The LSU Tigers Are Headed to Omaha
The LSU Tigers Are Headed to Omaha originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The LSU Tigers have done it. They are headed back to Omaha and will have a shot at winning an eighth national championship. On Sunday night, the Tigers knocked off the West Virginia Mountaineers in game two of the Baton Rouge Super Regional to advance to the Men's College World Series. It will be LSU's 20th time in the MCWS, with the Tigers winning it all seven times. Derek Curiel 6, The LSU Tigers take on the West Virginia Mountaineers in game 1 of the 2025 NCAA Div 1 Super Regional Baseball Championship at Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge, Clause / USA Today In 2023, LSU Head Coach Jay Johnson led a superteam to the MCWS championship. In just his second year as head coach, he helped the Tigers win their seventh championship, which saw LSU leapfrog Texas for the second most in NCAA history. That team was loaded with superstars such as Paul Skenes, Dylan Crews and Tommy White. Advertisement 2024 was a much tougher season. The Tigers got off to a very slow start in SEC play and had to battle just to make the NCAA Tournament. They went to Chapel Hill and lost in game seven, just one win away from going to the Super Regional round. 2025 started well, but the Tigers hit a few road bumps. In the middle of the season, after LSU was swept by Auburn, fans started comparing Jay Johnson to Ed Orgeron, saying he could only win with a superteam. Well, it looks like those rumors were dispelled over the past couple weeks. The Tigers have ran through everybody in the Regional and Super Regional, losing just one game to Little Rock, a team which got incredibly hot down the stretch and would've given anybody in the country a tough out. In the Supers, the Tigers handled a West Virginia team that had one of the best seasons in program history pretty easily, winning game one 16-9 and game two 12-5. Advertisement Now it's time for the MCWS, where the Tigers will join Coastal Carolina, Arkansas, Arizona, Oregon State, UCLA, Louisville and the winner of Monday's game between Duke and Murray State. Only three of the top-eight seeds remain. It's never easy to win a baseball championship, but this is one of the "easier" paths in recent history (based on seeding). LSU as a program has been there before, but a lot of these players haven't. It will be a new experience for pretty much everyone on the roster, so managing emotions will be tough. The MCWS begins on Friday, June 13th and will run until at least June 22nd. If a game three is necessary in the finals, it will extend until June 23rd, when a champion will be crowned. Here's when LSU baseball plays its first College World Series game
Here's when LSU baseball plays its first College World Series game After a sweep of West Virginia in the Super Regional, LSU baseball is on its way to the College World Series. On Monday, the CWS released the schedule for the opening games in Omaha. LSU will meet Arkansas at 5:00 p.m. CT on Saturday. The game will be broadcast by ESPN. The Tigers are making their 20th CWS appearance in program history as LSU chases its eighth national title. The last time LSU was in Omaha, LSU won it all with a star-studded roster led by Paul Skenes, Dylan Crews, and Tre Morgan. Facing Arkansas in Game 1 is a tough draw for LSU, but the Razorbacks could be saying the same thing about the Tigers. Per BetMGM, these two squads rank No. 1 and No. 2 on the national championship odds board. The winner should be in a strong position to make a run at the title. LSU and Arkansas already met once this year for a three-game series in Baton Rouge. LSU won two of three, with Arkansas winning Game 3 to prevent the sweep.
