Linkin Park Shares the Rappers They Still Want to Work With
Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda has shouted out Doechii as one of his dream collaborators. In a sit-down with Drink Champs, Linkin Park's Shinoda and Joe Hahn rattled off a few of the biggest hip-hop figures they'd love to make music with. On Shinoda's list was Wu-Tang Clan, Kendrick Lamar, Tyler, the Creator and André 3000. He then added Ms. Lauryn Hill and gave a special shout out to Queen Latifah. 'She's so confident and she's not like selling sex,' Shinoda said around the 1:30 mark, adding, 'She felt like a role model.' After scrolling through his phone to jog his memory of female rappers, he then also added: 'Doja [Cat]'s dope.' If any of these collaborations do happen, it would hardly mark the first time LP teamed up with a hip-hop star. The band most notably linked with Jay-Z for a hit mash-up of 'Numb / Encore' from their joint 2004 Collision Course EP. Linkin Park also later collaborated with Rakim for their 2014 single 'Guilty All the Same' and Pusha T and Stormzy on 2017's 'Good Goodbye.' Hayley Williams recently celebrated Doechii's impact in a heartfelt tribute penned for Them. In the piece, the Paramore singer praised the Swamp Princess in part for her memorable performance at the 2022 BET Awards. 'Watching her on that stage, I had the same feeling I did the first time I saw Missy Elliott on MTV as a kid,' Williams said. 'It was raw, bold, unmistakable talent — the kind that doesn't wait for permission. She came out swinging, and I remember thinking, 'Oh, she's taking it. This is hers.'' Lamar and filmmaker Dave Free also took home the video director of the year award at the event, which was held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles and broadcast on the BET cable channel. "BET has always made sure they're representing the culture right and always put me in the midst of the cycle of what we represent," Lamar said on stage when accepting his award. Host comedian Kevin Hart opened the ceremony by recognizing the BET Awards' 25th anniversary and all of the "history that has been made" on the stage. The ceremony traversed the evolution of Black music, starting with a performance by R&B artist Ashanti that featured a compilation of songs, including her 2002 song "Foolish." Additional performances included other 2000s songs "Ballin'" by Mustard, "1 Thing" by Amerie and "Like You" by Bow Wow. Hart led with jokes while also highlighting the BET Ultimate Icon Award winners of the night, including Kirk Franklin, Mariah Carey, Jamie Foxx and Snoop Dogg. The special award was given to those that have paid homage to music, entertainment, advocacy and community impact. Presented by Stevie Wonder, Foxx accepted his award and reflected on his recovery journey after having a stroke in 2023. "I gotta be honest, when I saw the in memoriam, I was like, 'Man, that could have been me'," he said. Another honor included the best female hip hop artist award for rising rapper Doechii. "Trump is using military forces to stop protest," Doechii said in her acceptance speech, addressing the anti-ICE protests in Los Angeles, where the National Guard and U.S. Marines are being deployed. "I want y'all to consider what kind of government it appears to be, when every time we exercise our democratic rights to protest, the military is deployed against us," she added.--AFP

Hayley Williams Celebrates Doechii's ‘Bold, Unmistakable Talent' in Heartfelt Tribute
Real recognizes real. According to Hayley Williams of Paramore, rising rap star Doechii is as real as it gets. In a touching tribute penned for Them, the 'Ain't It Fun' singer offered plenty of praise for the 'Denial Is a River' rapper, sharing that she's been closely watching her career since her performance at the 2022 BET Awards. 'Watching her on that stage, I had the same feeling I did the first time I saw Missy Elliott on MTV as a kid,' Williams said. 'It was raw, bold, unmistakable talent — the kind that doesn't wait for permission. She came out swinging, and I remember thinking, Oh, she's taking it. This is hers.' Williams pointed out in her tribute that she 'hadn't even caught' the interpolation when she first saw Doechii's performance. The singer went on to praise Doechii's self-assured artistry, and even added that she still aspires to that level of confidence more than 20 years into her career as a performer. 'People sometimes assume because of how I am onstage, that I carry that same confidence. But the truth is, that kind of boldness is something I still have to work to access,' she said. 'With Doechii, though, that energy feels inherent. When I listen to her, I feel it — like it transfers through the speakers. And I think a lot of her listeners feel the same way.' Williams added that the rapper's openness about her sexuality is just another example of how Doechii is doing music stardom on her own terms. 'It's powerful to watch an artist like her speak openly about identity in the public eye,' she said. 'We need that. We need women who are unapologetic about who they are, who they love, what they believe.' Closing her tribute, Williams thanked Doechii for giving performers everywhere — including herself — something to aspire to. 'Watching someone emerge with that kind of confidence, that kind of clarity, is a gift,' she said. 'She reminds me — and probably a lot of people — that moving through the world with certainty doesn't mean you stop learning or growing. It just means you know your worth as you go. And that, to me, is something to look up to.' Doechii is coming off yet another big win, this time at the 2025 BET Awards, where she took home the trophy for best female hip hop artist. During her speech at the ceremony, Doechii called out President Donald Trump activating the National Guard in response to the ongoing Los Angeles protests around ICE raids in the city. 'I want y'all to consider what kind of government it appears to be when every time we exercise our democratic right to protest, the military is deployed against us. What type of government is that?' she asked the crowd. 'People are being swept up and torn from their families, and I feel it's my responsibility as an artist to use this moment to speak up for all oppressed people.' ‘We have to speak up': Hollywood stars react to Trump's military-backed immigration raids
LOS ANGELES, June 12 — As President Donald Trump's military-backed crackdown on immigrants continues in Los Angeles and across the US, celebrities are speaking out against the tactics and what they say are the intolerant views driving them. Some pointed to the gulf between Trump's apocalyptic descriptions of a city in flames and the reality of a vast and diverse metropolis where largely peaceful protests are limited to a small part of downtown. Here's what the glitterati had to say: 'We have to speak up' Many celebrities touched on the disconnect between Trump's claims about arresting dangerous criminals and raids that appear to be targeting day labourers and factory workers. 'When we're told that ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) exists to keep our country safe and remove violent criminals — great,' LA native and reality star Kim Kardashian wrote on social media. 'But when we witness innocent, hardworking people being ripped from their families in inhumane ways, we have to speak up.' The billionaire behind Skims underwear added: 'Growing up in LA, I've seen how deeply immigrants are woven into the fabric of this city. They are our neighbours, friends, classmates, coworkers and family. 'No matter where you fall politically, it's clear that our communities thrive because of the contributions of immigrants.' Singer Doechii echoed that sentiment in her acceptance speech for best female hip hop artist at the BET Awards on Sunday. 'There are ruthless attacks that are creating fear and chaos in our communities in the name of law and order. Trump is using military forces to stop a protest,' the Anxiety singer said. 'We all deserve to live in hope and not fear' 'Not an apocalypse' Late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel gave a blistering 12-minute monologue from his studio in the heart of Hollywood, opening with footage of tourists enjoying the nearby attractions and a movie premiere. 'Not only is it not an apocalypse, they're having a Disney/Pixar movie premiere right now for Elio, a movie about aliens — don't tell Trump, he'll send the Green Berets in, too,' the comedian said. There is something wrong, he said, with innocent people 'being abducted — which is the correct word to use — by agents in masks, hiding their identities, grabbing people off the streets.' 'Un-American' Grammy- and Oscar-winning musician and producer Finneas, famous for collaborations with sister Billie Eilish and for work on the Barbie movie soundtrack, reported being caught up in a heavy-handed police response at a protest. 'Tear-gassed almost immediately at the very peaceful protest downtown — they're inciting this,' the LA native wrote on Instagram. 'Desperate Housewives' star Eva Longoria, called the raids 'un-American.' 'It's just so inhumane, hard to watch, it's hard, it's hard to witness from afar, I can't imagine what it's like to be in Los Angeles right now,' she wrote on Instagram. Longoria added that the protests were a result of 'the lack of due process for law-abiding, tax-paying immigrants who have been a part of our community for a very long time.' — AFP
