Hollyoaks confirms unexpected new love interest for Clare Devine in dark story

Clare Devine (Gemma Bissix) ups the ante in Hollyoaks next week as part of her plan to get Tori (Harriet O'Shea) back in her life – and she uses Dodger Savage (Danny Mac) in order to do so. The legendary schemer, who has done some pretty bad things in her time, stated earlier this week that she had been diagnosed with cancer, claiming the treatment isn't working. In typical Clare fashion, there is no truth to such claims and the development came rather out of the blue, with the villain devising the plan after a trip to the hospital to visit sister Grace Black (Tamara Wall). Upon seeing patients receiving treatment, she formulated a plan, hoping she could use her cancer claims as a way to manipulate herself back into daughter Tori's life. Dodger, who had been hostile towards Clare previously over her role in the exploitation operation, softened once she stated that she had cancer. Sienna Blake (Anna Passey), however, knew full well that Clare was up to no good, urging her brother to proceed with caution where the returnee is concerned. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Clare subsequently asked Dodger for help in shaving her head – and he complied, with a spark seemingly forming between the two. Determined to get Tori back, Clare capitalises on this growing connection next week, with new pictures shared with Metro revealing a first look at the scenes to come. Dodger stumbles upon Clare in a seemingly weakened state and, horrified, he offers to lend a hand. With the undercover cop falling for her lies almost instantly, Clare is delighted and thus she proceeds with the next step of her plan, which entails making him feel very guilty over taking Tori from her given her condition. Mission accomplished. Want to be the first to hear shocking EastEnders spoilers? Who's leaving Coronation Street? The latest gossip from Emmerdale? Afterwards, a heart-to-heart ensues, with Clare stating that she simply believed Alistair (Drew Cain) was having an affair – not that he was a hardened criminal involved in exploitation. The pair grow incredibly close but a phone call interrupts them, scuppering Clare's plot. For now. More Trending Ever the opportunist, the schemer concocts a plan to get Dodger over to the flat later in the week. Dodger apologises for thinking she had a role to play in her late husband's crimes. The chemistry sizzles and Dodger starts to worry that the lines are getting blurred as he comes to realise that he's starting to fall for Clare. Will Clare succeed in getting what she wants? Or will Dodger see through her lies before it's too late? View More » Hollyoaks streams Mondays to Wednesdays from 6am on Channel 4's streaming platform, or catch episodes on TV at 7pm on E4. Shohei Ohtani not happy with pitching return; why the Dodgers are

Shohei Ohtani pitching in a Dodger uniform. Before the national anthem was played, the stadium was filled and the crowd was roaring as Ohtani emerged from the dugout and walked to the bullpen to warm-up for his first start of the season. As he got loose, crowds flooded the left field area just to get a peak of what they'd been eagerly anticipating. From the section that shares a wall with the pen to the top of the reserve level, fans hugged the railing like they're trying to get a high five from a WWE star. All the focus was on how Ohtani would do on the mound. By the end of night, it was the bat that reminded everyone what makes him a unicorn of a baseball player, and the possibilities in 2025. After one inning of work on the mound, Ohtani had two hits and two RBIs as the Dodgers beat the San Diego Padres, 6-3, in what was a major step in the three-time MVP's full-time return to being a two-way star. "Not quite happy with the results overall," Ohtani said through translator Will Ireton. "But I think the biggest takeaway for me is that I feel good enough to be able to make the next outing." In a span of less than 24 hours, the matchup went from the series opener between division rivals and World Series contenders to all attention on Ohtani as a major league pitcher. It was his first time pitching since August 2023 - when he wore a Los Angeles Angels uniform - and first time since his second Tommy John surgery. It was a soft introduction back to the mound for the right-hander. But it was a bumpy road. Ohtani's first pitch was a 97 mph sinker Fernando Tatis Jr. fouled off. But he gave up a bloop single to the leadoff hitter and Luis Arraez hit a rocket in the gap to put runners on the corners with no outs, with the chance to massively spoil Ohtani's night. On the following at-bat, Manny Machado swung out of the zone on a sweeper, resulting in a sacrifice fly to score a run for San Diego. Then two consecutive groundouts got Ohtani out of the inning and limited the damage. He threw 28 pitches - 16 for strikes - and despite a 9.00 ERA, it was a positive outing for the team. "I thought it was great," said manager Dave Roberts. "Obviously gave up a run, but I thought the stuff was really good." It's now the norm for it to be a playoff atmosphere when the Padres and Dodgers meet, but you'd think a trip to the World Series was on the line with the intensity and electricity in the air in the first inning. And Ohtani certainly felt it. In his rehab work, Ohtani was throwing around the 95-96 mph range. In his first game, his fastball averaged 99.1 mph, and he reached 100 mph. The sinker hovered around 97 mph with 18 of his pitches at least 95 mph, and 14 above 98 mph. "I was aiming to sit 95-96 (mph), but the game intensity really allowed me to throw a little harder," Ohtani said. Roberts didn't expect to see triple digits on the radar gun, but he understood the adrenaline allowed Ohtani to turn it up a notch. Still, Roberts hopes he can turn it down a bit so he doesn't overexert himself and undo all the progress. Everyone in the dugout marveled at Ohtani coming off from throwing 28 pitches and going straight to putting on his batting gear, not even stopping for a drink of water. Third baseman Max Muncy admitted it hit differently to see it happen because "that's really hard to do." Ohtani struck out in his first at-bat, but he delivered in the batter's box not long after. He hit an RBI double in the bottom of the third through the left-center field gap to get back the run he gave up, and one inning later, his RBI single extended the lead for Los Angeles. He finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs, a walk and two strikeouts, and Roberts felt good about it, indicating he could still produce at the plate on start days. Granted it was after he pitched one inning and hyped on adrenaline, but it "didn't certainly affect the offensive performance," Roberts said. Shohei Ohtani's pitching plan Now with his first outing complete, Ohtani and Roberts both said the current plan is for him to pitch once a week. It's expected he will continue to start games every six to eight days, Roberts added, and the workload could go up. The Dodgers skipper wasn't going to let him throw more than 30 pitches in his debut, but he could go two innings his next time out, likely against the Washington Nationals on June 22. Still, no plan is set in stone. General manager Brandon Gomes said prior the contest that conversations are happening every day to feel out what is the next step. Ohtani noted since his velocity was higher than normal, he'll have to see how he feels when he wakes up before nailing down his next start. "I want to see first where my body feels and how it reacts," he said. "But the expectation is for me to go once a week, hopefully to be able to go a little longer every time I'm out there." It was only a glimpse, but it was enough for the Dodgers to feel good about where Ohtani is progressing, considering how his debut came together so quickly. Roberts admitted he was "fanboying" seeing it finally happen. With more encouraging nights like this, Ohtani could be headed back to being dominant at the plate and on the mound, a recipe the organization anticipates can lead to another title. "Overall, just a really positive day for us," Roberts said. "We're just kind of excited that we finally got that first one under our belt."

Hollyoaks confirms seriously dark twist as Clare Devine commits her cruelest act

Hollyoaks spoilers follow for Wednesday's (June 18) episode that is now available to view on Channel 4 streaming. The episode in question will air on E4 on at 7pm. Gemma Bissix certainly wasn't kidding when she told me earlier this month that we'd see Clare Devine as we never have done before, with a shock new story kicking off. Legendary Hollyoaks schemer Clare has made quite a splash since returning from the dead, clashing with sister Grace Black (Tamara Wall) and ordering her death, threatening Robbie Roscoe (Charlie Wernham) and making an enemy of Sienna Blake (Anna Passey). It's not even been a month yet since she returned. Getting on the wrong side of that many people is an impressive feat – even for Clare! With adopted daughter Tori (Harriet O'Shea) now back in the care of the Blakes and Sienna refusing to let her visit, Clare was determined to do whatever it takes to win her daughter back. Simply put: Nothing will stand in her way. Following her multiple attempts to kill Grace – who gave Tori back to the Blakes – Clare headed to the hospital during Wednesday's offering of the long-running drama, dressed in black on the day of Alistair Banks' (Drew Cain) funeral. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Donny Clark (Louis Emerick), however, refused to let her see Grace, suspecting that the once-thought-to-be-dead villain was up to no good where her sister was concerned. As Clare waited in the waiting room, she witnessed numerous patients receiving treatment for cancer, which left her with food for thought. Soon afterwards, she pretended to bump into Dodger Savage (Danny Mac) and informed him that she has been diagnosed with cancer – and the chemo isn't working. She produced a single strand of hair which she claimed had fallen out of her head. Sienna couldn't get her head around Clare's diagnosis, believing it to be a ploy to get what she wants. If anyone is equipped to know how Clare's brain is hardwired, it's Sienna, who urged Dodger to see that she was simply lying to get her own way. Dodger wasn't so sure and thus he decided to investigate. Clare, meanwhile, saw an opportunity to make her lie all the more convincing, wearing a headscarf as she picked up a few groceries from Price Slice, which Dodge helped her carry home. Ever the hero. Back at the flat, Clare asked Dodger if he'd help her shave her head, which he ultimately did. A flicker of a spark seemed to develop between the two and Dodger told Clare that he'd ensure she gets time to see Tori given her prognosis. Clare smiled into the mirror, her mission having firmly been accomplished. The question is: will her secret be exposed? More Trending It seems to be a bit of a long-runner, with series star Gemma telling Metro last week: 'There's a big, big storyline coming up where Clare dupes the whole village. 'You'll see Clare in a way you've never seen her before – completely stripped back.' Letters to the Editor: Was it right for Nezza to sing the national anthem in Spanish at Dodger Stadium?

To the editor: I am honored to hear the national anthem in Spanish, just like I was honored to hear a great Black musician, Jimi Hendrix, play his rock-infused version at Woodstock ('Nezza says she sang national anthem in Spanish at Dodger Stadium against team's wishes,' June 15). I'm proud that minorities and immigrants wish to come to America and contribute by working hard and raising good families. Those are certainly more Christian values than those espoused by some U.S. citizens, including the person accused of shooting two Minnesota Democratic lawmakers. My Sicilian and Slovak ancestors entered the U.S. via Ellis Island in the early 1900s. I am proud of Nezza and hope she will sing the national anthem in Spanish again. Jay Ross, West Los Angeles .. To the editor: I hope the Los Angeles Dodgers never invite Nezza back to sing our national anthem. She was told it would be sung in English and then proceeded to openly defy the Dodger organization by singing it in Spanish. The Dodgers were honoring the Hispanic community by having a Latina sing the anthem, and then she brags that she did what she wanted in spite of their instructions. As someone of Mexican descent, I am proud of my grandparents for bringing their children here to have a better life and more opportunities. They became naturalized American citizens and their descendants are grateful. The national anthem should be sung in English as the composer of the words, Francis Scott Key, wrote it. Justin Turner's ‘fake balls' turn into embarrassing Cubs TV segment

Justin Turner was letting it all hang loose on Thursday night. The veteran reserve who plays sparingly for the first-place Cubs was granted 'Fan of the Game' by their home broadcast partner, 'Marquee Sports Network,' but they didn't recognize that there was something a bit more testy going on with the scene. Turner was wearing fake testicles, which hung down and bounced around as he jumped with reactions from star outfielder Seiya Suzuki. Advertisement Justin Turner jumps around to celebrate for the Cubs. X 'It's you, Justin Turner. You are our fan of the game. Wooo,' broadcaster Boog Sciambi said during the ninth inning of the broadcast. The broadcast crew and commentators seemingly didn't know what was unfolding until Sciambi and Jim Deshaies went silent for about 30 seconds as reality hit them. Advertisement During the silence, Pirates second baseman Adam Frazier fouled off a pitch and recorded an out during the at-bat, as reliever Ryan Pressly mowed down Pittsburgh's offense. Barstool Sports personality Dan 'Big Cat' Katz reacted to the wild scene in real time on X. 'Those are fake balls right? No way Marquee showed real balls right? Those have to be fake balls. Either way this team is having fun and I love it!' Katz wrote. He later added, 'OK they're fake. Confirmed. [Cubs President of Business Operations] Crane Kenney should start selling fake balls at Wrigley so he can pay for Kyle Tucker.' Advertisement The Cubs went on to win 3-2, with Pressly getting his first save since April 13 after being relegated from the role. Cubs first baseman Justin Turner (3) smiles during warm ups prior to a game against the Colorado Rockies. Patrick Gorski-Imagn Images Turner has been mostly a cheerleader for the Cubs this season, starting just four games in the month of June. The former Met and Dodger is hitting .213 with one home run, as Michael Busch has claimed most of the starts at first base.
