Ajay Devgn: The Unrivaled Franchise King of Bollywood with Multiple Sequels on the Horizon
Ajay Devgn dominates Bollywood with numerous film franchises. He has several successful series like Golmaal, Singham and Drishyam. Sequels like Shaitaan 2 and Golmaal 5 are in development. Devgn's upcoming films include Son of Sardaar 2, De De Pyaar De 2, Drishyam 3 and Dhamaal 4. He balances comedy, action, and thrillers. In an industry where franchises have become the most reliable formula for box office success, one name has consistently emerged as the flagbearer of this trend — Ajay Devgn . Over the past decade, the versatile actor has built an impressive repertoire of successful film series, effortlessly balancing intense thrillers, slapstick comedies, and high-octane action dramas. Now, with a packed lineup of sequels and franchise installments slated for the next few years, Devgn has cemented his position as the undisputed Sequel King of Bollywood. A Legacy of Blockbuster Franchises Ajay Devgn's tryst with franchises began with the cult comedy Golmaal, directed by Rohit Shetty. The 2006 film was a surprise blockbuster, and its success spawned three sequels — Golmaal Returns (2008), Golmaal 3 (2010), and Golmaal Again (2017). Each film built upon its predecessor's popularity, making it Bollywood's most successful comedy franchise. With Golmaal 5 now officially in development, Devgn continues to be the face of this beloved series. Following the roaring success of Golmaal, Devgn struck gold again with the Singham franchise. Starting with Singham in 2011, where he played the righteous and fearless cop Bajirao Singham, the film established a new benchmark for action entertainers. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Buy Brass Idols - Handmade Brass Statues for Home & Gifting Luxeartisanship Buy Now Undo Its sequel, Singham Returns (2014), was an even bigger hit, and now Singham Again, the third installment, is poised to take the franchise to unprecedented heights. Part of Rohit Shetty's cop universe, the film will see Devgn reprise his iconic role alongside Ranveer Singh and Akshay Kumar , making it one of the most awaited films in Indian cinema. His association with thrillers also paid rich dividends with Drishyam. The 2015 Hindi adaptation of the Malayalam film won praise for its gripping narrative and Devgn's restrained performance. The sequel, Drishyam 2, released in 2022, not only lived up to expectations but surpassed them, becoming a massive box office hit. Drishyam 3 is already scheduled for October 2026, promising another layer of suspense and intrigue. Dhamaal, another comic caper series Devgn joined in its third installment, Total Dhamaal (2019), proved to be a family entertainer that clicked with audiences across demographics. The fourth part of the franchise, Dhamaal 4, is now confirmed for an Eid 2026 release, further consolidating Devgn's sequel dominance in Bollywood. Raid, the 2018 crime drama inspired by a real-life IT raid, turned into an unexpected success story. This year's Raid 2 continued the story, taking the franchise forward and becoming one of the highest-grossing Hindi films of 2025. The possibility of extending this series further remains open, given its popularity. Adding a new feather to his franchise cap, Devgn's Shaitaan (2024) was a surprise hit that blended supernatural horror with psychological drama. Starring Jyotika, R. Madhavan, and Janki Bodiwala, the film revolved around a family's harrowing ordeal with black magic. Its remarkable box office performance ensured that talks of a sequel surfaced soon after its release. recently reported that Shaitaan 2 has been formally greenlit and is expected to go on floors in early 2026. Directed once again by Vikas Bahl, with Aamil Keeyan Khan returning as the writer, the sequel will shift its eerie setting to Konkan, a region infamous for its black magic folklore. Interestingly, it won't be a remake of the Gujarati film Vash Level 2, despite rumors. Instead, the film will chart an original narrative, promising to deepen the franchise's chilling premise and scare quotient. This move makes Shaitaan Devgn's latest franchise, marking his sixth active film series — a feat no other Bollywood actor currently matches. An Unparalleled Franchise Slate As things stand, Ajay Devgn's upcoming lineup of sequels is unmatched. Here's a look at what the next two years hold for the actor: Son of Sardaar 2 — releasing July 25, 2025 with Sanjay Dutt , Mrunal Thakur and Mukul Dev. De De Pyaar De 2 — releasing November 14, 2025 with Rakul Preet Singh and R Madhavan. Drishyam 3 — scheduled for October 2, 2026 with Shriya Saran and Tabu. Dhamaal 4 — arriving Eid 2026 with Arshad Warsi , Ritiesh Deshmukh and Jaaved Jaaferi. Shaitaan 2 — aiming for a 2026 production start Golmaal 5 — expected to release in 2027 with Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade and Kunal Kemmu. Add to this an original action-adventure film titled Ranger, directed by Mission Mangal fame Jagan Shakti, and Devgn's slate offers a balanced mix of tried-and-tested franchises and fresh storytelling. As Bollywood increasingly leans on franchises to drive its box office, no star seems better positioned to dominate this space than Ajay Devgn. With over seven franchise films lined up over the next 24 months, he isn't just participating in the sequel race — he's leading it. Devgn's ability to spot potential franchises, nurture them, and ensure consistent audience interest is a masterclass in career strategy in today's franchise-driven industry. His diverse lineup ensures that whether audiences seek action, comedy, thrill, or horror, there's a sequel starring Ajay Devgn coming soon to meet that demand. As Shaitaan 2, Golmaal 5, Drishyam 3, and others roll out in the next two years, one thing is certain: Ajay Devgn isn't just Bollywood's Sequel King — he's its Franchise Emperor in the making.

Drishyam actor Roshan Basheer: Till the release, I didn't know what really happened to Varun Prabhakar
Drishyam 3 announcement sparks fan interest in Varun Prabhakar's return. Roshan Basheer reveals he hasn't been approached for the sequel. He recalls his unexpected casting in the first film and working in Tamil and Telugu remakes. Basheer expresses gratitude for the recognition he gained from the franchise. He looks forward to his upcoming roles in Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu films. With the much-anticipated announcement of Drishyam 3, one question immediately popped into the minds of every Malayali: Will Varun Prabhakar return, perhaps even as a ghost? Only writer-director Jeethu Joseph holds the answer to that. But ever since the sequel was confirmed, social media has been abuzz with memes linking Drishyam to Mohanlal 's recent blockbuster Thudarum, and one name keeps resurfacing—Varun Prabhakar, and the actor behind the character, Roshan Basheer . We spoke to him exclusively to find out if there's any chance of Varun making a comeback in Drishyam 3. 'Honestly, ever since the announcement, I've been getting DMs every single day asking if I'll be part of Drishyam 3. Fans keep tagging me in scripts they've written, imagining Varun returning with major twists. But as of now, I don't think I'll be in the sequel—I haven't been approached. And knowing the makers, I doubt they'd add any gimmicks to the story,' Roshan shared. While speaking about Drishyam, Roshan was swept back into nostalgia as he recounted how he was cast in the film almost overnight. 'It was all such a surprise. Through my father, I got to know about the casting and met Jeethu Joseph. His first reaction was, 'Oh, you're a bit overweight.' I told him I could lose weight for the role, but he surprised me by saying the shoot was starting the very next day. By the time I reached home, I got a call from the production controller saying, 'The cab will come in the morning, be ready to leave for the location in Thodupuzha. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Walgreens Hides This Cheap 87¢ Generic Viagra from Seniors – Here's Why fridayplans Learn More Undo ' The rest, as they say, is history,' he gushed. Although he played one of the lead roles in the film, Roshan admitted that he had no idea about the twists in the story. 'I didn't know anything about the full story,' Roshan said with a laugh. 'All I knew was that my character appears, speaks a bit, and then gets killed. I honestly thought it was just another supporting role. I didn't even know why I was killed! Not just me—even most of the crew weren't aware of the complete plot. The makers were extremely careful about preserving the suspense. They took a lot of risks to keep the story under wraps, and I think it was the first time a Malayalam film had done something like that. ' Sharing some fond memories from the set, Roshan Basheer fondly recalled the unforgettable moment he met Mohanlal. 'Though I didn't have any scenes with Lal sir, he was on set when I arrived. I went up to him, and to my surprise, he told me he remembered me. Even though he had attended the pooja of my debut film Plus Two, and we had shared the screen briefly in Red Wine, I never expected him to actually recall me. It was such a priceless moment,' the actor said with a smile. When asked if he misses being part of the sequel, especially since the story revolves around his character, Roshan responded with grace, saying the film had already given him more than he ever expected. 'There are many actors who, despite doing numerous films, never truly get recognized. I consider myself fortunate to have gained such widespread recognition from just one movie—it's a pure blessing. Not only in Malayalam, but I was also able to establish myself in Tamil and Telugu industries through the same character. Interestingly, before Drishyam 2 released, my Instagram followers were around 100k; shortly after, that number doubled to 200k. Who gets that kind of attention without even appearing in the film? I don't think there's a single Malayali who hasn't watched Drishyam, so they know me too. Everything the movie and the character have given me is truly a bonus,' the actor added. When asked about portraying the same character in both the Tamil and Telugu versions of the film, Roshan revealed that it was much easier to perform in the remakes. 'When I did Drishyam, I didn't know much about the movie or even my character. But when it came to Papanasam and Drushyam, I pretty much understood the story and my role, so it was much easier. Papanasam was directed by Jeethu sir himself, and luckily, he also directed my parts in the Telugu remake, which made things smoother for me. The biggest blessing was getting to witness the three legends of their respective industries working their magic during the shoots. Although I didn't have any scenes alongside Mohanlal sir, Kamal Haasan sir, or Venkatesh sir, I was fortunate to spend quality time with each of them. The most interesting part was that all three of them complimented my eyes, saying they were unique. These memories are something I will cherish forever,' he shared. On the work front, Roshan is eagerly awaiting the release of his Malayalam film Rachel, co-starring Honey Rose . He's also excited about his upcoming Telugu movie, where he'll be stepping into the role of a comedian for the first time. Additionally, audiences can catch him as a college student in the Tamil film All Pass, which features a love triangle storyline.

Drishyam 3: Mohanlal And Jeethu Joseph Likely To Begin Filming In September 2025
Last Updated: Mohanlal and Jeethu Joseph are reportedly set to start filming Drishyam 3 in September 2025. Malayalam cinema's iconic duo—Mohanlal and director Jeethu Joseph—are ready to bring back the suspense and intrigue of the Drishyam universe. According to a new report by Cinema For You, the third installment of the celebrated thriller franchise is likely to begin production in September 2025, much to the excitement of fans across the country. While speculation had long surrounded their return, the report suggests that Drishyam 3 might finally move ahead—possibly at the cost of delaying their much-anticipated but long-stalled project Ram yet again. With dates aligning and mounting pressure from eager fans, the team seems to be prioritizing the next chapter in Georgekutty's chilling tale of deception and survival. An official confirmation is still awaited, but the buzz has already reignited anticipation among viewers who have followed Georgekutty's journey since the very beginning. For the uninitiated, Drishyam (2013) was a game-changer in Indian cinema. Directed by Jeethu Joseph, the original film followed Georgekutty, a simple cable TV operator, whose life spirals into chaos after a shocking incident involving his family. What followed was a masterclass in suspenseful storytelling, as Georgekutty wove a web of lies to protect his loved ones from law enforcement. The film's gripping narrative, moral ambiguity, and powerful performances struck a chord with audiences, making it a blockbuster and a blueprint for remakes across multiple Indian languages. In 2021, the franchise returned with Drishyam 2: The Resumption, picking up seamlessly from where the first left off. Released directly on Amazon Prime Video due to the pandemic, the sequel was lauded for maintaining the franchise's high standards of storytelling, layered drama, and emotional depth. Mohanlal once again proved why he's considered one of India's finest actors, and Jeethu Joseph's direction was praised for its sophistication and restraint. As the Malayalam original prepares to enter its third and possibly final phase, interestingly, its Bollywood counterpart is also revving up for its next chapter. Actor Ajay Devgn is reportedly set to reprise his role as Vijay Salgaonkar in Drishyam 3, with Abhishek Pathak returning to direct. That film, according to Pinkvilla, will go on floors in August 2025, creating a fascinating parallel between the two cinematic universes. Meanwhile, Mohanlal continues to be one of the busiest stars in the industry. After headlining Thudarum, a hard-hitting crime drama about a father's quest for justice, he is now gearing up for Hridayapoorvam, a feel-good family film helmed by veteran director Sathyan Anthikad and co-starring Malavika Mohanan. His packed slate also includes big-ticket projects like Vrusshabha and MMMN, further cementing his status as a pan-Indian force to reckon with. With Drishyam 3, Mohanlal and Jeethu Joseph have the potential to close the chapter on one of Indian cinema's most iconic franchises with the same finesse and unpredictability that made it a cultural phenomenon in the first place.
