Nedim Bajrami's Rangers woe a world away from Albania hero status as Euros record breaker honoured with special mural

The winger's heroics at last summer's European Championships have seen him be immortalised back home Nedim Bajrami's debut season at Rangers may not have gone to plan - but the Albanian international has now been immortalised with a huge mural design back in his hometown. Gers snapped up the 26-year-old in a £3.5million deal from Italian side Sassuolo last summer after he had caught the eye at the European Championships in Germany. ‌ Bajrami wrote himself into the history books when he netted after just 26 seconds in an eventual 2-1 loss to Italy, becoming the fastest ever goal scorer in the EUROS since they were first held in 1958. ‌ Bajrami was born in the Swiss capital of Zurich - where he started his professional career with Grasshoppers - but both of parents are ethnic Albanians. The wide man represented Switzerland right up until U21 level before being granted Albanian citizenship in 2021. He has since won 33 caps for his country, scoring six times. And in his father's hometown of Tetovo, the struggling Rangers star has had a massive mural with his likenesses designed in his honour. The mural depicts Bajrami's celebration after opening the scoring against Italy, with the versatile winger holding his hands aloft. The player himself was present to celebrate the unveiling of the mural, where large crowds had gathered to see their hero. ‌ Tetovo's mayor Bilall Kasami took to Instagram to share images of the event, and captioned the post with the following message: "Nedim Bajrami, the son of Tetova and the pride of Albanians, today took his rightful place in the heart of his city—a mural with a heart, and a red and black heart!" While Bajrami will be enjoying his downtime in the off-season, his future at Ibrox under new boss Russell Martin is far from certain. ‌ The big money signing registered just five goals and four assists in 44 appearances in all competitions for Gers last season. He found himself in and out of the team in the final third of the campaign after Barry Ferguson had taken over on an interim basis following Philippe Clement's sacking at the end of February. Bajrami has already been linked with a return to Sassuolo this summer. Last month, Gazzetta dello Sport reported that the newly promoted Serie A team will submit a £2.1million offer to bring the player back to the Mapei Stadium, a significant reduction on the fee they received from the Light Blues for Bajrami last summer.

Cristiano Ronaldo has won his second UEFA Nations League with the Portuguese national team after defeating Spain on penalties. The final score was 2-2 after extra time, and Portugal won 5-3 on penalties. Advertisement Ronaldo played 88 minutes of regular time, but he had to be subbed off before the 90th-minute mark. He felt pain and couldn't continue despite pressing at times, and even scoring Portugal's second goal of the game. Ronaldo and Portugal are enjoying the country's second-ever UEFA Nations League and its third international trophy, but there are concerns about the injury Ronaldo suffered. Ronaldo's words after the game have led some fans to believe that he knows his professional career is nearly over. Ronaldo after UEFA Nations League Win The injury is yet to be known, but Ronaldo mentions that he was willing to sacrifice getting injured in order to help the team win. It turned out great for them as he scored the equalizer. Advertisement Ronaldo mentions that the injury has gotten worse and is focused on the current rather than the future. Cristiano Ronaldo: "The future? I'm thinking short-term. There was an injury, and it got worse and worse. I forced myself, because for the sake of the national team, you have to force yourself." Ronaldo was able to walk after the game and during the celebrations. It all seems fine, but Ronaldo mentioned that the pain he felt was there even before the game started. Cristiano Ronaldo: "I was feeling pain during the warm-up, and it had been ongoing for a while. But for the national team, if I had to break my leg, I would have. This is a title, and I had to play and give my all, I went to my absolute limit and contributed with a goal." At 40 years old, many wonder whether he can be fit enough to continue playing for the national team. His passionate words suggest he will push to continue. Cristiano Ronaldo: "You know how old I am already, obviously I'm closer to the end than I was at the beginning but I have to enjoy every moment. If I don't get seriously injured, I'll keep going." Ronaldo's impact on Portugal Cristiano Ronaldo's impact on the Portugal national team is unquestioned as he helped the country win its third-ever international trophy. Ronaldo has been a part of all three wins, which started in 2016. Portugal has won the 2016 EUROS, the 2019 UEFA Nations League, and now the 2025 UEFA Nations League. Portugal is the only nation to win two Nations Leagues in Europe. Advertisement With this win, Portugal fans are hopeful that glory can be achieved next year in the FIFA World Cup. Ronaldo is expected to continue his career, as many reports suggest he wishes to play in the summer tournament next year. How Portugal defeated Spain Lamine Yamal and Cristiano Ronaldo met on the pitch for the first time, but they were not the best players for their teams. Spain led before halftime with goals from Martin Zubimendi and Mikel Oyarzabal. For Portugal, Nuno Mendes scored in the 26th minute for the equalizer. In the second half, Ronaldo scored another equalizer for Portugal. In the 61st minute, Ronaldo pushes the ball into the net after a great play from Mendes. Advertisement Ronaldo was subbed off the game due to an injury just before the 90th minute. Extra time was needed, but the two sides couldn't score a third. A penalty shootout was needed, where almost every penalty taker was perfect until Alvaro Morata's shot was saved by Diogo Costa. Ruben Neves scored the winning penalty for Portugal to win its second-ever UEFA Nations League. Gangs are recruiting travellers to smuggle the drug into the UK, often via other countries in a bid to avoid detection. Clara was remanded to a prison near the Catalan capital two days after her arrest and has been held there ever since as part of her pre-trial detention. A three-page indictment seen by The Sun states: 'The accused woman was intercepted by the Civil Guard around 9pm on January 20 at Barcelona's El Prat airport after getting off a Qatar Airways flight. 'In two suitcases she had previously checked in, police found 60 vacuum-packed packages containing a green-coloured substance that tested positive for marijuana. The substance weighed 34,074 grams. 'A subsequent analysis by the National Toxicology Institute of a 55 gram sample of the substance confirmed it as cannabis.' Public prosecutors added in the document: 'The drugs were transported by the accused with the intention of selling it to third parties on the black market where its value would have been EUROS 213,991.' No trial date has been set, but the indictment shows public prosecutors are pushing for a four-year prison sentence and huge £750,000 fine on conviction. It is not yet clear how she intends to plead and whether she will try to strike a pre-trial plea bargain deal in the hope of getting more lenient treatment. Under Spanish law, the British model can be held for up to two years in prison before she has to be bailed, but well-placed sources said they expect her to be tried later this year. A Foreign Office spokesperson said: 'We are supporting a British woman detained in Spain and are in contact with the local authorities'. Last week, Spanish police went public with the arrests of a British couple aged 33 and 34 held at Valencia airport after 33 kilos of marijuana was found in their luggage. They claimed they were tourists coming from Thailand. Bella May Culley, 18, sparked a massive international search operation in early May after she was reported missing while she was believed to be holidaying in Thailand. However, it was later revealed that the teen, from Billingham, County Durham, had been arrested 4,000 miles away on drug offences in Georgia, allegedly carrying 30 pounds (14kg) of cannabis into the ex-Soviet nation. And recently, 21-year-old Charlotte Lee May, from Coulsdon, south London, was arrested in the Sri Lankan capital Colombo after police discovered 46 kg of 'Kush' - a synthetic strain of cannabis - in her suitcase. The former flight attendant, facing up to 25 years in prison if convicted, is claiming she had 'no idea' about the drugs worth up to £1.2 million and insisted they must have been planted in her luggage without her knowledge. Yesterday, The Sun revealed how cannabis seizures have soared to record highs at UK airports — as Thai smuggling gangs attempt to dominate the British market in the illegal drug. The amount caught at Heathrow alone last year - 14.7 tons - was almost triple the 5.6 tons snared at all airports during 2023. Nearly 27 tons of cannabis were seized at British airports last year, 400 per cent up on the previous 12 months. Some 750 people were caught by specialist cops, way up on the 134 nicked the year before. Nearly two thirds were flying in from Thailand. A record 430 suspects were arrested at Heathrow, the National Crime Agency said. 4 Brit student Bella May Culley was arrested in Georgia after allegedly carrying drugs into the country from Thailand

And well-placed sources said they were about at the boarding gate of a Ryanair flight to London Stansted when they were taken into custody as new details of the incident began to surface. We can today reveal the EUROS 3,196 (POUNDS 2,685) tab the suspects, a man aged 23 and a woman aged 18, had built up included a bar bill as well as Internet expenditure and extras in the ship's casino. The Costa Toscana, which left Ibiza for Palermo in Sicily without them, docked in Marseille yesterday morning at the end of its seven-day Mediterranean tour. It was not immediately clear today whether the two Brits are still being retained in Ibiza. A spokesman for Costa Cruises, an Italian-owned cruise line whose parent organisation is Carnival Cruise Line, confirmed the arrests but said: 'For privacy reasons, we do not delve into matters concerning individual guests. 'However, any irregularities are promptly reported to the competent authorities, who have the responsibility to intervene directly to take the necessary measures." A spokesman for the National Police in Ibiza, which made the detentions, said last Friday: 'Spanish National Police officers arrested a man aged 23 and a woman aged 18 who are both British as the suspected authors of a crime of fraud for refusing to pay several consumptions during their stay on board a cruiser liner. 'The couple tried to leave the cruise liner in a hurry with their luggage, declining to pay the cost of expenditure linked to their holiday, around 3pm on May 21. "The bill for various items, linked to their room, came to EUROS 3,196 (POUNDS 2,685). Brit woman, 21, rotting in Dubai hellhole jail without a shower for a month after being arrested on drugs charges 'Police called to the scene interviewed crew members who told them the alleged offenders had tried to push their way off the ship in their attempts to abandon the vessel. 'The couple were tracked down in the island airport after detectives launched an operation to find them. 'They were held at 6pm on May 21 as they tried to leave Ibiza.' One well-placed source told the Sun today: 'They were stopped and taken into custody as they tried to board a Ryanair flight to Stansted. 'It was pretty obvious they had decided to bring their holidays to an early end when they cleared their cabin and left the ship with all their luggage. 'They stood out like a sore thumb from all the other holidaymakers who were just getting off the cruise liner for a day trip to Ibiza with small bags.' Another said: 'They were less than 48 hours into their trip when they abandoned the cruise. 'It was only on its second stop when they disappeared 'They missed out on Palermo, Rome and the Italian Riviera." It is not yet known what happened at their court appearance.
