Department of Municipalities and Transport highlights the role of AI and digitalisation in workplace safety
Abu Dhabi, UAE: The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) is set to host the Occupational Health and Safety Week 2025 from 23 to 27 June. The event will feature a two-day forum exploring the theme Growth in Artificial Intelligence and Digitalisation: A Leap in the Right Direction for Workplace Safety and Health. The two-day forum highlights the Department's commitment to leveraging digital technologies and artificial intelligence to create safe and sustainable work environments. By incorporating advanced tools such as big-data analytics, the Internet of Things (IoT), and augmented and virtual reality, the forum aims to enhance performance efficiency, reduce workplace accidents and injuries, and improve risk prediction and management. Through panel discussions and specialised workshops, the event demonstrates DMT's commitment to building expertise, sharing knowledge, and enhancing partnerships at both local and international levels. These initiatives are aligned with the National Strategy for Occupational Health and Safety, and Abu Dhabi's Occupational Health and Safety System, all designed to minimise risks, improve workplace conditions, and support employee well-being. The dynamic forum will bring together leading local and international experts and provide attendees with opportunities to discover the best global and regional practices from organisations such as the International Institute of Risk Management, the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority, Khalifa University, and the Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility). Panel discussions and contributions from entities such as Abu Dhabi City Municipality, Al Ain City Municipality, and Abu Dhabi Ports will focus on initiatives aimed at optimising workplace standards and promoting employee health and satisfaction. Emphasising the forum's strategic importance, HE Dr Salem Al Kaabi, Director General of Operations Affairs at DMT, said: "The second edition of the Occupational Health and Safety Week underscores our ongoing efforts to creating safer, healthier workplaces by leveraging digitalisation and artificial intelligence as transformative tools to enhance safety standards and improve employee well-being." The event will conclude with a discussion session to review key learnings and deliver recommendations to advance Abu Dhabi's occupational health and safety systems. These efforts aim to strengthen institutional integration while supporting the Emirate's vision for sustainable development and digitally adaptive communities, fostering safer and more resilient workplaces, in line with global best practices. As part of this year's activities, the Department and its affiliates will conduct various awareness campaigns aimed at elevating workplace wellbeing and safety standards across the Emirate.

Abu Dhabi real estate laws Key highlights of the real estate update, include: Unified definition of real estate activities to cover sale, purchase, registration, evaluation, management, and operations — ensuring all sector-related professions are regulated Developers can terminate off-plan sale contracts without court proceedings if buyers default, subject to ADREC approval, allowing for faster and more flexible dispute resolution Owners' Committees will replace Owners' Associations, with advisory and oversight duties only; professional management firms will oversee day-to-day operations of jointly owned properties New framework for common areas and shared facilities to ensure long-term asset sustainability in real estate projects. Abu Dhabi set to create additional ‘Nabdh' community hubs under new DCD–DMT agreement
Abu Dhabi is set to roll out a wider network of 'Nabdh' community hubs under a new agreement between the Department of Community Development (DCD) and the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), as reported by WAM. The initiative aims to enhance community engagement, foster belonging, and improve residents' overall quality of life. The agreement, announced this week, will see more Nabdh hubs established across various regions of the emirate. The DMT will oversee the development and support of these facilities, ensuring that modern standards are met and cater to all segments of society. Purpose-built spaces for connection and inclusion The first of its kind, Nabdh hub in Abu Dhabi was designed as an inclusive space to encourage community interaction, provide access to enriching programmes, and offer support services tailored to the needs of families, youth, and senior citizens. Hamad Al Dhaheri, Undersecretary of the Department of Community Development, highlighted that the agreement aligns with the goals of the Year of Community, by creating more inclusive spaces that nurture cooperation, belonging, and shared experiences among community members. 'This collaboration will expand our reach to a wider audience and enable us to develop sustainable programmes that resonate with community members, ultimately improving their quality of life,' Al Dhaheri said. He stressed the importance of thoughtful design to ensure the hubs serve different age groups effectively from youth empowerment initiatives to wellbeing support for older adults. This year's campaign focused on improving pedestrian safety and promoting responsible micromobility use across the Emirate. Abu Dhabi Mobility 's participation reaffirms its commitment to advancing road safety through global partnerships and local community initiatives. It also reflects the Emirate's broader vision of building a safe, inclusive, and forward-looking transport environment. The programme featured a range of on-ground activities across Abu Dhabi, tailored to engage key community groups. On the Corniche, safety teams engaged with pedestrians, cyclists, and e-scooter users to reinforce responsible road use. In schools, awareness sessions focused on helping students adopt safer behaviours during their daily commute. Additional outreach efforts were held in labour accommodation areas, highlighting the importance of alertness while travelling and using designated crossings. Workers also received protective gear and clear guidance on safe conduct during transport-related tasks. In addition, the awareness campaign was amplified through social media content and printed materials tailored to different audiences, helping to extend the campaign's reach beyond on-ground efforts. These activities were implemented under the umbrella of the Abu Dhabi Joint Traffic Safety Committee, in line with a unified approach to promoting road safety across the emirate.
