Milngavie Week brings quiz, line dancing and more to town

The East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture Trust (EDLCT) has organised a number of activities, which started on June 7, many of which are free to attend. For more details and booking information, go to An inspirational talk on walking and willpower by Geraldine McFaul will be held on June 12 between 6pm and 7pm. Geraldine will share stories and pictures from her six-month, 2,009-mile journey from Glasgow to Rome, as well as explaining what motivated her. There will be a cash collection for Mary's Meals and Dementia UK. Milngavie Library will be hosting its first-ever 'Family Quiz' on June 14, from 2pm to 4pm. Both individuals and teams can take part, with free tea, coffee, juice and biscuits available. Friday June 13, between 5.15pm and 8pm, sees the library host 'Library Line Dancing', where Graham Fox will teach dance moves. This event costs £5 per person, plus a booking fee. Library to host events for Milngavie Week this June

Milngavie Library is hosting a week of free and low-cost events as part of Milngavie Week, which runs from June 7 to 14, promising a packed programme for all ages. The events are organised by the East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture Trust (EDLCT) and are part of the wider Milngavie Week celebrations, co-ordinated by the Milngavie Community Development Trust. "You can enjoy talks, quiz questions, new writing and more. "Check online for more information." Events held for Milngavie Week are available to book online at Milngavie Library's events begin on Saturday, June 7 with an Adult Crafternoon from 10.30am to 1pm, offering a sewing session led by an experienced crafter. A Kids Crafternoon follows from 2pm to 4pm, where children can make their own Milngavie Week lanyard. Both events are free, though booking is required for the adult session. On Monday, June 9, Dr Rhona Morrison will speak from 6pm to 7pm about her journey from forensic psychiatry to becoming a writer and lecturer. Her talk will conclude with a Q&A session. Tuesday, June 10 features a Silent Book Walk starting at 1.15pm. Participants will take a leisurely stroll while listening to chapters of Elton John's memoir "Me," followed by refreshments and conversation. Later that day, the library will host Bedtime Bookbug at 5.30pm, offering songs, rhymes, and stories for children under four. That evening, from 6pm to 7.30pm, the library will host Ladies Taster Tuesday, focusing on women's health and wellbeing with taster sessions and refreshments. On Wednesday, June 11, the Strathkelvin Writers' Group will present an evening of readings and reflections from their latest collection, Sky Painting, from 6.30pm to 8pm. Geraldine McFaul will speak on Thursday, June 12 from 6pm to 7pm about her 2,009-mile walk from Glasgow to Rome in 2023. She will share stories and photos from her journey to raise funds for Mary's Meals and Dementia UK. Survey on leisure and culture in East Dunbartonshire

East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture Trust (EDLCT) is developing a new Culture, Leisure and Sport Strategy. The registered charity is asking people, organisations, and groups to take part in a consultation that will run until June 29. Read more: Martin Lewis issues urgent scam warning after This Morning viewer loses £140,000 EDLCT, which runs a number of services and facilities including Kirkintilloch Leisure Centre, the Leisuredrome in Bishopbriggs, and the Allander Leisure Centre in Bearsden, is asking people to fill in a survey to help shape the strategy. The trust has already developed a vision, mission statement, and priorities for the next five years through consultation with employees. Councillor Jim Gibbons, chair of EDLCT, said: "We are developing a new strategy and want to give as many people as possible the opportunity to be part of the process and to help shape the future of the organisation. The results of the survey will help shape the final strategy, which is expected to be in place by autumn this year after a report is presented to the EDLCT board. Consultation will also take place with key partners and national organisations, such as East Dunbartonshire Council, Museums Galleries Scotland, the Scottish Library and Information Council, and sportscotland.
