Quiver Bioscience Appoints Graham Dempsey, PhD as Chief Executive Officer to Lead Scaling of AI-Driven CNS Platform and Advance Lead Program into the Clinic

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Quiver Bioscience ('Quiver'), a discovery technology and therapeutics company advancing programs for treatment of serious central nervous system (CNS) disorders and chronic pain, announced the appointment of co-founder Graham Dempsey, PhD as Chief Executive Officer. Dr. Dempsey assumes the CEO role after more than a decade of scientific and operational leadership at Quiver, most recently serving as Quiver's Chief Scientific Officer, directing the planning and execution of all scientific, medical, engineering and AI/machine learning activities at the company. This appointment comes as Quiver aims to advance its lead program into the clinic, an antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) targeting Na v 1.7 for the treatment of chronic pain, while scaling its CNS-focused AI-driven drug discovery platform to accelerate a portfolio of therapeutic programs. Paul Roma, Quiver co-founder and interim CEO will transition to Chairman of the Board of Directors. 'We're excited by the potential of our genetic medicine strategy and platform to unlock this important target towards creating a transformative product for patients suffering from chronic neuropathic pain," said Dr. Dempsey Share Dr. Dempsey has successfully led the development and rapid evolution of the company's technology platforms since the company's inception, as well as its first small molecule and antisense oligonucleotide therapeutic programs, resulting in several foundational patents and peer-reviewed publications. He has also led more than a dozen pharma collaborations and the execution of several grants from non-dilutive funding sources such as the NIH SBIR Programs and CNS Foundations. Dr. Dempsey holds a B.A. in biochemistry (Roy and Diana Vagelos Scholar) and biophysics from the University of Pennsylvania and a Ph.D. in biophysics from Harvard Medical School, where he co-invented novel fluorescence-based imaging platforms for investigating biological systems and was part of the team that developed the super-resolution imaging technique called stochastic optical reconstruction microscopy (STORM) that was subsequently commercialized by Nikon Instruments. Dr. Dempsey serves on the Scientific Advisory Board of the Dan Lewis Foundation for Brain Regeneration Research and the editorial board of Molecular Therapy Nucleic Acids. Under Dr. Dempsey's leadership, Quiver will advance their lead asset, an ASO targeting the genetically validated pain target Na v 1.7, a voltage gated sodium channel implicated in several neuropathic pain disorders, through IND and early clinical studies. 'Despite the longstanding promise of Nav1.7 as a target for pain, it has remained elusive for drug developers. We're excited by the potential of our genetic medicine strategy and platform to unlock this important target towards creating a transformative product for patients suffering from chronic neuropathic pain,' said Dr. Dempsey. Quiver's Na v 1.7 ASO is expected to deliver durable relief for chronic pain while overcoming limitations of other Na v -targeted small molecules currently under development and recently approved. Quiver's strong data package demonstrates the efficacy of Na v 1.7 ASOs in rescuing pain phenotypes in in vitro and in vivo models with a favorable CNS tolerability profile. The ASO program is approaching development candidate selection in 2025 and is expected to begin critical IND enabling studies shortly thereafter. Quiver is also scaling their human-centric AI-driven novel CNS drug discovery platform with in silico models of target, efficacy and toxicity prediction, and is further bolstering a pipeline of fast-follower programs in pain, neurodevelopmental disorders, and other diseases of the CNS including the advancement of its UBE3A -targeting ASO for the neurodevelopmental disorder, chromosome 15q duplication syndrome (Dup15q) to IND. The company will be attending the BIO International Convention in Boston this week to showcase their programs and platform. Pastry Chef Talula Dempsey Launches a Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix

Pastry Chef Talula Dempsey Launches a Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix originally appeared on L.A. Mag. Talula Dempsey spent years perfecting her signature chocolate chip cookies, known among friends for the chewy centers and crispy edges. She's had some practice where sweets are concerned: the baking fan earned multiple pastry certifications at Le Cordon Bleu Paris and London, and honed her craft as part of the pastry team at Michelin-starred Gucci Osteria in Beverly after months of development, her company, Talula's Kitchen, has launched a cookie mix that allows others to re-create them at home. The cookies feature the exact ingredients Dempsey uses, including chocolate with a hint of vanilla, in sustainably sourced packaging. Here, she discusses how to make the perfect cookie at home and what she'll be whipping up on Father's Day for her dad, actor Patrick Dempsey. When did you first fall in love with baking? It's always been something I've loved to do. My uncle would make spaghetti and meatballs, and I'd pretend I was the one who made it, setting up a fake restaurant in their house. As I got older, I was always in the kitchen making cupcakes or cake pops with friends. Where do you shop for ingredients? I do a lot of my shopping for ingredients that are fresher at the farmer's market. I love the Brentwood farmers market, as well as the Santa Monica one. I like Erewhon for certain ingredients when I'm looking for something that I know is going to be organic and have different options for different sweeteners. I really like to stay local, just making sure that all the food I get I can guarantee was processed in a sustainable way. Why did you decide to launch the cookie mix? When I was in high school and in college, I would always make chocolate chip cookies for my friends. If we had a beach picnic, I would be the one bringing the cookies. And as much as I love shipping cookies, it's not the same as having a fresh cookie to eat. It's not the quality dessert you would want. [It's not] as if it just came straight out of your oven. But then I would send my friends my recipe, and I realized that the primary reason they're not getting the same results is because the ingredients are different. So I wanted to make a mix with the exact same ingredients I used, same semisweet chocolate and type of sugar. I was like, 'If I start making a mix, they can re-create this and they're not going to have a difficult time and have different flavors.' What makes your cookie mix special? I think it's the ratio of sugar that I put into it. I use both brown and white sugar in my mixture. I think that the best chocolate chip cookie is one that has a chewy center and a crispy exterior, so finding the perfect combination between those two sugars really helped me create a cookie that consistently has that chewy interior, crunchy exterior. How are you planning on celebrating Father's Day this year? My dad's a big breakfast person, so we'll usually do a brunch. We like to go to the farmers market, then cook a spread with all his favorite things — cheesecake, cookies, definitely something sweet. This story was originally reported by L.A. FSAI: 15 enforcement orders for food safety breaches in May

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) served ten closure orders and five prohibition orders on food businesses during May for breaches of food safety legislation. The enforcement orders were issued by environmental health officers in the Health Service Executive (HSE) and by officers of the FSAI. According to the FSAI, some of the reasons for the enforcement orders in May included an unregistered business operating in a shed building where the other half of the shed was a working car workshop. In another case, an identification mark belonging to an approved establishment was unlawfully used on food products that had been produced in an unapproved domestic kitchen. Some of the other reasons for orders being served were inadequate pest control measures; presence of rodent droppings and dead insects in food handling and storage areas and food being stored at incorrect temperatures in a container. There were incidents of inadequate hygiene, cleaning, and sanitation practices, including lack of hot water, hand soap, and lack of handwashing during food preparation; black grime, food debris and grease on floors and a lack of labelling, traceability, and supplier documentation for food products. FSAI Greg Dempsey, FSAI chief executive, warned that every food business must be registered with a competent authority and that all have a legal obligation to ensure the food they sell is safe to eat. 'The high number of enforcement orders in May is disappointing, especially as the type of non-compliances, such as unclean premises and pest infestations, are all preventable where the business has a food safety management system in place and staff are properly trained. 'Additionally, while the vast majority of food businesses comply with their legal requirement to register their business prior to operating, unfortunately, some choose to operate without the knowledge or supervision of the competent authorities, potentially exposing consumers to unsafe or fraudulent food. 'These businesses will be pursued using the legal powers available to us,' he said. Dempsey added that the FSAI website has 'a wealth of free information for any food business to access if they need help'. Enforcement orders There were five closure orders were served under the FSAI Act, 1998 on: Haperty Limited – Trading at Mind Mega Mela 2025 (Closed activity: the activity associated with the handling, preparation and cooking of raw fish and raw poultry for sale to members of the public) (Takeaway), St Margaret's Road, Finglas Dublin 11; Spice Village & Indian Kebab House (Takeaway), Ferry Road, Tarbert, Kerry; Houda Foods (Wholesaler/ Distributor), Unit 5, Ballinlough Business Park, Ballinlough, Roscommon; Heyba's Kitchen, Shed A3 Bremore Farm, Flemington Lane, Bremore, Balbriggan, County Dublin; Stop n Shop Convenience Store, 52-54 Tullow Street, Carlow. Five closure orders were served under the European Union (Official Controls in Relation to Food Legislation) Regulations, 2020 on: Kerala Royal Caters (Service Sector), Unit 27C, Ashbourne Business Centre, Ballybin Road, Ashbourne, Meath; Pizza Corner (Take Away), Main Street Caherconlish, Limerick; Shake Dog (Restaurant/ Café), Unit 23, Showgrounds Shopping Centre, Clonmel, Tipperary; Thindi (Service Sector), 143 Phibsborough Road, Dublin 7; Tasty Food (Takeaway), Unit 2, Cross Avenue, Ballyneety, Limerick. Two prohibition orders were served under the FSAI Act, 1998 on: Haperty Limited (Trading at Mind Mega Mela 2025) (Takeaway), St Margaret's Road, Finglas, Dublin 11; Noor Halal (butcher shop), 10 Church Street, Dundalk, Louth; Three prohibition orders were served under the European Union (Official Controls in Relation to Food Legislation) Regulations, 2020 on: Kerala Royal Caters (service sector), Unit 27C, Ashbourne Business Centre, Ballybin Road, Ashbourne, Meath; Houda Foods (Wholesaler/ Distributor), Unit 5, Ballinlough Business Park, Ballinlough, Roscommon; Domestic Kitchen at East Road, East Wall, Dublin 3.

Fans, celebrities excited for return of BMW Charity Pro-Am to Thornblade

GREER, S.C. (WSPA) – Celebrating 25 years, this year's BMW Charity Pro-Am brings together celebrities, professional golfers and the Upstate community for a good cause and a fun weekend. Thousands of people were out at the Thornblade Club in Greenville County having a great time Friday afternoon. Many said they look forward to this tournament weekend year after year. 'It's just a great tradition for the neighborhood,' said Dale Hunt, a Thornblade resident. 'The club gets behind it and everybody likes it. It's just fun. It's a great little celebration.' 'It's just an immaculate golf course, we love just being in the atmosphere of what this is and I love that it's literally in our backyard, so we don't have to travel very far,' said neighbor Steven DeLisle. One familiar face some may recognize out on the course is Furman University alumnus and former USA soccer player Clint Dempsey, who said he is always thrilled to come back to Greenville. 'I went to college at Furman University,' said Dempsey. 'It's where it gave me a chance to take my game to the next level for soccer and kind of become my own man, getting away from Texas and being on my own. So, anytime I can come here it always feels like a second home.' Dempsey said while he hasn't lost his competitive spirit, he and his partner are just out to have a good time and raise money for local charities. 'Anytime you can have a win-win situation where you're doing good, can be outside enjoying a different sport, and it challenges you to be a better person, ' he said. 'It kind of keeps that competitiveness going in your life once you've retired from another sport. It's always fun and like I said, to give back and help those in need, there's no better feeling than that' Tournament organizers said over the past 25 years, more than $16 million has been donated to local charities, including Mobile Meals of Spartanburg, PAL, Gibbs Center Center, Folds of Honor Palmetto State, Hispanic Alliance, Hope Center for Children, Neighborhood Cancer Connection, and Upstate Warrior Solution.
