Emily Ratajkowski: Men are 'pleasure and fun'

Emily Ratajkowski thinks men are "pleasure and fun". The Too Much actress - who has son Sylvester, four, with ex-husband Sebastian Bear-McClard - treasures the "community" of people she has around her because guys are no longer "part of [the] core" of who she is. She told the July/ August issue of Britain's ELLE magazine: 'I still like men. I just have zero straight men in my life, unless they're a romantic interest. In the hierarchy of needs, that's at the top of the pyramid, which is nice. "[Men are] pleasure and fun, but not a part of my core. The rest of my life is community with other women and queer people, and being a mom." The 34-year-old actress is relishing being in her 30s. She said: "I'm fascinated with this decade of my life. My mom had me at 39, and I remember she always romanticised her thirties as a time of self-exploration and power as a woman. I'm in the midst of it and really feel that way too." And Emily is excited about taking charge of her own destiny. She said: "'You can't control everything, but you can move towards something to give yourself the life you want, which really excites me, because when I think about 34 to 44, I'm like, 'Oh man, there's so much opportunity.' "I can be so much more intentional than I was in my twenties and there won't be, like, accidents.' " Meanwhile, the Gone Girl star loves being "subversive" by refusing to conform to ideas of "what a mom should look like" and she doesn't care what people think of her clothing because only her son's opinion matters. She said: "I think that [fashion] is actually one of the ways I really enjoy being subversive with motherhood. There's so much around what a mom should look like. "I know what kind of mom I am, and I only deeply care about my son's reaction to that. Anybody else who has opinions about me as a mother because of the way I dress – it's just so inconsequential." Cynthia Nixon Confirms That Each ‘Sex And The City' Storyline Was Based On A True Story

If you've ever wondered why — nay, how — Sex and the City has retained its relevance in the 20 years between the pilot episode's premiere and today, you don't have to look far. Speaking to ELLE UK, Cynthia Nixon (who plays inimitable lawyer Miranda Hobbes), attributes the show's longstanding resonance with the fact that each and every one of its storylines are drawn from real-life events. Yes, every single one. 'Our writers have always based our plot lines on things that have actually happened to them or happened to someone that they directly know, so they can quiz them about it,' Nixon says. 'So these crazy, outrageous things, particularly back in the day [during Sex and the City], that happened to these characters were always rooted in truth, and an audience can smell that a mile away.' Sex and the City, which was based on Candace Bushnell's New York Observer column of the same name, premiered in 1998 and spawned six series, two feature films and a currently-airing lightning rod sequel, And Just Like That. The series has caused contestation among fans of the original series for tarnishing its lasting legacy. Miranda, in particular, was criticised for becoming out-of-touch in the 20 years since audiences last saw her. Nixon claims that she doesn't read reviews of the show, but the viewing figures speak for themselves: when And Just Like That debuted in December 2021, 1.1 million households were reported to have tuned in during the live-plus-three-day viewership window. For the third season's premiere on May 29, that number stood at just 429,000. As for potential seasons of And Just Like That (that have yet to be greenlit by HBO), Nixon is clear that as long as the series' creator Michael Patrick King will keep on writing Miranda's world, she'll be there. 'I'd love a season four and I'd love a season five,' she says. 'I love this world and it's so lovely to be a part of it. I mean, who gets to do this? To play a character for 30 years? It's really, really special.' And Just Like That... season three streams weekly on HBO/NOW TV. ELLE Collective is a new community of fashion, beauty and culture lovers. 'People Bring That Comparison Up A Lot': Seema Patel Isn't Meant To Be A Samantha Jones Copy In 'And Just Like That'

There's a commonly-held belief among members of the Sex and the City fandom that Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker)'s new BFF Seema Patel (Sarita Choudhury) is intended to fill the hole left by Carrie's former BFF Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall). Indeed, devoted fans of the show will admit that And Just Like That, the Sex and the City sequel, has a gaping Samantha-shaped hole in it that it would make sense for producers to want to fill. According to Google Trends, despite Samantha's absence — bar a now-infamous 60-second stint in the sophomore series — searches for the character have surged by 3,950% over the past year alone. It's a comparison that Choudhury, whose character has been a constant throughout all three seasons of And Just Like That, is all too aware of. 'People bring that comparison up a lot,' Choudhury tells ELLE UK. 'But look, when you get a script, you're not thinking "Oh, that reminds me of that person" because they're just lines. So it's more bending things the way that you want them to be.' Samantha garnered a loyal and devoted fanbase throughout her stint in the original series of Sex and the City, and Choudhury, who binge-watched the original series upon landing the part of Seema, does personally identify with the unapologetic nature of the sexually-liberated PR supremo. 'My friends would say that I'm a mixture of Samantha and Carrie,' Choudhury admits. 'But I feel like more of a Carrie because I think a lot about what I want to do, then I'll do it and it'll be entirely the wrong thing; and I feel like Carrie's like that. She's headstrong, she makes mistakes, but she owns up to them. She's unapologetic.' As for potential seasons of And Just Like That (that have yet to be greenlit by HBO), Choudhury admits to not yet knowing. 'We keep bugging the producers,' she says, adding, 'We're like "Is there or isn't there?" We're all coming up with cheeky ways to find out because we have no idea.' And Just Like That... season three streams weekly on HBO/NOW TV. ELLE Collective is a new community of fashion, beauty and culture lovers. 13 Of The Chicest Summer French Tip Nail Designs To Try Right Now

For your next manicure appointment, do consider a summer French tip nail design. They have the refined elegance of a clean French set, yet make for a great starting point to try new colour combinations, additional nail art and ethereal finishes on top. Most of the year's freshest nail trends - from cat-eye and aura nails to pretty shades of pink and baby blue - can be incorporated into your French manicure. Session manicurist Ami Streets agrees. 'For the sunny season, the classic French manicure gets a modern refresh with colourful tips in pastels, citrus brights, or soft gradients,' she tells ELLE UK. 'Wavy, angled, or double lines playfully replace the traditional tip, while iridescent polishes give a luminous glow that catch the summer light beautifully. Meanwhile, matte, or marbled textures can add edge and interest for those that love a nail art effect.' Think of the French manicure as the nail version of the little black dress or jeans and tee combo. It can be kept completely minimal and clean or it can look completely maximalist, depending on what you add to it. The easiest way to start is by switching up the basic white and pink colourway with more playful or unexpected tones. Streets is a fan of pairing peach tips with a subtle pink base (try Kure Bazaar's Lychee with French Rose), sky blue with soft lilac or mint green with butter yellow. If you're easing into nail art, Streets suggests a thin, micro-French tip with chrome or glazed finishes on top. 'This is one of my favourite looks, especially over beautiful sorbet pastel shades like mint green or icy blue,' she says. 'It's all about playful details and personal expression while keeping it subtle, chic and wearable. Dual-tone micro French tips create an extra detail that's understated yet playful. Chrome powder finishes lend an ethereal touch to this sorbet-themed French manicure. Channel the laidback mood of a Mediterranean getaway with this yellow and blue colour palette complete with intricate nail art on the ring fingers. Butter yellow is all the rage right now. Extra touches of watercolour floral makes this design feel extra summery. If you're a summer bride (or simply attending the festivities), this bow-embellished design is exactly what the occasion asked for. Tap into the baby blue manicure trend and add on sprinklings of shimmer and white flowers for a tropical touch. When in doubt, keep it clean with a classic French mani and elevate it for the season with a jelly pink base instead of a matte one. Chrome finishes, off-white tips, and tiny pearls come together for an otherworldly set. If you prefer something with a little edge, try this crocodile-inspired design in a mossy green hue. Korean gels take nail art to the next level. Try this aura-inspired manicure and enjoy the compliments that'll come your way... Committed to dark nails all year round? Incorporating it your French manicure gives it a fresher feel. Sea-themed manicures, complete with waves and starfishes, are big on social media. This magical set will please the maximalists among us. Why not take it up a notch with both a reverse French mani and and French tip? Leave the rest of your nails clean for a grow-up feel.
