Zendaya And Timothée Chalamet's Kids In 'Dune 3' Casting
A hill I will gladly die on is that Dune: Part Two was the best movie of 2024. And so, whenever I'm feeling a little down, it helps to remember that Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya will be returning for a third Dune film in the not-too-distant future. For context, Denis Villeneuve's first two Dune movies, Dune: Part One and Dune: Part Two, were both based on the events that take place in Frank Herbert's first Dune novel, which came out in 1965. The third and final movie from Denis's Dune trilogy is confirmed to be an adaptation of the second and more controversial book in the series, Dune: Messiah, which picks up 12 years after the events at the end of Dune: Part Two. The film will likely be called Dune: Messiah or Dune: Part Three, but for now, most people are referring to it as Dune 3, so we'll go with that. So far, we don't have a ton of solid information on Dune 3, other than that it's definitely happening and will likely start shooting this summer. It's expected that Timmy and Zendaya will return as Paul Atreides and Chani, along with Florence Pugh, Rebecca Ferguson, Anya Taylor-Joy, Javier Bardem, and Josh Brolin, whose characters all feature in Dune: Messiah. It's also been reported that Robert Pattinson is in talks to play the villain role of Scytale… but we won't get too excited just yet. And now, as Timothée and Zendaya are likely preparing to get their stillsuits back on, there's a new report about two exciting additions to the cast — the young actors who will play Paul and Chani's twin children: Leto II and Ghanima. According to Deadline, Ghanima will be played by Ida Brooke, who you may know from Silo, while Leto II will be portrayed by a newcomer called Nakoa-Wolf Momoa, who, as you may have guessed, happens to be the child of Jason Mamoa and Lisa Bonet. There have been a lot of reactions to the reports, which, as it stands, have not been fully confirmed. However, the main topic of conversation is how damn accurate the casting is?! Like, I'm not sure they could've found two kids who look more like they could be the biological kids of Timothée and Zendaya? Another fun element to all this — and this is your OFFICIAL SPOILER WARNING — is that Nakoa-Wolf will likely get to share the screen with his dad, who has confirmed that he will be making a 'comeback' as Duncan Idaho, his character who died in Dune: Part One. As per Deadline, in the new film from Warner Bros. and Legendary, the pair, Nakoa-Wolf and Brooke, will play Leto II and Ghanima, the twin offspring of Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet) and Ch(Zendaya), born after the events of the original Frank Herbert novel. This project marks Nakoa-Wolf Momoa's big-screen debut. He is expected to join his father, Jason Momoa, who will play a resurrected ghola of Duncan Idaho, according to the outlet. Like Nakoa-Wolf, Brooke is a relative newcomer who has previously appeared only in Apple's sci-fi drama Silo and the film 'The Primrose Railway Children.' According to Deadline, Chalamet and Zendaya are just two of the cast members expected to return for the next Dune film, though a formal announcement on others has yet to be made. Earlier this year, Robert Pattinson reportedly entered talks for a villain role in the threequel. Dune is Legendary's expansive, multi-format sci-fi universe based on the Hugo Award-winning novel series by Frank Herbert, which has so far spawned two hit films: 2021's Dune: Part One and last year's Dune: Part Two, both from filmmaker Denis Villeneuve. The film earned a combined 1.12 billion USD at the global box office and won eight Oscars from 15 nominations, including Best Picture nominations for both, according to Deadline. The universe's most recent entry is the prequel TV series Dune: Prophecy, set 10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides, which premiered on Max in November and has been renewed for a second season. It's expected that Villeneuve's third and final Dune film will adapt Herbert's novel Dune Messiah, set 12 years after the events of Dune, which follows Atreides' struggles with the consequences of his Fremen-led jihad upon his ascension to Emperor Muad'Dib. A release date and official title for the new film haven't yet been disclosed.
