West Virginia native wins Jeopardy! in landslide victory

(WBOY) — A contestant who is originally from West Virginia won big on Jeopardy Tuesday night. Matt Massie, an attorney originally from South Charleston, West Virginia, took a commanding lead during the episode that aired on June 10 when he wagered a true Daily Double during Double Jeopardy. He answered the question correctly and doubled his $7,200 winnings to $14,400. By the end of the round, he had more than three times the winnings of the contestant in second place. Massie also answered the Final Jeopardy question correctly, bringing his total winnings to $30,000 for the day. You can watch Massie play again on June 11 at 7 p.m. on WBOY-NBC. The last West Virginia native champion, Adriana Harmeyer who won 15 games earlier this year, received some criticism in her home state because she never mentioned the Mountain State during her tenure on the show. Massie, on the other hand, was announced as being originally from West Virginia and even shared an anecdote about West Virginia during the contestant interview segment in the middle of the show. Massie said that while he was in law school, he helped sort out an error with the voting and Senate districts in the small unincorporated community of Malden in Kanawha County, West Virginia. He learned that the community had been sorted into the wrong district for the State Senate and had been voting for the wrong candidates for three election cycles. Massie was able to take the problem to the Kanawha County Commission and get it fixed in 2016, he said on the show. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Ashley Judd Recalls Final Moment With Late Mom Naomi

During Lifetime's two-night docuseries The Judd Family: Truth Be Told, reflected on her final moment with her mom, Naomi Judd. Naomi, born Diana Ellen Judd, died by suicide on April 30, 2022, at the age of 76. Naomi and her eldest daughter, Wynonna Judd, were scheduled to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame as The Judds on April 30, so Ashley traveled to her mother's farmhouse in Leiper's Fork, Tennessee, a couple of days earlier to help her prepare for the honor. 'On the evening of the 28th, [Mom] went to sleep and I went to sleep. When I woke up, I had a text from Mom that just said, 'Please help.' When I got there, Mom was very uncomfortable in her body, pacing around the kitchen and expressing that she didn't want to be here anymore,' Ashley recalled. 'I put my hand on her leg and she patted me and she slowly softened and came back to herself and calmed down and shared a couple of things that I would say are private, between us, about why she chose to continue to live,' the Double Jeopardy actress added. Ashley then explained that her mother went upstairs. 'When I rounded the corner, I entered her bedroom, and I saw that she had harmed herself,' Ashley detailed. 'And then I spent the next whatever it was—half hour—just holding my mother and talking to her, and the first thing I said to her was, 'It's OK, I've seen how much you've been suffering,'' she continued. 'When she died, my most earnest wish was to make sure that she was relieved and absolved of her guilt and shame.' Ashley concluded that she was ultimately grateful she got to be there for Naomi. 'It was like this final consummation of the love in the relationship that we had transformed,' she said. 'What an honor, to be born into this human life, to be chosen by her. I got to hold space, I got to bookend. And I'm just so glad I was there.' Ben Ganger wins a fourth game on Jeopardy, meaning he will play again next week.

Ben Ganger continued his dominant run with a fourth straight win in Friday's episode of Jeopardy. As has been the case in each of Ganger's wins, he was essentially assured of a win going into the Final Jeopardy round by virtue of having more than double the score of his closest competitor, $22,500 to $7,800 in this case. Ganger's winning total Friday of $20,000 left him with a four-day total of $96,415 in winnings. Ganger works as a data analyst at Goshen-based Viewrail, a modern stair and railing provider. He also sings with South Bend Lyric Opera and co-founded the South Bend chapter of Opera on Tap South Bend, which hosts monthly recitals at Iron Hand Wine Bar. South Bend is the only city in the state with both an opera company and Opera on Tap chapter, Ganger proudly told The Tribune on April 30. A win on Monday's episode would give him the five wins needed to automatically qualify him for an entry in the year-end Jeopardy Tournament of Champions, according to the guidelines on For Friday's game, he faced Pomona, CA marketing manager Shweta Balasubramanian and Atlanta attorney Sam Sabulis. Ganger continued his trend of fast starts to the games. He had $3,400 before either of his competitors was on the board at all, and he rolled into the first commercial break with $4,000 to Sabulis' $1,200 and Balasubramanian's negative $1,000. He finished the Jeopardy round with $5,600, ahead of Sabulis' $1,800 and Balasubramanian's negative $200. His lead quickly grew in the Double Jeopardy round, as he ran through the Classical Music category, correctly answering four of the five clues.
