Gardai issue advice as thousands to descend on Dublin this weekend

More info Gardai have urged people to contact them if they "feel unsafe" in Dublin this weekend as thousands are set to descend on Dublin. They have also urged people to plan their journeys well in advance as roads and public transport are set to be packed in the capital. Outside of regular duties this weekend, gardai will be assisting at: Three sold-out Zach Bryan concerts in the Phoenix Park (Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings) The British and Irish Lions v Argentina game at the Aviva Stadium (Friday evening) Four GAA matches in Croke Park (Saturday/Sunday afternoons) The sold out Mary Wallopers concert in Fairview Park (Friday evening) The sold-out Kingfishr concert in Fairview Park (Saturday evening) Two planned public gatherings in Dublin city centre (Sunday afternoon) Gardai have also advised people to anticipate rolling road closures, which will have a likely effect on public transport such as Luas and Dublin Bus services, during the two planned protests on Sunday afternoon. They say they will have its full traffic management plan in place to keep the disruption to a minimum. Assistant Commissioner for Dublin Paul Cleary said: "This weekend is packed with lots of activity and with the summer weather also looking promising, we look forward to helping to welcome thousands of people into Dublin to make the most of their weekend. We want you to enjoy yourselves if socialising or attending any one of the exciting sporting and music events happening in the city, but to please be mindful of others and how your behaviour may impact their experience. "This summer's public events would not be able to go ahead were it not for the Gardaí that will be working above and beyond this weekend and for the remainder of the summer to keep people safe. Should you feel unsafe or need our assistance in any way over the weekend, please contact us or stop anyone of us on our high-visibility patrols across the city, and in an emergency or immediate danger always dial 999/112." Housing Minister admits rents may go up due to new RPZ plans

More info Housing Minister James Browne has conceded that rents 'may go up in certain cases' due to his new Rent Pressure Zone plans. The Fianna Fail TD also admitted that the housing target of 41,000 in 2025 is 'no longer realistic'. The RPZs restrict the amount a landlord can increase rents by 2% or the rate of inflation, whichever is lower. Nationwide RPZs came into effect from midnight. The President confirmed last night that he had signed the Residential Tenancies (Amendment) Bill 2025 into law following its passage through the Dail and the Seanad this week. More sweeping measures will be introduced next March that will see tenants enter into six-year contracts. However, landlords will be able to increase the rent to market rates either at the end of the six-year period or whenever a tenant leaves voluntarily. Minister Browne conceded that some rents may increase under the plans. He said: 'The only way we can get rents down is to increase supply. That's having a certain system in place for tenants, for landlords and investors. 'The current system is clearly not working. The Housing Agency report made that very clear, we have one of the toughest rent control systems in the world, and it is clearly impacting on supply. Rents may go up in certain cases. As the sun makes a grand appearance, hordes of Irish folk are bound to be pegging out their washing for a speedy and energy-smart drying session. But hold on, there's a hitch for the near 10 million hay fever sufferers around Ireland, as specialists flag a potential snag. According to Sky News, the year 2025 could be a nightmare for those plagued by hay fever, and what with 'very high' pollen counts predicted across most of Ireland this coming weekend by the Met Office, perhaps it's wiser to air out indoors. Nigel Bearman, the domestic cleaning guru and brains behind Daily Poppins, sounds a caution: "Hanging your clothes, bedding or towels outside on high pollen days is a recipe for itchy eyes and a stuffy nose.", reports Galway Beo. He dives into detail about how damp laundry turns into a pollen magnet, soaking up the stuff. As things dry, the pollen gets cosy in the material fibres, ensuring it sneaks into your bed, wardrobe, and even your skin. (Image: Getty Images) The result? Allergies might kick up a fuss, even while you're nestled at home. Laundry bits, especially when we're talking cotton, linen and towels, are pros at snatching pollen from the air. Clotheslines, terraces and yard drying racks all become a playground for pollen on those hot, airy days. Pollen clinging to laundry brought inside can trigger symptoms like itchy eyes, a blocked nose, and sneezing, long after coming into contact with it. "On high pollen days, I always recommend drying your clothes indoors, ideally near a window or with decent airflow. If you're short on space, use a collapsible drying rack in a well-ventilated room," Nigel advises. He acknowledges that it may cause a bit of hassle, but reassures that this small change can greatly improve daily comfort for those suffering from seasonal allergies. Nigel also offers additional tips to keep pollen out of your home: Make it a habit to look up the daily pollen forecast and avoid airing your washing outside when levels are high. Wash your bedding at 60°C regularly to remove allergens that gather overnight. After being outdoors, gently clean your pets as their fur and paws can pick up pollen just like clothing. On-the-run teen arrested in AirBnB after escaping Dublin garda station

More info An on-the-run teen who escaped from a Garda station in north Dublin and is suspected of committing crimes while being at large has been arrested after he was discovered asleep in an AirBnB in the midlands - with a suspected stolen vehicle outside. The 19-year-old thug - who is a relative of paralysed Drogheda feud mob boss Owen Maguire - is due to appear before the district court in the Criminal Courts of Justice this morning. It's alleged he jumped over the wall at Balbriggan Garda Station on Wednesday, April 23 after he was arrested for alleged criminal offences. He had appeared before Balbriggan District Court earlier that day on charges of burglary, unauthorised taking of a vehicle and theft of fuel from a service station. Bail was refused after the prosecuting garda told the judge "no conditions of bail would be acceptable." While gardai were processing the teen's prison warrant at the garda station, it's believed the thug was allowed outside to have a cigarette but managed to jump the wall of the garda station. He continued to be a fugitive until Thursday, June 19 when he was arrested. It's suspected he continued on a crime rampage - until Thursday - when a number armed gardai from Dublin discovered him in an AirBnB in the midlands. A BMW, suspected of being stolen from outside a property in Mayo, was also discovered outside the property. While on the run, the 19-year-old - who is suspected of committing a number of burglaries and car thefts while on the run - taunted gardai by posting videos of members of the force going about their a statement An Garda Siochana said: "Gardaí investigating the escape from Garda custody of a male, aged in his late teens, on 23rd April arrested the male on Thursday, June 19 who is detained at a Garda Station in Dublin. "He has been charged in relation to this incident and is due to appear before Dublin District Court at the Criminal Courts of Justice (Court No. 5) on Friday June 20 at 10.30am. Oasis to open Dublin pop-up store ahead of Croke Park concerts

More info Oasis have announced the launch of a pop-up shop in Dublin ahead of the band's Croke Park gigs. The Oasis Live '25 reunion shows come to Ireland on August 16 and 17. Ahead of the gigs, fans will have the chance to snag a range of Oasis Live '25 clothing and accessories, including exclusive, limited items and special brand collaborations as well as exclusive merchandise and vinyl. The location of the store has not yet been confirmed but fans can register here to attend a special launch evening ahead of the official opening. Those wishing to attend can register their interest here. Registration closes at 8pm this evening. The successful applicants will be chosen at random and notified from Thursday, June 19. There is less than a month to go before the Britpop legends return to the stage for the first time in 16 years. The reunion shows kick off in Cardiff's Principality Stadium on July 4 and 5 before the Manchester group play a series of homecoming shows at Heaton Park and five dates at Wembley. The band will then play two gigs at Murrayfield in Edinburgh before heading to GAA HQ on August 16 and 17. The reunited line-up features Liam and Noel Gallagher alongside new drummer Joey Waronker and returning guitarists Gem Archer and Bonehead with Andy Bell resuming bass duties. The group are currently rehearsing for the tour with Noel telling good pal Bono he is "shocked" at how good the band are sounding. During an appearance on Apple Music 1 with Zane Lowe, Bono said: "They're both funny. I'm still very close with Noel, and he sent a message to me saying he's kind of shocked by how great the band is [sounding at rehearsals]. I think we're going to have a good summer."
