Dubai Wins Bid to Host Global Public Transport Summit 2026

Dubai has been officially selected to host the Global Public Transport Summit in 2026, marking its second time as host following its debut in 2011. The announcement came during this year's summit in Hamburg, Germany, where Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) received the official hosting flag from the International Association of Public Transport (UITP). Led by Director-General Mattar Al Tayer, the RTA delegation showcased Dubai's advancements in sustainable and smart mobility. The summit gathered over 1,900 participants from more than 100 countries and featured 300 speakers across 80 panels, alongside a major transport exhibition. In a significant move, RTA signed four agreements to procure 637 low-emission buses worth AED1.1 billion. Set for delivery in 2025 and 2026, the fleet includes 40 electric buses—marking the UAE's largest and first-of-its-kind order. The new buses, built to Euro 6 standards, feature smart systems, inclusive design, and enhanced safety technologies. Suppliers include Volvo, MAN, Zhongtong Bus, and Anadolu Isuzu, with an MoU signed with China's BYD to trial a high-tech electric bus in Dubai. The initiative supports RTA's goal of a fully electric and hydrogen-powered fleet by 2050. RTA also presented key projects such as the Aerial Taxi, Dubai Metro Blue Line, 3D-printed electric abras, and a biometric fare system, underscoring Dubai's position as a global hub for next-generation mobility. These are the exact locations of the 14 stations on the Dubai Metro Blue Line

In an exciting move for public transportation in Dubai, construction for the Dubai Metro Blue Line expansion is underway, and scheduled for completion in 2029. This massive expansion of the existing network was first discussed back in 2006, along with other potential lines and the expansion of the existing Red and Green lines. After much anticipation, the process has begun, and for those wondering about what the network will look like, we have all the details. The line will serve 9 key communities including Dubai International Airport, Mirdif, Al Warqa, International City 1 and 2, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Academic City, Ras Al Khor Industrial Area, Dubai Creek Harbour and Dubai Festival City. The university area covers more than 129 million square feet and is predicted to accommodate more than 50,000 students by 2029. This station will be a major interchange and the first point of first route of the Dubai Metro Blue Line. The station will allow people on the Blue Line to connect directly with the Green Line. Al Rashidiya Another existing interchange station, Centrepoint Station on the Red Line will be where the second route begins. The final station on the Red Line will connect with the Blue Line. A much needed connection to this growing community, the Al Warqa station will be found on the smaller second route of the Dubai Metro Blue Line. Mirdif is also an area in need for direct transport, considering the large residential, suburban population. This station will be located on the longer 21km route. This is where the world's tallest metro station will be. The Emaar Properties Station is set to be an iconic landmark with the 11,000 square metre space designed to handle up to 160,000 passengers, with more than 70,000 expected to use it daily once it is operational. A 1,300 metre-long bridge will be constructed to allow the Metro to cross the Dubai Creek, the first of it's kind. Dubai Festival City will sit along the larger 21km route of the Dubai Metro Blue Line and connect a vital Dubai mall. The Metro service will provide a direct link for the area to key parts in the city, and means that there won't be as much reliance on the abra boat service. Several of these communities on the the Blue Line will now be directly connected to Dubai International Airport. It is being estimated that this journeys the world's busiest international airport and will take just 20 minutes. Dubai Silicon Oasis is a major, growing community as part of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan. On the Blue Line, the station to this area will sit on the 21km route and serve a much needed area with at the moment, virtually no connectivity to Downtown. The stations will be located in International City, another area that is lacking connectivity at the moment. These will include one underground interchange station allowing for greater connectivity across the existing Metro lines. Ras Al Khor will also be served by the larger route on the Blue Line. Found between the Emaar Properties Station and the International City stops, Ras Al Khor will soon have greater connectivity with major areas in Dubai. Dubai Metro Blue Line: Here's where the 14 new stations will be located

The Dubai Metro Blue Line is one of the most highly anticipated projects coming to Dubai. Split into two routes, one spanning 21km and the other across 9km, the Blue Line will connect the north-east of the city with the existing Dubai Metro line and make it much easier and quicker to get around. It is scheduled to be completed by 2029, to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the Dubai Metro, and will eventually reach around one million people. As Dubai continues to evolve and grow its population, new Metro lines and stations are necessary to meet the demand. The new line is expected to decrease traffic congestion by 20 percent once complete and will provide a direct connection to DXB for nine key areas. Dubai Metro Blue Line: Expansions causing rents to hike across 9 areas

The Dubai Metro Blue Line expansion has resulted in rent increases in as many as 9 communities across Dubai, reports are saying. These 9 communities will be connected through the new line and since the announcement in November of 2023, increases of an average 23% are being reported. The expectation is that the numbers will continue to see an increase of another 3o% until the project reaches completion in 2029, climbing much faster than areas not connected by the Metro. According to an article by Khaleej Times, the areas on this list include Academic City, which saw the highest jump for rentals – studio rates rose from the standard Dhs42,000 to a whopping Dhs60,000, a 43% increase. This is followed by Dubai Creek Harbour (30%), Al Warqa and Silicon Oasis (28%), International City 1 and 2 (22%), Ras Al Khor Industrial Area (21%), Mirdif and Dubai Festival City (15%). The science behind it In the past, the arrival of infrastructure that betters the standard of living has affected and continues to affect rental prices. Apartments close to Metro stations are still more expensive to rent as compared to units further away, and a historical assessment of the announcement of the Dubai Metro project back in 2009 shows a similar trajectory. Properties within a 15-minute walk of the Red Line saw price increases more than 25%, even higher than Dubai's average. 'Historically, infrastructure projects of this scale have driven up property demand due to increased convenience, accessibility, and investment appeal,' says Joshua Hughes, an agent for luxury real estate agency Engel & Völkers. If anyone is wondering why this happens, the formula is simple. 'The introduction of new rail infrastructure and improved transportation options will make these communities more attractive to residents and businesses, leading to increased demand for properties,' explains Hughes. 'This heightened demand often results in higher rental rates. This will also impact investors as this will increase the investment value of their properties in this area.' What is the Metro Blue Line? This new expansion will be connecting some key areas not yet included in the existing network. The 131km long line will go through nine key districts across Dubai and is set to be completed in September 2029. With the launch of the Blue Line, Dubai International Airport will now be easily accessible to people staying in nine new areas. The new route will also benefit students in Dubai International Academic City, thus reducing the need for buses, taxis, and personal cars. Blue Line to transform Dubai's urban economy, turn infrastructure into ‘wealth generator' - Middle East Business News and Information

Firas Al Msaadi says Metro expansion to have massive real estate effect, shape Dubai's future as global, liveable, and investable city Dubai, UAE, 16th June, 2025: The Dubai Metro Blue Line will transform Dubai's urban economy, as connectivity becomes the new currency of real estate in the city, turning infrastructure into a wealth generator, a leading property expert says. Firas Al Msaadi, CEO of fäm Properties, said the Blue Line expansion will advance Dubai's future as a global, liveable, and investable city, bringing massive implications for real estate. 'This is not just a metro expansion, this is a game-changer for Dubai's urban economy,' says Al Msaadi. 'The moment you cut commute time you raise the productivity of the entire city. 'Transportation is not about movement – it's about time, opportunity, and value creation. With the Blue Line, Dubai is not only connecting nine key districts, it's connecting people to possibilities. 'Property values in and around the Blue Line – especially Dubai Creek Harbour, Academic City, and Dubai Silicon Oasis – are bound to see a clear upward shift. Connectivity is the new currency of real estate. 'But the impact will be citywide, even for those who never use the metro. Less traffic, smarter logistics, higher efficiency – that's how infrastructure becomes a wealth generator. Construction on the megaproject began last week with the laying of the foundation stone for the first station at Dubai Creek Harbour, and Al Msaddi said: 'Once completed, this will be one of the most advanced, modern, and high-impact transportation networks in the world. 'But it's not just about stations – it's about shaping the future of Dubai as a global, liveable, and investable city. The Blue Line is the foundation of a faster, more productive, more connected Dubai, and the implications for real estate are massive.' Metro and other transit projects have had a positive impact on residential properties in many major cities. 'Dubai will be no different,' says Al Msaadi. 'In fact, it may see an even greater impact, because its productivity is impacted by traffic like any global megacity. 'When you reduce commute times, you unlock economic output. People arrive earlier, businesses operate smoother, areas become liveable. You expand the map of investable zones.' Among the consequences he identifies are: More demand for housing in connected districts More investor attention to undervalued areas like Academic City, Dubai Silicon Oasis, and International City Premium uplift in prime projects near metro lines, with Creek Harbour already in motion Higher rental yields for units within walking distance to stations Developers will rethink their masterplans with 'metro-first' logic 'Transportation is the one thing that benefits everyone, even those not using the metro,' says Al Msaadi. 'When others take the train, you drive with less traffic. When a city becomes more fluid, your asset appreciates. 'This is how global capital flows follow infrastructure, and this is exactly the type of move that positions Dubai for long-term competitiveness in global liveability and investment benchmarks.'
