Dhanbad varsity goes virtual to tide over teachers' crunch
1 2 Dhanbad: The Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKY) is holding online classes in the educational institutions affiliated to it in Dhanbad and Bokaro districts to tide over acute shortage of faculty. A total of 13 constituent and 25 affiliated colleges, 21 colleges, two colleges, two medical colleges, two law colleges, and one minority college are affiliated to it. The university has 180 teachers against 599 a sanctioned posts. It recently recruited 150 contractual teachers on a need-basis. BBMKY registrar Dhananjay Singh, said, "The university embraced technology-driven solutions to cater to the total number of students. All the sanctioned 42 posts for associate professors and 21 professors are lying vacant. The last recruitment of assistant professors by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission took place in 2008." The university is working on a Learning Management System (LMS)-based mobile application to support virtual education. "It's the need of the hour to think beyond traditional teaching methods. Student organisations have lauded the initiative but flagged concerns about infrastructure and technical readiness. "We experienced several issues with virtual classes during the Covid period. Smooth functioning of online classes requires robust connectivity and competent technical support," said Hargovind Pathak, the town secretary of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). "If the university ensures proper facilities, students will undoubtedly gain," he added.

HR experts push for new norms for current needs
Lucknow: The Lucknow chapter of the National HRD Network (NHRDN) organised its annual conclave on the theme 'New HR and its Challenges' here on Saturday. Addressing the gathering, director general of NHRDN, Dhananjay Singh said, "India's youth joining the workforce today will face different challenges when they grow old, as by 2050, half the population of India will be 55 plus years. " A key speaker, Sandeep Girotra discussed how the centre of gravity of the Indian economy was shifting from big metros to tier-2 cities, which created the need for tailored management practices. "It is important to improvise as per the needs of the new generation rather than sticking to the principles," he said. Dr Kavita Pathak emphasised that the definition of success also changes with time, while secretary of NHRD, Manisha Seth said periodic deliberations were necessary for growth. Representatives from leading organisations such as NTPC, Tata Motors, TCS, HCL Tech, DCM Shriram, Accenture, Ashok Leyland, Reliance Jio, Bajaj Energy, Hindalco, SBI and Ultratech Cement also attended the event. Research methodology module to develop indigenous perspectives
Pondicherry University has launched a 10-day research methodology course to promote indigenous perspectives to scholarship. The course has been designed by the Centre for Study of Social Inclusion (CSSI), School of Social Sciences and International Studies in collaboration with the Institute for Educational and Development Studies (IEDS) under the Indian Council of Social Science Research, Delhi. Inaugurating the event, Dhananjay Singh, Member Secretary, ICSSR, underscored the role of interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research in addressing social issues and promoting community development. He also spoke about the importance of methodological rigor, social realism, and 'Nyaya philosophy' in research. In his presidential address, P. Prakash Babu, Vice Chancellor of Pondicherry University, emphasised the relevance of the Indian knowledge systems in contemporary research. The Vice-Chancellor also underscored the continued significance of offline (field-based) research, especially in social science disciplines, and its role in building contextually grounded knowledge. Sudhakar Venukapalli, Honorary Professor, IEDS, highlighted the significance of critical and original academic research, highlighting the need to decolonise intellectual frameworks and rediscover the roots of the Indian knowledge system. Tharanikkarasu, Director of Studies, Education, Innovation & Rural Reconstruction, Pondicherry University, in a special address, discussed the differences between Western and Indian approaches to research.
