrial. It's the only thing that makes me long for the TRX's musical swagger. 2025 Ram 1500 RHO — Source: Ram Final thoughts Both of these trucks look super cool with their overexaggerated fenders, lifted suspensions, and beefy tires. The Ford F-150 Raptor is more efficient, and the consumer has a ton of choices for upgrades, but the Ram 1500 RHO is far less expensive, tows more, hauls more, and is more rewarding to drive, with the exception of the engine noise. Choosing between the two wasn't easy, but I think the Ram 1500 RHO is the winner here, especially given what you get for your dough.

Ford brings Tourneo Courier to Fieldays

Making its New Zealand debut at Fieldays 2025, Ford's Tourneo Courier is a compact multipurpose vehicle. Ford says it is designed to take active families away on weekends, or for work and road trips. The company adds that the multi-activity vehicle packs SUV style and practical features into a city-friendly footprint. But it can still swallow five people and all their gear. Powering the 4.34m long five-door is a 1.0-litre EcoBoost turbopetrol delivering 92kW of power and 200Nm of torque. It features an active grille shutter for optimised efficiency. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is standard. Designed to stand out The Active series' two-tone paint, machined alloy wheel faces and body cladding were all part of the original design. An upright grille with integrated headlamps gives a sense of width (1800mm) and stance. SUV influences wrap a roomy cabin with large windows. Amko Leenarts, Design director, Ford, Europe commented: 'We designed Tourneo Courier to help customers get the most out of life…and the exterior design expresses that 'no-nonsense' character. 'The SUV-inspired design is rugged outside and roomy inside, providing a tough, eager partner for our customers' busy lifestyles' he added. A versatile cabin The interior's digital experiences are powered by a built-in modem as standard which enables wireless software updates for multiple modules. Inside is an eight-inch touchscreen with SYNC 4 infotainment which places music, podcasts, navigation and many vehicle settings within easy reach. A digital cluster replaces analogue dials. Drivers can view their speed, traffic signs, navigation alerts and other vehicle information simultaneously, and configure the side displays to suit. A wireless charging pad, USB ports and standard wireless smartphone hook up mean occupants can stay connected. Drivers who use a phone for navigation, music or hands-free calls can clip it to the built-in phone mounting fin, making it safe but visible. There are multiple storage sites across the dash and doors. Packed with practicality Tourneo Courier's interior is designed for space and practicality, with generous room for passengers and luggage. The large tailgate keeps rain off, facilitating loading and unloading. Cubbyholes built into the side panels are designed for muddy boots or loose items. With the rear seats in place or flipped, Tourneo Courier offers 708/1656 litres of luggage space, respectively. Meantime, a three-seat rear bench offers generous head- and shoulder room. The seats are split 60/40, and fold and flip to help carry items up to 1.4m long. Tourneo Courier Active is designed to suit outdoors adventures. Seats are part-trimmed in soft technical fabric that's easy to clean, isn't affected by wet clothes, and doesn't feel cold to touch in winter. Large sliding side doors make it easy to jump aboard or strap young children into their car seats. They also avoid damaging or denting other cars when opening the rear door in tight parking spaces. An efficient enjoyable drive Confident driving dynamics, and a responsive powertrain make Tourneo Courier easy to drive in town or on the open road. Utilising Ford's latest compact vehicle platform, every Tourneo Courier comes with a comprehensive range of driver assistance systems including lane keeping, pre-collision assist, traffic sign recognition, intelligent speed assist (keeps speed under the posted speed limit), driver alert and cruise control. The Tourneo Courier is available to order today, with arrivals scheduled for Q4 this year. The Tourneo Courier Active goes on sale for $55,990 plus ORCs. Ford Transit Courier As part of a double act at Fieldays, Ford'sTransit Courier is also on show, with first examples due later this year. Dubbed Transit Courier DCiV, it features a large, flexible cargo area, five-seat configuration, and a 'fold and tumble' rear seat that increases the rear load space. The load area and cabin design include customer-led features to boost productivity and comfort while at work. Multiple driver assistance technologies have made Transit Courier the first van to receive a Five-Star safety award from EuroNCAP using the latest protocols. Paul Heagerty, Ford Transit marketing manager, said: 'The all-new Transit Courier delivers the capability of a larger van while keeping the footprint compact. 'It's smart both inside and out and will be an ace in the hand for NZ businesses.' The Transit Courier uses the same powertrain as Tourneo Courier. It too is available to order from local Ford dealers today, with arrivals estimated in Q4 this year. The RRP is $49,990 plus ORCs.

You Can't Get a New Ford Bronco for Under $40K Anymore

The latest car news, reviews, and features. There are winners and losers in a new wave of Ford Bronco price adjustments. The Bronco Raptor, for example, is now $10,000 less, bringing it back down to where it was for the 2023 model year. On the other end of the spectrum is the two-door Bronco Base, which went up from $39,890 after destination to $40,990. In turn, the sub-$40,000 Bronco is gone. Entry-level Bronco pricing has flip-flopped in the last two years, first with the removal of the Base trim and then again with its reintroduction in late 2024. It's still around today, though a $1,000 MSRP increase and $100 uptick in destination fees push it above $40,000. That isn't a huge jump, especially compared to others we've seen recently, but crossing that threshold is what makes this noteworthy. And if you're about to compare that to the Bronco's roughly $30,000 starting price at launch, just remember: The world isn't the same as it was in 2020. While the COVID pandemic was still ramping up, there was no telling exactly how it would continue to affect the supply chain and the economy at large. The Bronco Base is also slightly better equipped now with a standard 12-inch digital gauge cluster and additional sound deadening. For the newly adjusted starting price of $40,990, you get a Bronco with the 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbo-four, a seven-speed manual transmission, and a 4.46 rear axle ratio. You can spec the 10-speed automatic for $1,795. There are plenty of off-road upgrades available on the Base, though effectively all of them are locked behind the $8,460 Sasquatch package. That adds a comprehensive list of improvements, from front and rear locking differentials to 35-inch tires, taller suspension, position-sensitive Bilstein shocks, a 4.70 final drive, and a more advanced 4×4 system. Meanwhile, the Bronco Raptor's new $81,990 base price narrows the gap to the core Bronco lineup. A Ford spokesperson told The Drive that this was the main motivator for the adjustment: 'With the new two-door-only Bronco Stroppe replacing the two- and four-door Wildtrak model as the top off-road package in the base Bronco lineup, we are adjusting the price of the Bronco Raptor to provide customers who prefer a four-door with another high-performance vehicle option. The pricing applies to 2025 model year Bronco Raptor customer orders and dealer inventory.' With the Wildtrak trim gone, the highest-performance four-door Bronco not named Raptor is the $53,075 Badlands. The two-door, V6-only Stroppe Edition starts at $77,630—about $4,400 less than the Raptor. Got a tip or question for the author? Contact them directly: caleb@

2026 Ford Mustang Review, Pricing, and Specs

Overview While hybrid and electric people-movers are all the rage these days, the Mustang proves that American muscle is alive and well—in Ford's stable, at least. America's favorite pony continues to deliver on its 40-plus-year reputation as an affordable sports car in either fastback or convertible form. A 315-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder offers a more contemporary approach to tire-roasting, but a 480-hp 5.0-liter V-8 is still available for eight-cylinder loyalists who can't live without a baritone soundtrack. Both EcoBoost and GT models are potent enough steeds, but the 500-hp Dark Horse is the way to go if performance is a top priority. Regardless, the Mustang's tasteful blend of retro and modern touches is the perfect example of advancements not spoiling a timeless recipe. What's New for 2026? A new FX appearance package is now available on GT Premium models, paying homage to one of the Mustang's most iconic eras. The package celebrates the third-generation Fox-body 'stang, complete with callback exterior styling accents and a retro cabin redesign. A pair of new wheel designs are on offer as part of the kit; Performance-Package-equipped models get rad Oxford White wheels reminiscent of the fan-like shoes found on the old Mustang Cobra, while the remaining models get a revised version of the Mustang's existing 19-inch split-five-spoke wheels, also painted in white. The Oxford White theme continues with the badging, grille nostrils, and optional white-out taillights on Performance Package variants. Inside, the cabin features plaid perforated leather seat inserts, silver and blue contrast stitching, and carbon fiber trim from the Dark Horse. Independent of the FX package, a new aqua-ish Adriatic Blue Metallic paint option is available on all Mustang models, and the Orange Fury hue also returns after being discontinued in 2019. Ford says that the order books for the 2026 Mustang will open in late June. Pricing and Which One to Buy The price of the 2026 Ford Mustang is expected to start around $34,000 and go up to $70,000 depending on the trim and options. EcoBoost $34,000 (est) EcoBoost Premium $40,000 (est) EcoBoost Convertible $42,000 (est) EcoBoost Premium Convertible $45,000 (est) GT $49,000 (est) GT Premium $53,000 (est) GT Premium Convertible $58,000 (est) Dark Horse $66,000 (est) Dark Horse Premium Coupe $70,000 (est) 0 $25k $50k $75k $100k $125k The turbocharged four-cylinder EcoBoost has nothing to be ashamed of performance-wise, but we're still at a point in time where a V-8 exists, and we recommend taking advantage of it— particularly with the six-speed manual in the GT coupe. Sure, it's $10k and change more than the four, but as it's said, buy experiences, not things; with the Mustang GT you get both. You can also add a GT Performance package for roughly $5000 extra. That gives you 19-inch wheels, big Brembo calipers, a 3.73-geared Torsen differential, as well as some sweet appearance bits. Engine, Transmission, and Performance The Mustang's base powertrain is a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost engine rated at 315 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque mated exclusively with a 10-speed automatic transmission. It's a solid-performing setup, but the 5.0-liter V-8 is the heart of the Mustang. Rated for 480 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque, it can send power through either the ten-speed automatic or, preferably, a six-speed manual. Ford says an optional performance exhaust increases output to 486 horsepower and 418 pound-feet. The Mustang Dark Horse is a track-focused step up from the GT that uses a 500-hp version of the 5.0-liter V-8. Essentially an evolution of the beloved Mach 1 of the previous generation, it has adaptive dampers and 19-inch Pirelli P Zero PZ4s, but gummy Pirelli Trofeo RS track-worthy tires are available via an optional handling package. Ford has improved the ride and handling balance with every generation, and the latest Mustang shows improvements across the board, including better steering feel and feedback. The Dark Horse's standard adaptive dampers go a long way to tame the brutality that is often part and parcel of performance vehicles wearing track-focused rubber. 0–60-MPH Times At our test track, a Mustang GT with the performance exhaust system ripped to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds; the EcoBoost wasn't too far behind, hitting 60 mph in 4.5 seconds. At 4.1 seconds, the Dark Horse only shaved one second off the GT's time, but it went on to cross the quarter-mile marker in 12.5 seconds at 115 mph. The Dark Horse did shine during our recent 0-to-150-to-0 speed test with a time of 29.7 seconds, beating a Toyota Supra 3.0. View Photos Ford Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG The EPA hasn't released fuel economy information for the 2026 Mustang yet, but last year's four-cylinder model was good for up to 22 mpg city and 33 mpg highway. With the V-8, those estimates fell to 16 mpg city and 24 highway. On our 75-mph highway fuel economy route, a GT model with a six-speed manual returned 24 mpg; the Ecoboost model with the automatic transmission delivered 32 mpg. We'll update this section with 2026 EPA fuel economy estimates when they become available. For more information about the Mustang's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website. Interior, Comfort, and Cargo The Mustang's interior design is a mix of new and retro. We found the seats to be plenty supportive, and the standard 12.4-inch instrument cluster is a massive leap ahead of the previous car's. The configurable display can be customized to fit the needs of most red, white, and blue patriots, with selectable colors, gauges, and even a 'calm' screen that reveals only the most necessary details. If you're feeling nostalgic, the cluster can be configured to look similar to the 1987 Mustang's analog gauges—and a second analog throwback screen that takes its looks from the 1967 'Stang is available as an over-the-air update for all seventh-gen models. Ambient lighting and a driver's display adapt to whichever drive mode you've selected. Base Mustangs come with cloth seats and available micro-suede vinyl inserts, while the Premium level adds stitched bits and pieces from door trim to dashboard. Opting for the FX package on GT Premium models injects some extra retro flair, with plaid seat inserts and silver-and-blue contrast stitching. Ford has also introduced a Remote Rev function that allows the car's engine to blast up the RPMs with a simple click from the key fob while you admire the sounds from outside the car. View Photos Ford Infotainment and Connectivity An available 13.2-inch infotainment screen using Ford's Sync 4 software flows from the gauge cluster toward the center of the car behind a curved glass panel. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard on this system, and an optional wireless smartphone charger helps drivers reduce the clutter of charging cables. Amazon Alexa and Ford Streaming allow voice commands to replace knob-turning or button presses, and every Mustang comes with Ford Power-Up software capability, allowing for over-the-air updates for later software and vehicle function improvements. Safety and Driver-Assistance Features The Mustang is available with an impressive suite of driver-assistance technology named Ford Co-Pilot360. For more information about the Mustang's crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. Key safety features include: Standard adaptive cruise control Standard lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist Available active pothole mitigation (included with Performance Pack) Warranty and Maintenance Coverage The Mustang has a solid but average warranty. However, unlike Chevy, Ford doesn't provide a complimentary scheduled maintenance visit. Territory range expands in SA with Ford's new Dark Edition

Ford has expanded its Territory SUV range with a new Dark Edition, offering a more aggressive look and minor interior updates. Here's what's new… Looking for a new or used Ford? Find it here with CARmag! Positioned above the current Titanium trim, the Dark Edition doesn't change anything mechanically. It still features the 1.8l turbocharged EcoBoost engine, producing 138kW and 318N.m, which is sent to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The four drive modes (Eco, Normal, Sport and Mountain) carry over unchanged. The visual differences are where this edition aims to stand out. Black finishes replace most of the standard chrome and silver trim, including the grille, mirror caps, roof rails and skid plates. The 19-inch wheels are painted black, and there's a dark 'Territory' badge at the rear. Paint options include white, grey, black and red. Inside, the cabin gets a charcoal headliner, black dashboard and door inserts, and black leather upholstery with contrasting orange stitching. Two 12.3-inch displays handle the instrument cluster and infotainment, while wireless phone charging, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto are standard. USB ports are scattered throughout the cabin. Related: Living With It – Ford Territory 1.8T Trend AT [Wrap Up] Official pricing: Territory Dark Edition 1.8L EcoBoost 7AT – R733 000 A key addition is a 360-degree camera, which joins an already long list of driver assistance systems. These include adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, blind spot monitoring, lane-keep assist and automatic emergency braking. Six airbags are standard, and Ford continues to offer its usual mix of warranty and service plans, with optional extensions. The Dark Edition doesn't transform the Territory, but it gives buyers a slightly more distinctive option in a crowded compact SUV market without pushing the price too far up. It will likely appeal to those wanting something more eye-catching without stepping outside the familiar Territory package. Click here and browse thousands of new and used vehicles here with CARmag!
