B&Q launches new Waterford store creating 37 jobs

B&Q Waterford opened on Thursday, May 29, at Ardkeen Retail Park, Farronshoneen, Outer Ring Road, Waterford city, (X91 W1WD). The opening times are Monday to Saturday, 8am to 8pm, and Sunday, from 10am to 6pm. The opening of the new store follows B&Q's acquisition of three previous Homebase stores earlier this year, which were to be opened throughout May. The new B&Q Waterford store employs 37 staff, including 16 staff who transferred from Homebase. The 30,000 square foot B&Q store, located at Ardkeen Retail Park, the site of the previous Homebase store, has been remodelled and refreshed with B&Q branding and products. It will offer a wide range of home improvement essentials, along with a dedicated TradePoint counter tailored to meet the needs of local trade professionals. In addition to more than 13,000 essential home improvement products, there will be a dedicated timber cutting service, B&Q's popular Valspar paint mixing service, and a garden centre offering outdoor plants and gardening equipment and one-hour click and collect service. Staff and management celebrated the opening with live music from the Celtic Drummers, while surprises and activities for its first customers included a free plant and gift card, a visit from the Dulux dog, and a ribbon cutting ceremony. The ribbon was cut by Yvonne Hale, who opened the former Homebase store 20 years ago. John Eason, B&Q retail director for Ireland and north UK, attended the opening and said: 'It was another exciting opening in Waterford, the second of three new B&Q stores to open across Ireland. I'm really proud of the efforts of all the teams involved in opening the new store which have been converted to the B&Q brand at a quick pace. 'It's a great opportunity for us to bring our B&Q and TradePoint offer to more of our customers across Ireland. Store manager Gary Roche and his team are looking forward to welcoming customers into the store.'

She confirmed that she used the Dulux paint in the shade Sandstone, as she beamed: 'It brightened the area up massively.' The DIY fan then used some extra slabs she 'already had' to fix her patio area and then 'laid a new smaller patio.' Following this, on a mission to turn the space into a lush oasis in time for summer, Amanda 'added some trellis and then built a pergola '. I hate my new build garden being overlooked so found a 5 METRE privacy fence to block out nosy neighbours for under £30 But that wasn't all, as she also then 'got some turf to fill a small space' in the middle of the garden. Additionally, she 'covered the old fence' with trellis from Wickes and 'added flowers to the border', further bringing colour to the once dull space. 8 8 8 8 To complete the project, Amanda planted lots of flowers into pots and furnished the area with outside seating and a rug which she got from B&Q, as well as cushions, candles, plants, lights and a variety of pretty hanging decorations. Tricyrtis A spectacular plant that gives a real exotic feel to any garden with its orchid-like, spotted flowers giving the impression that this plant should be tender but it is 'as tough as old boots!'. Penstemon I love this plants genus of because most will flower all summer and autumn. They'll grow in sun or semi-shade in a well drained soil and produce a non-stop display of tubular flowers in an array of colours and colour combination to suit all tastes. Luzula sylvatica 'Marginata' With the evergreen leaves edged with yellow it's great asset is that it will grow in sun or shade in any type of soil and is great as groundcover in the hardest spot to fill - dry shade. Eryngium x zabelii 'Big Blue' A stunning, nectar-rich plant that will feed the beneficial insects in your garden. Leave the flowerheads once they have turned brown because they look stunning with winter frost and snow, extending the plant's interest period. Sarcococca hookeriana 'Winter Gem' If you need winter scent then look no further than this compact, evergreen shrub. The scent is stunning and the evergreen leaves create an excellent backdrop for the summer flowers. Cornus sanguinea 'Anny's Winter Orange' A dwarf version of 'Midwinter Fire' the very colourful stems create a stunning winter display, particularly on sunny days. Rosa 'Noisette Carnee' A very well-behaved climbing rose that is perfect for training over an arch, pergola or gazebo. The small, 'noisette' flowers are blush-pink and produce the most amazing clove scent constantly from June to November. Sanguisorba hakusanensis 'Lilac Squirrel' I've never seen a squirrel with a drooping, shaggy lilac tail, but this variety will give your garden an unusual and different look throughout summer. It does need a moisture retentive soil but will grow in sun or semi-shade. A third commented: 'Omg wow!! I would happily sit there all day.' Not only this, but someone else chimed in and beamed: 'Looks amazing.' Meanwhile, others were stunned that Amanda was able to transform her space on such a small budget, as one user gasped: 'It's beautiful but can't be on budget... I swear.'

She then added: 'If you're going to make one update to your hallway for maximum impact then let it be this! 'This has to be the panelling project that I'm most proud of (mainly because I finally tackled those angles).' Betty claimed that 'preparation is key' when it comes to panelling, as she pre-marked each location to ensure it looked neat once complete. She later revealed that she got the dado rails as part of a traditional stair panelling kit from Roomix. As well as adding panelling to her hallway, which Betty coated in Dulux Egyptian Cotton paint, she also painted the top of her walls in the shade White Mist from Dulux.
