Double Fine's next game, Keeper, turns you into a walking lighthouse

Psychonauts developer Double Fine just announced a new game — and you'll be able to play it soon. Keeper, a game where you play as a walking lighthouse with a seabird as a buddy, is launching on October 17th, 2025 on Xbox and PC. Here's a description from an Xbox Wire post about what you can expect from the game: It has stood alone for countless years, but now the Lighthouse finds companionship in a curious and spirited seabird, who encounters the Lighthouse while seeking refuge from a creeping malevolent presence spreading throughout the isle. The Lighthouse discovers that its bright beam of light is able to affect the flora and fauna, and even seems to ward off the withering tendrils spreading throughout the world around it. Meanwhile the bird proves to be a useful and dextrous ally, able to interact with strange and ancient mechanisms. Together, these two unlikely friends set off together on an epic adventure, an odyssey of mystifying metamorphosis, and a journey that will take them into realms beyond understanding. The art in the trailer is absolutely gorgeous, and it looks like the world will be a beautiful one to explore. The game will be a 'story told without words' and is a 'strange, otherworldly tale,' according to the post. I'm looking forward to it.

We Finally Know When ‘Hollow Knight: Silksong' Is Coming Out, Sort Of

Hollow Knight: Silksong During today's big Xbox Showcase, the Xbox maker revealed a bunch of exciting upcoming video game releases: Double Fine's new adventure title, Keeper; new DLC for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle; Ninja Gaiden 4, a Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4 demo you can play right now; a Persona 4 remake; the Black Ops 7 reveal trailer; a new Xbox handheld console and much more. It was during the Xbox handheld console segment that fans of Hollow Knight got a piece of welcome news. The long-awaited, highly-anticipated follow-up to the game, Silksong, is finally coming out. While we don't have an exact release date yet, we do know that it's launching alongside the ROG Xbox Ally handheld system this year during the 2025 holiday season. Xbox president Sarah Bond said the game will be available to play "at launch and in Game Pass when the Ally releases later this year.' You can see the game on the new Xbox handheld in the trailer below: Silksong was announced way, way, way back in February, 2019. Team Cherry has been teasing players ever since. Hollow Knight is one of the best Metroidvanias ever made, and the wait for its sequel has been grueling – though perhaps less grueling than Grand Theft Auto VI, The Winds Of Winter or the mythical beast known only as Half-Life 3. Silksong features a new playable protagonist, Hornet, and will feature an entirely new kingdom to explore. Hornet, the princess of Hallownest, will be more agile and quick than The Knight, and will face speedier enemies. All told, lots of good news from Xbox today. Certainly there seems to be more in the pipeline for team Green than for PlayStation at the moment.

Psychonauts developer's trippy island adventure Keeper comes out on October 17

It's not Psychonauts 3 , but Keeper already looks to be a visually stunning and highly original gaming experience. Double Fine Productions and the company's art director Lee Petty showed off the official announcement trailer for its latest title during the Xbox Games Showcase at Summer Game Fest 2025. It's not as hype as the news of Persona 4 Revival or The Outer Worlds 2 , but this quirky third-person adventure game looks like a fun departure from your typical AAA title. To view this content, you'll need to update your privacy settings. Please click here and view the "Content and social-media partners" setting to do so. As seen in the trailer, Keeper puts you in control of a magically reassembled lighthouse that's since grown legs and has a strange desire to venture towards the central mountain peak of the island. There's no dialogue for this game, but you won't be alone since an equally adventurous seabird joins you on your mysterious mission. There's little revealed about the storyline, but the trailer shows that the lighthouse's beam of light can interact with the island's wildlife, while your trusty winged companion can take care of anything out of your reach. For diehard fans of the Psychonauts franchise, Keeper 's vibrant and striking visuals might be the only thing to scratch that itch for a while. Double Fine Productions previously confirmed in June 2023 that it's not working on Psychonauts 3, following hints at a potential reveal that summer. Double Fine's Keeper will be available on Xbox Series X / S, Xbox PC, Xbox Cloud, Xbox Game Pass and Steam on October 17.

Double Fine's next game about a lighthouse looks like a Keeper

Double Fine's next title after Psychonauts 2 was revealed at long last at the Xbox Games Showcase. Called Keeper, this adventure game about a walking lighthouse and a bird companion in a dreamlike world will arrive on October 17 for Xbox and PC. Near the end of the Xbox Games Showcase, we got a surprise reveal of what Double Fine has been working on since it released Psychonauts 2 in 2021. Keeper has a distinctly Double Fine look and feel to it, from the designs to the basic premise of a walking lighthouse to the offbeat and bizarre world it inhabits. This will be a game told entirely without dialogue set in a world long after humans have gon extinct. The lighthouse we play as has mysteriously come to life and is drawn towards the center of the island where a mountain stands tall. The main mechanic appears to be directing light towards animals, plants, and objects to interact in various ways. Recommended Videos Traveling with the lighthouse, and helping to solve puzzles, is a bird creature that had been taking shelter there before it started moving. There are also hints of some encroaching evil on the island, which we only get glimpses of. The game's Creative Lead is Lee Patty, who previously worked on Stacking, Headlander, RAD, and many more. For Keeper, however, Lee wanted to create a game less gameplay focused and more atmospheric. The game's inspiration was largely influenced by the 2020 global pandemic and the team asking themselves 'if our time came ot an end, what would be next for life on earth?' Based on the fact that the trailer had no combat and instead highlighted all the unique creatures and landscapes, Keeper should appeal to those who enjoy more introspective games that are open to interpretation. Keeper will be released on October 17, 2025, for Xbox and PC.
