Youth dies after attack by friends
Ludhiana: After struggling for his life for five days, an 18-year-old youth succumbed to his injuries, caused by his friends after a heated argument. The police have lodged an FIR under charges of culpable homicide, not amounting to murder. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The deceased has been identified as Ravi, an 18-year-old factory worker and a resident of Baba Mukand Singh Nagar, who hailed from Chhapra, Bihar. The Division Number 6 police have booked his friend Karan Chauhan of Baba Mukand Singh Nagar and his aide Ravi Sahni of Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The FIR was lodged on the statement of Rahul Kumar, the brother of the victim. Rahul Kumar said that on June 2, Ravi and his friend got into a serious argument over some issue. The argument turned violent as the accused attacked Ravi with bricks and stones. Ravi received severe head injuries during the attack. While the accused escaped from the spot, the onlookers rushed Ravi to the hospital. However, the doctors referred him to PGI, Chandigarh, due to his critical condition, where Ravi died on June 7. Inspector Kulwant Kaur, SHO at Division Number 6 police station, stated that an FIR under sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), and 3 (5) (criminal act done by multiple persons in furtherance of a common intention) of Bthe NS was lodged against the accused. The section of culpable homicide was used for the FIR because the altercation occurred all of a sudden, without any planning, as per the initial probe. The accused will soon be arrested, she added.

Ludhiana trader abducted, robbed of cash and mobile phone
A 65-year-old cycle parts trader was kidnapped and robbed by two unidentified miscreants in Ludhiana on the pretext of making a payment against an order. The incident took place on May 23 and has since prompted an FIR by the Division Number 6 police. According to the victim, Rajinderpal Singla, a resident of Urban Estate, Dugri, he received a call from an unknown number from a person posing as a trader who placed an order for 43,200 cycle handle parts. The caller asked Singla to collect the payment near Pahwa Hospital on Gill Road. 'When I arrived at the location, the accused, who were in a Maruti Suzuki Swift, made me sit in their car. They thrashed me inside the moving car, snatched ₹3,000 and my mobile phone,' said Singla. The ordeal worsened when the accused demanded more money. 'As I wasn't carrying more cash, they forcibly took both my and my wife's debit cards, made me reveal the PINs, and withdrew ₹40,000 from an ATM,' Singla added. The miscreants later dropped me near Green Land School in Dugri and fled, the victim said. After informing the police, Singla lodged a formal complaint. He also alleged that the accused called him again later, demanding more money and issuing threats. Assistant sub-inspector Onkar Singh, who is investigating the case, said that a case has been registered under Sections 140(2) (kidnapping or abduction), 308(1) (extortion), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). 'Efforts are underway to identify and arrest the culprits,' Singh said.

Ludhiana: Stolen mobile phones worth over ₹12 lakh returned to owners after 2 years
The Ludhiana Rural Police on Tuesday returned 50 stolen and snatched smartphones—collectively valued at over ₹ 12 lakh—to their rightful owners. The devices had been lost to theft and burglary over the past two years (in 2024 and 2025) and many had been circulated through secondary markets before being traced. Some of the recovered phones had been in use by unsuspecting secondary buyers, the SSP said. He urged the public to report lost or stolen mobile phones to the police without delay. (HT File) Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Ankur Gupta said the operation was made possible through the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal, a national database that allows tracking of lost or stolen mobile phones using their unique IMEI numbers. 'Mobile phones today are critical to our privacy and security. Losing one is more than just a financial setback—it's a threat to personal data. There have been cases where stolen phones were used to access and misuse private information. To prevent this, our technical support team was directed to intensify efforts to recover the stolen devices,' said SSP Gupta. Some of the recovered phones had been in use by unsuspecting secondary buyers, the SSP said. He urged the public to report lost or stolen mobile phones to the police without delay. 'Timely reporting can prevent misuse of personal data and increase the chances of recovery,' SSP Gupta added. 3 arrested in ₹ 5,000 robbery; police recover stolen items Three men were arrested by Division Number 6 police seven days after they robbed a man of ₹ 5,000 near Chet Singh Nagar. The police recovered one bike, seven mobile phones, sharp-edged weapons, and ₹ 4,500 in cash from them. The arrested individuals have been identified as Jaswant Singh alias Jass from Lohara Colony, Shimlapuri, and Bablu Mehta and Sahil Kumar from Gurbachan Nagar, Lohara, police said. According to additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP, City 2) Karanveer Singh, the robbery occurred on April 29 when the complainant, Davinder Chaudhary from Daba Road, was returning to his workplace after collecting ₹ 18,000 from a business associate. He kept ₹ 5,000 in his shirt pocket and the remaining amount in the scooter's boot. While near Chet Singh Nagar, Chaudhary was intercepted by three bike-borne miscreants who threatened him with a sharp-edged weapon and stole the cash. The police have registered an FIR under Section 304 (2) of the BNS and initiated an investigation, which led to the arrest of the suspects. ADCP Singh said that the accused have confessed to being involved in seven similar robberies. A probe is on in the case.
